“The water that I give will become a spring of water gushing up to eternal life.”
Jesus alone can quench our spiritual thirst and give us fullness of life. We humans tend to look for fulfillment,
in all the wrong places. Food, drink, power, possessions only satisfy for a while and then we are off trying
something new to quench the thirst that only God can slake. The Israelites, wandering under the hot desert sun,
quickly forgot the wonders that God performed to free them from slavery in Egypt. When we lack direction, are tired and
discouraged, it is easy to feel God is absent. But we need only call on the Lord, as Moses did, and God will hear our cry.
Jesus’ encounter with the Samaritan woman at the well changes her life. The Samaritan woman has one advantage over Jesus;
she has access to well water in a dry land. But the water that Jesus has, continually splashing up from boundless generosity of
God, is a far superior offering. Imagine having a fountain of water rising up within you, keeping your spirit ever refreshed and
alive. Would you not, like this amazing woman, leave your old water jar behind?
St. Thomas More Parish Lenten Mission Facilitated by: Fr. Joseph Jacobson
Mission theme: Why Everyone Needs Mary
It will cover the history of Mary’s involvement and influence in the Church, and reveal the importance of her current presence in today’s Church.
Monday, March 16, 7:00 – 8:30 PM Mass, followed by talk. Tuesday, March 17, 7:00 – 8:30 PM Mass, followed by talk. Wednesday, March 18, 7:00 – 8:00 PM Penitential service/individual confessions.
Fr. Joseph Robert Jacobson (is a former Lutheran
bishop who became a Roman Catholic priest upon his
conversion from Lutheranism. In 1998, he and his wife
Carolyne began the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults at
Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Bashaw in 1999 and
became Roman Catholics at the Easter Vigil in 2000. He was
ordained to the priesthood on February 2, 2007, in the
Archdiocese of Grouard–McLennan in Canada.
Babysitting provided for children 3yrs and older
Fr. Joseph Jacobson gives the homily at all Masses this weekend: “A protestant discovers the real Mary”
Human life is a wondrous and beautiful gift of God. Since
God has created members of the human race in His image
and likeness, every man, woman and child is endowed with
an inalienable dignity. As Pope Benedict taught in his first
homily as our Holy Father, each individual person is willed,
loved, and necessary in the sight of God.
In our country, we are witnesses to the sad truth that human
dignity is not always honoured. The obvious and most tragic
example of this is abortion. It is manifest also in embryonic
stem cell research, which destroys a human embryo, and
most recently, in the promotion of legalized euthanasia and
assisted suicide. These practices call us to speak out clearly
in defence of life.
Archbishop Richard W. Smith
Liturgical Schedule for Lent
Way of the Cross - 7pm followed by Mass, all Fr idays during Lent - March 20, 27, April 3
Holy Thursday Mass: April 9, 7pm
Good Friday: April 10, 9am, 12 Noon, 3pm
Holy Saturday Basket Blessing: April 11, 12 Noon
Easter Vigil: April 11, 9pm
Easter Sunday: April 12, 8am, 10am, 12 Noon, 5pm
One of our traditional Lenten Devotions
is praying the Stations of the Cross. We
suggest Meditations on the Stations of
the Cross by Ronald Thomas. By prayerfully participating in
this meditation, we are able to see clearly, in His passion and
death, the depths of God’ love for mankind and the price He
paid for our salvation. All parishioners are welcome to
access all Formed.org materials.
Pastoral Care Ministry
We are in great need of volunteers for this very special and
important Ministry. We visit 8 senior residences, 1 auxiliary
hospital, 4 homes, and 3 care centres. Volunteers visit these
residences, offering a lay liturgy or prayers and Holy
Communion to the Catholic residents on a weekly basis, as
well as assisting at Mass once a month. We also visit the
Catholic shut-ins in the hospital upon request from their
families. Please consider sharing your time and talents in this
Ministry. It is very rewarding for the volunteers and most
appreciated by those who are unable to get to Mass.
If you are interested, please call the office.
Many thanks to the parishioners who contribute
to the Coffee after Mass Ministry through your
donations of Tim Horton’s and Starbucks coffee.
Your generosity is appreciated!
In the footsteps of a Mother
A Lenten Journey With Mary
Women’s Retreat
Ponder and pray The Seven Sorrows of Mary . Discover the
depth of Mary’s love for her son as she embraces motherhood
at a young age, flees danger, and lives as a refugee. Pray with
her as she loses her teenage son and watches him grow into a
ministry of radical love that would result in betrayal and
crucifixion. How do we hold our suffering and the suffering of
today’s world?
All women are welcome to come join Carol Sebastian &
Linda MacIsaac from Providence Renewal Centre.
Together they will guide us to live this lent through the life
and experience of Mary, Mother of Jesus.

--- Coronavirus Update ---
Although the risk of infection remains low in Alberta, out of
caution Archbishop Smith is requesting that all parishes
implement the following measures on a temporary basis:
At the Sign of Peace, refrain from shaking hands – a
simple bow, nod, or “Peace be with you” to your
neighbour is appropriate.
All holy water fonts are to remain empty.
The Precious Blood is not to be distributed from the
chalice.
Solemnity of St. Joseph,
Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Join us for evening Mass, Thursday, March 19 at 7pm, to celebrate this most special feast day.
“About him Sacred Scripture has little
more to say than that he was a just man-
an expression which indicates how
faithfully he fulfilled his high trust of
protecting and guarding God's greatest
treasures upon earth, Jesus and Mary.”

Contact Your Member of Parliament!
Legislation that would expand access to euthanasia in our
country has been introduced by the federal government.
Among the alarming changes are amendments to expand
euthanasia to those without a terminal illness, including
those with disabilities. Only 30 per cent of Canadians
have access to quality palliative care which would
significantly reduce the number of people wanting to end
their lives. Every life has God-given value and dignity.
Archbishop Richard Smith has written to MPs in the
Archdiocese of Edmonton expressing opposition to the
proposed law, and he is asking each of us to do the same. For
background information, resources, and help contacting your
MP, visit caedm.ca/euthanasia. We continue to pray and
advocate for the vulnerable among us.
Easter Flowers
The church is accepting donations for Easter Mums. If you
wish, the donation can be made in the name of a loved one.
The suggested donation is $20. Please bring your donation to
the parish office or place in the offertory basket, in an enve-
lope, marked “MUM” along with the name of your loved one.
We are also looking for additional volunteers who can help
with decorating the church for Easter. If you are interested in
volunteering your time, please leave your name and contact
information at the office.
Thank-you!
