FROM THE DESK OF FR. LUKE... DEL ESCRITORIO DEL PADRE LUKE...
The Gospel describes to us an important aspect of the advent
season, which is meant for us to make and prepare a space
for Christ. John the Baptist states, “Prepare the way of the
Lord, make straight his paths.” We are to open our hearts
and minds to the truth of Christ so as to receive His mercy
and follow His way. These four weeks before Christmas
need to be a time of preparation and discernment of “what is
of value” so that we can stand before Christ with out baggage
or burden. Advent is the time of year to engage, develop,
and improve our prayer life and worship, which is where
we meet God. This is how we receive Lord; and then, we
implement that truth into our lives. How? By proclaiming
the gospel with our lives!
In what way does your life proclaim the Gospel of Jesus
Christ? Does it show the value of Christian living through
dedicated time for prayer; charitable effort for the poor,
lonely, and infirmed; encouragement to others to know and
studying the faith?
In what way does your life proclaim a message counter to
the Lord’s commands? When are you distracted from the
way of Christ; how are you stingy or self-centered; or are
you at time timid and inactive for the faith?
Advent can be a hurried time buying gifts, decorating,
working, and cooking. Those things are not bad, but do not
forget to take some time and do some self-reflection so you
can make positive changes for love of God and His glory.

El Evangelio nos describe un aspecto importante de la
temporada de adviento, que está destinado a hacer y preparar
un espacio para Cristo. Juan el Bautista declara: "Preparen el
camino del Señor, enderecen sus caminos". Debemos abrir
nuestros corazones y mentes a la verdad de Cristo para recibir
Su misericordia y seguir Su camino. Estas cuatro semanas
antes de Navidad deben ser un tiempo de preparación y
discernimiento de "lo que es valioso" para que podamos estar
ante Cristo sin equipaje ni carga. El Adviento es la época
del año para participar, desarrollar y mejorar nuestra vida de
oración y adoración, que es donde nos encontramos con Dios.
Así es como recibimos al Señor; y luego, implementamos esa
verdad en nuestras vidas. ¿Cómo? ¡Proclamando el evangelio
con nuestras vidas!
¿De qué manera proclama tu vida el Evangelio de Jesucristo?
¿Muestra el valor de la vida cristiana a través del tiempo
dedicado a la oración; esfuerzo caritativo para los pobres,
solitarios y enfermos; animar a otros a conocer y estudiar la
fe?
¿De qué manera su vida proclama un mensaje contrario a los
mandamientos del Señor? ¿Cuándo estás distraído del camino
de Cristo; cómo eres tacaño o egocéntrico; o eres a veces
tímido e inactivo para la fe?
El Adviento puede ser un tiempo apresurado comprando
regalos, decorando, trabajando y cocinando. Esas cosas no
son malas, pero no olvide tomar un tiempo y reflexionar para
que pueda hacer cambios positivos para el amor de Dios y su
Gloria.

Do you know someone interested in becoming a Catholic? The Rite
of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a spiritual journey to
discover Jesus in our lives. If you are not a Catholic either because
you were never baptized or because you were baptized in another
Christian tradition, you can begin that journey through the process
which we call The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).
This process is also open to Catholic adults who have not received
the sacraments of Confirmation or Eucharist.

The Christmas Season will soon be upon us and we want to
help you and your family get ready for BOTH Christmas
and the Feast of the Holy Family. This year there are back
to back Mass obligations. With two obligations, this means
TWO Masses! See the chart to fulfill these obligations.
Remember: It’s NOT possible to fulfill both obligations with only one Mass! Two Masses are needed! Jesus would love to see you twice!

SURVIVING THE HOLIDAYS
Navigating the holidays if you are separated or divorced can be
a challenge. Join us on Saturday, Dec. 18 from 9:30AM -
11:30AM at the Pastoral Center (3888 Paducah Drive San
