Parish News RCIA Rite of Acceptance/Welcome Celebrated

Those attending the 11:00am Mass this weekend were introduced to a group of people of all ages who have expressed interest in becoming full members of the Catholic Church through the Rite of Initiation of Adults (RCIA) process. Those who are unbaptized (catechumens) were part of the Rite of Acceptance. Those who are already baptized, but have not yet received the other two Sacraments of Initiation (candidates), took part in the Rite of Welcoming. The next stage of the process will involve finding sponsors who are willing to walk with them as they learn about the Catholic faith in weekly sessions on Sunday afternoons. Learn more at www.strichards.com or contact Susie Osacho, Director of Faith Formation, via [email protected] or 612-869-2426, ext 120. Farewell to the Poor Clares

From the earliest days of our parish, St. Richard’s Catholic Church has had a relationship with the Sisters of the Poor Clares Monastery in Bloomington. Those Sisters are now moving to Rochester and

would like you to come say goodbye at a party hosted by St. Bonaventure Church (901 E 90th St, Bloomington) on Sunday, January 21, from 1:00—3:00pm. Also attending the party will be the Sisters of Pro Ecclesia Sancta, who will be moving into the Bloomington Monastery. Bloomington-Richfield Grief Support Coalition St. Richard’s Catholic Church is a member of the Grief Support Coalition that is holding the winter series from 4:30—6:00pm on Thursdays through February 22 at Christ the King Lutheran Church (8600 Fremont Ave S, Bloomington). The January 25 session will be Habits of

Resilience for Grievers, presented by Beryl Schewe. Everyone is welcome to come for the speaker, support group or both. You can join anytime—the full schedule is available at www.brgriefcoalition.com. For more information, call Christ the King Church at 952-881-8600. Support Ecumenism in Our Community We are in the midst of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, which is celebrated by Catholics, Orthodox and Protestant Christians worldwide. Here at St. Richard, we put ecumenism into practice, especially on the First Friday of each month, when we invite Christians from all faith traditions for Taizé Prayer. Invite your friends to join us on Friday, February 2, at 7:30pm!

Lent Small Group Invitation

Lent 2018 kicks off on Ash Wednesday, February 14. The St. Richard Faith Formation Team invites you to consider three main small group themes (in addition to the traditional Lenten pillars of prayer, fasting and almsgiving). Themes include: Finding Hope, Understanding the Mass Through

Symbols, Rituals and Why They Matter, and The Eucharist and It’s Connection to Scripture. Sign up in the narthex following weekend Masses or check out the parish website, Facebook page or by contacting Susie Osacho directly via 612-869-2426, ext 120, or [email protected]. Be intentional. Deepen your faith. Be better prepared to answer the question, “Who is Jesus to me and why does it matter?” Deacon Bob’s Homilies

Did you miss Mass here last weekend or just want to read the homily again? Deacon Bob Schnell posts his homilies on our website. Just go to the “News/Events” area at www.strichards.com and click on “Deacon Bob’s Homilies.” Winter Blood Drive

We have been advised of an urgent need for donations due to a winter blood shortage. We will be hosting our blood drive on Wednesday, January 31, from 1:00—7:00pm. Pre-register your blood donation at www.redcrossblood.org using sponsor code StRich or call 1-800-RED-CROSS. In addition to blood donors, we need hospitality volunteers to greet donors and share treats! If you can share a couple of hours of your time to help us provide a warm welcome, please call Nicole in the parish office or email [email protected]. 2018 Catholic Services Appeal ¡El Llamado de los Servicios Católicos del 2018 está a punto de lanzarse!
