FROM THE PASTOR…

Dear Parishioners, For many, the centerpiece of the Fall season and the month of November is the feast of Thanksgiv-ing—this year, November 26th. It is an occasion to commit ourselves to fight against hunger and poverty and to show gratitude for the lives we are fortunate enough to live. One way to do this is to donate food or funds to our parish Food Pantry. While the Pantry will be closed on Thanksgiving weekend (Thursday and Saturday), there will be a significant holiday food distribution on the prior Saturday, November 21st. Moreover, the collection taken up at the Thanksgiving Day Mass (see below) will be earmarked for our Pantry, to replenish extra funds spent at Thanksgiving time. We remind you that a great “food” present to the Pantry is a gift card to a local supermarket. This way we can balance out our purchases for distribution and not wind up with a surplus of one item. While we will purchase and distribute some poultry, we have no means to hold turkeys or chickens properly before the ac-tual day of distribution. Please recognize that dropping off a frozen (or worse, defrosted) turkey may strike you as a nice idea, but works against the effective dynamic of the Pantry. Dry or canned foods are always welcome, and, given the rising cost of food, cash donations are the most useful support. We do not accept clothing, as the Food Bank of NY insists that clothing distribution not be on the same site as food distribution. Thanks to all our benefactors and volunteers for their efforts to put food on the tables of families in need.

- Father Jerry Jecewiz

JOIN THE FAMILY MASS CHOIR... We are ready to start a new year for St. Raphael‟s Family Mass Choir and we need your tal-ents. The children and adults working with the choir have done an excellent job over the recent years and have made significant contributions to the liturgical life of St. Raphael‟s parish. Children in grades 2 and above who are ready and willing to sing are encouraged to join us. We would also be interested in having any high school students participate. The practices are held one or two Mon-day‟s a month at 7:00PM and the choir will be singing at the monthly Family Masses, Christmas Eve, First Communion Mass, Confirmation and other appropriate occasions. Dates and other specific in-formation will follow. The only requirements are that you attend practice and Mass and behave appropriately. If you have any questions regarding the choir please feel free to call the rectory or call Joe Becker at 718-392-3008 or email Joe at [email protected].

Our St. Raphael Adult Choir has started up again following the summer break. We are looking for new members in all voice categories: soprano, alto, tenor and bass. If you have sung, hummed or whistled in the bathtub or shower at some time, consider joining us! See or call our music min-ister Jan (718-930-5061) for a private hearing. We promise you the security of social fellowship with other choir mem-bers and increased satisfaction and joy in the service of God!
