This Saturday we hold our annual ‘Epiphany Party’. It is a small way to say THANK YOU to all who minister within our parish. If the sacristans were not ge ng things ready before we arrive at Mass would Mass go so smoothly? Could we listen to the Word of God as well as we do if our lectors had not prepared ahead to proclaim God’s Word? Mass would be dull and off key without our musicians and choirs! The church would be filthy if one volunteer didn’t dust, vacuum and straighten up some of the mess le in the pews each week!

On Holy Thursday a er the Washing of the feet ritual, I asked all who visit the sick and bring them Communion and comfort to recommit. I charged the altar servers to do their job diligently for the sake of all who par cipate at Mass. Ushers, greeters, choirs, members of our St. Vincent DePaul Conference, Eucharis c Ministers, all reaffirmed their desire to serve in the parish. Members of the Confirma on Team, Religious Ed classes, Kinderchurch, Igna an Team, and our parish staff all said they would do their best for the parish and the glory and honor of God. And we your priests reaffirmed our commitment to you: the Body of Christ.

What a mess the side path would be without the anonymous team who clear the drains and sweep out the redwood debris. The mo vated group that has painted the side wall, built a retaining wall in the back of the church, changed burnt out light bulbs, and planted a new maple tree a er months of cu ng out an old root and many other ‘chores’ demonstrate the pride we have in our parish. The Pastoral Council that guides my administra on as pastor, members of the school board and CYO board and so many other fellow parishioners that all give of their me, talent and treasure to make St. Theresa’s a welcoming, caring oasis for all who hunger and thirst for spiritual growth and blessings.

I am sure I have forgo en to name many others, but you catch the dri that our parish is only as strong as each of us using our gi s some mes in ways no one else will ever see that benefits many and gives honor to God. My gra tude is hear elt and I am sure the Lord will reward every act of kindness and every effort made to build the Kingdom. To say ‘thank you’ is no part of that reward, but it is a simple acknowledgement that God who blesses us abundantly will bless us even more when we share those gi s with and for each other!

On another note, I have some very complete and more than through reports about what is defec ve with our Event Center. I’m delighted that we can say it is finally paid off, but the bills to fix it are making their way to the diocesan office each week. Right now, the diocese and its lawyers will present what has been determined to be defec ve to the individuals responsible for building and renova ng the gym, mee ng rooms and the former convent building. Over 7 million dollars was spent and the parish deserves to have what it thought it was ge ng when it entrusted the building to very reputable construc on and contrac ng companies. In the next few weeks I plan to reconvene a ‘super group’ that helped facilitate the temporary floor installment and get the center back open a er a year of inac vity. I will show them the 86 page report and the 131 page pricing report for the fix relying on their guidance and good judgment to move forward and to insure that we always maintain a safe place for all the sports and other ac vi es that occur in these buildings.

The officials at the diocese and here in the parish tell me the bargaining to get the building fixed and to the state we thought we were ge ng will take a couple of years. We (St. Theresa’s or myself) are not directly in control of this process. The diocese has the ownership authority and controls what happens, but the super group will help me push when we need to push and hopefully oversee things when the repairs and replacements are made to finally give the parish the building we originally thought we were ge ng eight years ago. I ask your ongoing prayers for this process and am happy to answer individual ques ons if you have them.

I used to teach a ‘parish administra on’ class at the seminary and s ll do for the Jesuit School in Berkeley. I never have to make up stories to illustrate my points, but ask you to pray that we don’t have too many new stories in the future!

Projection Ministry At St. Theresa we use a projection system that aids in our full participation in worship. The songs and some of our prayers are displayed on screens. The projectionist operates a laptop computer and works

with the music director to coordinate the timing of the display. The presentation is already prepared and a printout with detailed instructions is provided. We are looking for volunteers at all Masses. You will serve at the Mass you usually attend, training will be provided. If you would like to become a part of this ministry contact Cathy Brady at [email protected] - 547.2777 , ext. 26.

We are in need of registered parishioner volunteers to assist with coun ng the weekly Sunday collec on.

The gi of your me is appreciated. Teams count once a month following the 9:00 AM

Mass.

St. Theresa School Tuition Assistance Drive

In the upcoming week, St. Theresa School will once again be asking for your support as we embark on our annual Tuition Assistance Drive. Information along with a donation envelope will be arriving at your doorstep in the next few days and we ask that you consider making a small donation to help offset the tuition for those children attending our school, who are unable to pay the entire tuition amount. Catholic schools must remain affordable, and together, we must assist families who sacrifice to give their children a quality Catholic education. The graduates of St. Theresa School are lifelong learners and young people of faith who continue to be of service to our community. Last year and with the generosity of parishioners like you, the Tuition Assistance Appeal generated over $7,000.00. We are asking for your support once again. Donation envelopes will also be available in the vestibule and can either be mailed back to the school, dropped off in the rectory mail slot, parish office or put in the collection basket. Thank you in advance for your participation.

The Eucharist is meant to energize us to take Christ’s presence out into the world. It may be easy to see ourselves in today’s scriptures as the weak sinners, but we should also envision ourselves in the roles of Peter, John, and Luke. In the Eucharist Jesus feeds us and sends us to “preach in his name to all the nations” (Luke 24:47). We are his witnesses.
