Sacramental Celebrations and Other Information
Confessions: Every weekday morning after Mass in the Basilica you may ask the Priest for confession. Saturdays from 4-4:45 p.m. in the Basilica. Marriage: Couples must arrange their wedding ceremony at least 6 months beforehand. Every couple must attend a Pre-Cana meeting. Log on to: www.pre-cana.org for dates and registration. Sacrament of the Sick: If you know you are going to be hospitalized, consider receiving the Sacrament of Anointing beforehand at any weekday Mass. Ask the priest before Mass in the sacristy. Communion to the Homebound: Our Eucharistic Ministers are happy to bring Holy Communion to the homebound. To arrange this, please call the Rectory. Baptism: Parents wishing to celebrate the Sacrament of Baptism with their children must attend a "Registration and Instruction Session" on the First Saturday of any month at 11 am in the Basilica Conference Center. At these sessions it will be necessary for both parents to attend, and to bring a copy of the baby's birth certificate. Necessary registration forms will be completed, the required instruction will take place, and the Baptism will be scheduled. Remember, both Godparents must be Catholic, 16 years old, and must have received the Sacrament of Confirmation. Godparents may attend these sessions but are not required to do so. Baptisms are celebrated in English on the third Saturday of each month at noon in the Basilica. Once this session is completed, you may schedule the ceremony for any month. Baptisms are celebrated in Spanish on the second Saturday of each month at noon in the Basilica. Spanish “Registration and Instructions” on the first Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the Basilica Conference Center. It is no longer necessary to come to the Rectory Office to set up a Baptism celebration. You may call the rectory for Chinese or Italian Baptisms.

MORE TIME FOR PRAYER People are encouraged to gather in prayer groups or as individuals to pray before the Eucharist. This kind of prayer is most fruitful and powerful. Our Friday prayer time before the Blessed Sacrament in Saint Joseph Chapel begins at 9:00 am until 7:30 pm. Can you find even ten minutes on a Friday to pray before the Lord in the Eucharist?
FIRST FRIDAY February 2nd is First Friday.
Every First Friday after the 8:30 a.m. Mass, special devotions to the
Sacred Heart are prayed followed by Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament.
All are welcome. Some extra moments of
Eucharistic Adoration might just be what you need.
FIRST SATURDAY February 3rd is First Saturday.
Every First Saturday of the month at 8:30 a.m. in Regina Pacis there is
the celebration of the Mass in honor of St. Pio. After Mass we pray the
Rosary and Venerate the Relic of St. Pio. All are welcome to honor our
Padre Pio.
February 2nd is the
Feast of the Presentation of the
Lord, celebrating the presentation of Christ in the temple on the 40th day after His
birth.
On February 3rd, the feast of Saint
Blaise, we will be blessing
throats after the morning Mass.

Chinese New Year Celebration
On Sunday, February 11, 2018 our Parish will celebrate the Chinese New Year. It is a way of appreciating and sharing the beauty of different cultures. The event will start with the 12 noon multi-language Mass in the Basilica of Regina Pacis. The Holy Mass will end with the veneration of the ancestors according to the Chinese Catholic tradition. It is an opportunity to pray for the souls of all the departed, including those who are not Chinese. The celebration will continue in the Pre-K Gym with an entertainment program and refreshments. All are invited.
El día Domingo, 11 de Febrero del 2018, nuestra Parroquia estará celebrando el Año Nuevo Chino. Es una manera de apreciar y compartir la belleza de las diferentes culturas. Este evento iniciará con una Misa en varios idiomas a las 12:00 PM en La Basílica de Regina Pacis. La Santa Misa terminará con una oración de los Ancestros de acuerdo a La Tradición Católica China. Es una oportunidad para orar por las almas de todos los difuntos, incluyendo a aquellos que no son de descendencia China. La celebración continuará en El Gimnasio con un programa de entretenimiento y refrigerio. ¡Todos están invitados! Domenica 11 febbraio, la nostra parrocchia celebra il capodanno cinese. E’ un modo per apprezzare e condividere la bellezza delle diverse culture. La celebrazione iniziera’ alle ore 12:00 nella Basilica Regina Pacis con una Santa Messa in quattro lingue. A conclusione della Santa Messa ci sara’ il rito della preghiera per gli antenati, secondo la tradizione cattolica cinese. E’ una opportunita’ per pregare per tutte le anime dei defunti, anche quelle di coloro che non sono cinesi. La celebrazione continuera’ nel Pre-K Gym con un programma di intrattenimento e un rinfresco. Tutti sono invitati.

