Dear Parents My ninety one year old mother in law has a fridge magnet which says, "I love housework. I could look at all day!" For the forty years I have known her she has embraced life with great gusto and housework less so. It is perhaps the secret to her long life. I find technology to be like this. I can look at it with great fascination and wonderment but unless it's my IPhone I soon lose interest. Children on the other hand are completely entranced by technology and happily embrace it and use it, especially here at St Thomas' I am pleased to say. There seems to be no age limit to when children start embracing these new technologies. A favourite pastime of mine is to sit with my 15 month old granddaughter, Layla, and watch her play with my IPhone. By observing others she knows how to press buttons and slide screens. She squeals excitedly when trawling through my photos and lights up when an adult rings my phone whilst she is playing with it. Instinctively she puts it to her ear and starts to chat. At the minute the only problem I have with her and my phone is trying to get it off her before she becomes a complete cranky

pants! All of us can relate stories about the problems with technology and it's usage. My favourite is the one about my colleague who ranted in an email to a fellow colleague and then pressed Reply All which immediately sent his rant to everyone including the colleague he was ranting about! An adult choice which resulted in an adult consequence. Unfortunately our children also make choices with technology which results in unintended adult consequences and often involvement. I am referring to cyber safety. Although we use technologies all day professionally it does not necessarily follow that we are aware of the cyber issues which confront our children today. Lord, I am so often overtaken by machines, trapped by technology. My older skills are dying; I telephone instead of writing letters. I put on the CD instead of opening the lid of the piano. I drive to the shops in a sealed box well out of reach of my neighbours and sometimes I feel controlled by what I should be controlling. Help me to find my life again , enhanced and not eroded by these technical aids. Help me to take control , at least in my heart and put them in their place . I do know that it is really a useful , impressive place; a place worthy of products of the highest human ingenuity. But I know too that it is a place where they are subordinate to human needs and human cares. Help me, Lord, to rejoice at the machines and to be hopeful about the future benefits they can bring. May technology serve us Lord, so that we may better serve one another, and you. Amen Jeff Astley

CURRICULUMCURRICULUM

Rope For Heart fits into the National Physical Education Curriculum which is current, relevant and

very important!

Jump Rope For Heart encourages a whole school approach to promote physical activity. Skipping

increases confidence and self- esteem in students.

Jump Rope For Heart is Australia's most popular physical activity and fundraising program for

schools. For over 30 years children around Australia have been learning new skipping skills whilst

fundraising whilst raising valuable funds to help the Heart Foundation fight heart disease, which is

our single biggest killer.

At St Thomas' this year everyone has put

in an AMAZING effort and so far we

have raised online $3,321.20 and cash

~$1,000.00 which totals $4,321.20 !!!! the

highest amount ever raised by St Thomas'

so WELL DONE EVERYONE!!!!!!!! And

10 percent of the total raised will come

back to St Thomas' for some new sporting

equipment.

A very special thanks to Sophie Allet in

Year 4 who raised the most cash of $300

and Lucinda Flavel for raising the highest

amount of $220 online!! All fundraising

will close this FRIDAY 19 th September

( please note no donations will be

accepted after this date) so we can

finalise our program and organise prizes

ready for next term!!

Many thanks again to everyone for your

encouragement and support!!!

RE News

We are nearing the end of another busy term. The children have enjoyed participating in Jump Rope for Heart, Read for Australia, Sports Carnivals and many more exciting activities. When I look around

the community I see the tired faces of staff, students and parents, who know only too well that holidays are just around the corner. My advice in this busy time, prioritise what is important and let

unnecessary trivial things go. It simplifies life and puts things into perspective.

When I lose things I often think of a dear friend of mine who used to say “ Pray to Saint Anthony”. It always seemed to help, maybe because I often calmed down to have a proper look, a girl look rater

than a boy look!

I hope it helps! I know from experience how stressful it can be tiring to find that lost sock in the morning!

Oops, St. Anthony, I Lost Something- A Child's Prayer

Next Term we have the Year 3’s receiving the sacrament of Reconciliation after school on the 10,11, & 12th of November. The

Presentation Sister’s Mass on 18th November, which is being organized

by Year 2. We look forward to these important events on our spiritual calendar.

Wishing you a wonderful week!

Nicky Sullivan APRE

Tony, Tony, turn around. Something's lost and must

be found”

St. Anthony, I know that you are the saint people

pray to when they've lost something. What a job

you've got!

I lose things all the time! My dad says that I'm

“gifted” at losing socks, homework, library books,

my glasses and other stuff

But this time, the thing I lost is really important.

Now, I'm pretty upset and nervous

I've been praying that my search will have a happy

ending. Please help me to be patient, to trust in

God's goodness and your help

Thank you St Anthony

Amen

Inter-school Athletics Carnival The Inter-school team has now been finalised, with the team listed below, as well as

posted on the outside notice board. Permission notes, if not already sent, should be sent

home tonight. The carnival will be held this Monday 22 September and I wish all the

competitors the best of luck. I am still looking for some parents to help on the day as a

field event marshall, 6th place finish judge or timekeeper. If you able to help please

email me on [email protected]

Athletics Training Athletics training will be held at Rowe Park on Wednesday 17 September from 3.30-

4.15pm. We will have to improvise with a running track but will attempt some sprints

and relay changeover practice. Helpers are most welcome (especially for relay practice!).

Thank you to everyone who has helped with Athletics this term. There have been many

parents who have volunteered on many different ways, all of which is very much

appreciated.
