FEBRUARY 1, 2015——FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

SCRIPTURE CORNER AUTHORITY FROM GOD According to Moses, the people decided they didn’t want to hear God’s voice directly any more. It was much too frightening. Why couldn’t God send human teachers, prophets, instead? God agreed, but with a warning. The people had better listen to those teachers, because they spoke in God’s name. That arrangement, though, had its own problems, for them and for us. How do I know this teacher is truly from God? And if the teacher is from God, are all parts of the teaching meant for me? We have the Church and scripture to help us with those questions, but still there are always a few loose ends. That is the powerful significance of the sentence in today’s Gospel: “The people were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes.” The people knew that this Jesus was authentic—truly a teacher sent by God. They knew it by hearing Him. ——Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

February 8th – “Love” – The goal of this night is for the teens to understand the definition of true love as it is ex-pressed within the Sacrament of Marriage. The night will encourage them to not settle for a lesser form of affection and challenge them to live the two great commandments of love. February 15th – No Life Night – Mardi Gras Break February 22nd - “Rosetta Stone” – The goal of this night is to re-emphasize our universal vocation – our call to ho-liness. The teens will discover that it is only in living out holiness in our daily lives that we will discover God’s greater and larger plan for us.

THE OLD CROSS When you drive into the parking lot from 4th Street, you will notice that we have erected a cross in the middle of the SRE parking lot. This cross was the cross atop the pre-Katrina church. It was found amidst the rubble after the storm. It was in bad shape. It has been restored and erected in memory of Clay Bishop, thanks to his parents, Pat and

Sandra Bishop. Thank you to Ricky Bishop, owner of Specialty Machine Works, for restoration work; thanks to Henry Schepens for help with installation, and Earl Levens with Brice Electric for use of equipment for installation.