The Holy Father speaks… The Lord’s call — let it be said at the outset — is not clear-cut as any of those things
we can hear, see or touch in our daily experience. God comes silently and discreetly,
without imposing on our freedom. Thus it can happen that his voice is drowned out by
the many worries and concerns that fill our minds and hearts.
We need, then, to learn how to listen carefully to his word and the story of his life, but also to be attentive
to the details of our own daily lives, in order to learn how to view things with the eyes of faith, and to keep
ourselves open to the surprises of the Spirit.
We will never discover the special, personal calling that God has in mind for us if we remain enclosed in
ourselves, in our usual way of doing things, in the apathy of those who fritter away their lives in their own
little world. We would lose the chance to dream big and to play our part in the unique and original story
that God wants to write with us.
What can I do as a Parishioner to promote
vocations to the priesthood and religious life?
Extend an invitation.
Many people claim that they were never invited to explore a vocation to the priesthood or religious life. Extend this invitation to a young person who you think might have a religious or priestly vocation. Your invitation could make a difference in someone’s life.
The ritual honoring of ancestors by Chinese Catholics was officially permitted by Pope Pius XII in 1939. This ritual is expressively Catholic and should not be confused with the practices of Buddhism or other Asian folk religions. The essential part of the Ancestral Veneration Ritual is the presentation of incense, flowers, wine and fruits followed by three bows of the head before a tablet engraved in honor of the ancestors. Incense represents prayers. In offering incense, our Chinese Catholics pray that their prayers and wishes for their ancestors rise like incense all the way to heaven, where they hope their ancestors are enjoying the heavenly bliss. Flowers express love. Although the ancestors and their descendants are separated like heaven is separated from earth, our Chinese Catholics’ affection for their ancestors has not been interrupted. They express their love through flowers and they hope that their ancestors are pleased with them. Fruits signify achievements. Our Chinese Catholics recall their ancestors’ merits in cultivating and educating later generations; they cherish the memory of their ancestors in their material and spiritual contribution to humanity’s cultures and traditions; and they praise their ancestors’ achievements in virtues, words and deeds. Wine symbolizes life. Just as Jesus turns wine into His Blood and we use wine at a banquet to wish people good health, our Chinese Catholics present wine to their ancestors to wish them eternal life in heaven.

VOCATION RETREAT WITH BISHOP DIMARZIO
In this Year of Vocation, young men are invited to encounter Jesus Christ on the diocese’s
annual Vocation Retreat with Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio. The weekend retreat will be held at the Immaculate Conception Center in Douglaston, March 2-4.
It is open to men who are high school seniors and older. Attendees will meet with and hear inspiring talks from Bishop DiMarzio and several seminarians,
have an opportunity to reflect on their own vocations and spend time with God. Also part of the three-day program: Mass, communal and private prayer, eucharistic adoration,
interaction with the seminarians and presentations designed to help participants discern whether God may be calling them to the priesthood.

Let's Talk: Q: Doesn’t forgiveness enable others to walk all over us? A: Forgiveness is incredibly difficult and, at first glance, may appear to be granting permission to others to wrong us without fear of retribution or consequence. Forgiveness, however, is not to be equated with letting someone off the hook. First of all, forgiveness is something that you do for yourself. Forgiveness allows you to let go of feelings that, left unchecked, will do more damage to you than to the one who hurt you. According to an old saying, the inability to forgive is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. Second, forgiveness calls out the wrong another person has done, even if that person is unable to ask for forgiveness. As Jesus was dying on the Cross, he said the words, “Father, forgive them, they know not what they do.” (Luke 23:34) These words were a public indictment of the wrong that had been done to him and made for a powerful statement of who actually possessed the greater strength. Forgiving someone does not mean that the behavior was acceptable. Rather, forgiveness turns the matter over to God.
