Principal’s Report Dear Parents and Caregivers, Greetings from a very cold and wet Adelaide. Temperature didn’t get over 13 degrees today. On the brighter side we visited Nazareth Catholic Community today which compromises a primary campus of approximately 800 children and a secondary college of 1000. At this school they have: on-site day care, kindy, playgroup, reception to Year 7, a café as well as regular activities to cater for the “Wise Owls”, (older folk in the community). Please keep in your prayers the Bufi family. Dawn passed away on Monday following a brief illness. Dawn will always be remembered as the friendly face behind Larsen’s Newsagency. A truly respected lady within the Innisfail community. May God hold her gently in his hands. Last week in the busyness, I forgot to thank Rebecca for her organization of Fathers Night. It was great to see so many families enjoying the night. I would also like to thank Michelle for her coordination of the Fathers Day raffle which raised a huge $2960. A great effort. Thanks also to Mandy and the ladies who helped with the Pie Drive which raised approximately $750. Last Tuesday night the Prep dads and a few granddads attended the Prep Fathers Night. It is always rewarding to see the children
proudly showing their significant males what goes on in their classroom. This week the children are engaging in NAIDOC activities with the week culminating with a special assembly on Friday. Sandy has put in many hours behind the scene with the help of Lorraine Maund. The children certainly have a diverse range of activities to complete. Today the younger classes in the school were visited by the local ambulance, as part of Ambulance Week. I am told that many within our community have contracted the flu. Holidays are coming at an opportune time. It certainly has been a very full term. I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday and look forward to everyone’s safe return on Tuesday, 4th October. God bless, Have a great week and holiday Vicki

Religious education CELEBRATING NAIDOC WEEK: This special time is dedicated to encouraging the children to be open to learning about, discussing and reflecting on how Aboriginal and Islander people are connected to Country. This year the theme is ‘Songlines – The Living Narrative of Our Nation’. For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, the Dreaming describes a time when the earth, people and animals were created by their ancestral spiritual beings. They are believed to have created the rivers, lakes, plants, land formations and living creatures. Dreaming tracks are sometimes called ‘Songlines’ which record the travels of these ancestral spirits who ‘sung’ the land into life. National NAIDOC committee co-chairs Anne Martin and Ben Mitchell said the theme is one which will showcase Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people histories and deep spiritual connection to the land. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people used Songlines to navigate vast distances and map oceans, waterholes, rivers, birds, animals, plants and hunting grounds. The paths of Songlines are recorded in traditional arts, crafts, dance, songs and stories .

LITURGICAL CELEBRATIONS: On Wednesday this week the Year 2/3 and 3/ 4 classes will be visited by Father Nathan between 10.00 and 11.00am. Then at 11.30 the Year 5 /6 class will celebrate their class mass. Wednesday 14th September is the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. This is a feast of the Lord, it celebrates the ‘lifting up’ of the Son of Man on the cross, into glory, and the paradox of the cross as a sign of humiliation and death, yet the source of victory and life. Parents are most welcome to join with us for this Eucharistic liturgy.
PLEASE PRAY FOR: Please keep Mrs Bufi and her family in your thoughts and prayers as her mother-in-law, Dawn, sadly passed away this week. As a St Rita’s community we extend our deepest sympathy to Aileen, Gary, Emily and Nicholas as they mourn a beloved member of their family. May God grant her eternal rest with him for ever. A PRAYER FOR HOLIDAYS: As this term, unbelievably comes to a close we wish you all a relaxing and refreshing holiday and trust that you will all return safely for Term 4.
