We Welcome Our Visitors who are with us this morning.

We hope that you are uplifted by the Gospel at our worship service.

We invite you to join us every Sunday. Please sign our guestbook in the entry.

Preparation for Worship: Read Psalm 33 (Lutheran Service Book or Pew Bible)

Opening Hymn: 814 O Bless the Lord, My Soul LSB 814

Invocation We invoke (“call upon”) the name of the one true God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

P In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

C Amen.

P Our help is in the name of the Lord,

C who made heaven and earth.

P If You, O Lord, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand?

C But with You there is forgiveness; therefore You are feared.

P Since we are gathered to hear God’s Word, and call upon Him in prayer and praise,

let us first consider our unworthiness and confess before God and one another that

we have sinned in thought, word, and deed, and that we cannot free ourselves

from our sinful condition. Together as His people let us take refuge in the infinite

mercy of God, our heavenly Father, seeking His grace for the sake of Christ, and

saying: God, be merciful to me, a sinner.

Confession and Absolution We come before our Holy God recognizing that we are sinful and daily need His forgiveness.

P Let us then confess our sins to God our Father.

C Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We

have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done

and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole

heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your

present and eternal punishment. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have

mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your

will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen.

P In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for His sake

God forgives us all our sins. To those who believe in Jesus Christ He gives the

power to become the children of God and gives them the Holy Spirit. May the Lord,

who has begun this good work in us, bring it to completion in the day of our Lord

Jesus Christ.

C Amen.

Kyrie Latin for “O Lord.” We approach our Lord with a cry for help in all the needs of our earthly life. LSB 204

Gloria in Excelsis Latin for “Glory to God in the highest.” LSB 204

Salutation (“Greeting”) and Prayer of the Day

P The Lord be with you.

C And also with you.

P We pray:

O God, You make the minds of Your faithful to be of one will. Grant that we may love

what You have commanded and desire what You promise, that among the many

changes of this world our hearts may be fixed where true joys are found. We pray

this in Jesus’ name, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now

and forever.

C Amen.

First Reading - Psalm 33 (NKJV - Responsive)

P Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous!

C For praise from the upright is beautiful.

P Sing to Him a new song;

C Play skillfully with a shout of joy.

P For the word of the LORD is right,

C And all His work is done in truth.

P He loves righteousness and justice;

C The earth is full of the goodness of the LORD.

P By the word of the LORD the heavens were made,

C And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.

P Let all the earth fear the LORD;

C Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.

P The counsel of the LORD stands forever,

C The plans of His heart to all generations.

P No king is saved by the multitude of an army;

C A mighty man is not delivered by great strength.

P Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear Him,

C On those who hope in His mercy,

P To deliver their soul from death, And to keep them alive in famine.

C Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield.

P For our heart shall rejoice in Him, Because we have trusted in His holy name.

A Let Your mercy, O LORD, be upon us, Just as we hope in You.

P This is the Word of the Lord.

C Thanks be to God.

Second Reading 1 Peter 2:4-10 (NKJV)

P The Second reading is from 1 Peter 2:4-10.

C Glory to You, O Lord.

4 Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God

and precious, 5 you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy

priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6

Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, "Behold, I lay in Zion A chief cornerstone,

elect, precious, And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame." 7

Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, "The

stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone," 8 and "A stone of

stumbling And a rock of offense." They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to

which they also were appointed. 9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood,

a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who

called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10

who once were not a people but

are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.

P Here ends our second reading.

C Praise to You, O Christ.

Alleluia and Verse LSB 205 When God speaks to us in His Word it is natural for us to respond. We sing “Allelujah!”—meaning, “Praise the Lord!”

Apostles' Creed We boldly confess what we believe. LSB 207

C I believe in God, the Father Almighty,

maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died and was buried.

He descended into hell.

The third day He rose again from the dead.

He ascended into heaven

and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.

From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy Christian Church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting. Amen.

Hymn of the Day: “Oh, for a Thousand Tongues to Sing” Tune of TLH 360

1 Oh, for a thousand tongues to sing My great Redeemer’s praise,

The glories of my God and King, The triumphs of His grace!

2 My gracious Master and my God, Assist me to proclaim,

To spread through all the earth abroad, The honors of Thy name.

3 Jesus! The name that charms our fears, That bids our sorrows cease;

’Tis music in the sinner’s ears, ’Tis life and health and peace.

4 He breaks the pow’r of canceled sin; He sets the pris’ner free.

His blood can make the foulest clean; His blood avails for me.

5 Look unto Him, ye nations; own Your God, ye fallen race.

Look and be saved through faith alone, Be justified by grace.

6 See all your sins on Jesus laid; The Lamb of God was slain.

His soul was once an off’ring made For ev’ry soul of man.

7 To God all glory, praise, and love Be now and ever giv’n

By saints below and saints above, The Church in earth and heav’n.

Sermon: We Wish to See Jesus!

Text: John 12:20-26 (NKJV)

20 Now there were certain Greeks among those who came up to worship at

the feast. 21 Then they came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee,

and asked him, saying, "Sir, we wish to see Jesus." 22 Philip came and told

Andrew, and in turn Andrew and Philip told Jesus. 23 But Jesus answered

them, saying, "The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified. 24 "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground

and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain. 25 "He who

loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it

for eternal life. 26 "If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am,

there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will

honor.

Closing Hymn: “Beautiful Savior” (with alternate lyrics v. 2-3)

Beautiful Savior, King of Creation,

Son of God and Son of Man!

Truly I'd love Thee, Truly I'd serve Thee,

Light of my soul, my Joy, my Crown.

Jesus, our Savior, We come to seek Thy face.

We come to see Thee in Thy Word.

Give us Thy blessing, Grant us forgiveness,

Fill us, O Lord, with love and grace!

We praise Thee, Savior, Here in Thy presence,

We’ve shared the blessings of Thy Word!

Go with us, Jesus, Bless us and keep us,

Until at last, we see Thee, Lord!

Beautiful Savior, Lord of the nations,

Son of God and Son of Man!

Glory and honor, Praise, adoration,

Now and forevermore be Thine! v. 1, 4 - Public domain. v. 2-3 – Luke Bernthal
