Baptismal waters promise us eternal life so we call the book “The Book of the Living”. Please take time to record the names of your deceased relatives and friends, no matter when they passed away. In this last year we have had many funerals. The deceased were of all age ranges. I was meditating about how we really do not know when we will be called to see Jesus and provide an accounting of our lives. Our death may be years away and it might be in this hour… as I write this I am remembering a Godchild, Mikey. He died this Wednesday morning. As a young boy he and his siblings spent many hours in our home in the daycare Valerie operated. His death was unexpected. In our life journey we learn of love through our connectedness to family and friends. Some had a full life with many gathered around them. Some infants did not even get to feel the hands of those who loved them, yet in their short lives in the womb many came to love them and anticipated their arrival. Love is present in all lives. Where love is, God is found. We can learn so much from those who have gone before us... we just need to listen… we just need to be quiet and meditate on the joys, light and example they bring. When someone dies there is the pain of separation: knowing we will not be able to hold them, we will not be able to hear their physical voice. This separation makes this quote from Gabriel Garcia Marquez seems even more important: “Always say what you feel, and do what you think is good and right. If I knew that today would be the last time I’d see you, I would hug you tight and pray the Lord be the keeper of your soul. If I knew that this would be the last time you pass through this door, I’d embrace you, kiss you, and call you back for one more. If I knew that this would be the last time I would hear your voice, I’d take hold of each word to be able to hear it over and over again. If I knew this is the last time I see you, I’d tell you I love you, and would not just assume foolishly you know it already.” M. Scott Peck, "A Different Drum" provides us with a similar thought: “How strange that we should ordinarily feel compelled to hide our wounds when we are all wounded! Community requires the ability to expose our wounds and weaknesses to our fellow creatures. It also requires the ability to be affected by the wounds of others... But even more important is the love that arises among us when we share, both ways, our woundedness.” We live in a wounded society. We all have things we are not proud of having done or said. Some have the wounds of pain that is masked by cover-ups such as drugs or alcohol. When we rally together, when we support each other, when we are willing to say: I do not know what to say… but I am here for you, I love you and support you. Then there is a sharing of the sorrow, a sharing of the hurt. A hurt shared is a hurt lessened since we do not carry it alone. That is what Jesus calls His disciples to do help one another through the good times but especially the wounded times. Here is the challenge: don't just assume others know how you feel! Be honest and share your joys, your wounds, and your love for others. Jesus Loves you and so do I. Blessings Fr. Chuck

32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time Greetings, November 6, 2016

Placed next to the Baptismal font is a white binder with the names of those who have gone before us.

If I knew this is the last time I see you, I’d tell you I love you, and would not just assume foolishly you know it already.”

M. But even more important is the love that arises among us when we share, both ways, our woundedness.”

V The Prophets will officially begin on November 8 at 10 AM in the St. Kateri Room. In this bible study, you will discover who the prophets were, what their message was, and why they are important to us. See how their powerful words speak to us today, shedding light on our faith and our lives.

See Blake for more details, 218-441-4907 or email at [email protected]

THOUGHTS ON MERCY… “Among the Sacraments, certainly Reconciliation renders present with particular efficacy the merciful face of God: it is constantly and ceaselessly made real and manifest. Let us not forget, both as penitent and confessors: there is no sin that God cannot forgive!” ~ Pope Francis

Remember! St. Philip’s School participates in Box Tops for Education. Also collected are bottle caps on Coke products, as well as coupons inside Coke 12-pack/case cartons. Clip and collect General Mills Box Tops and turn them in to the School or Parish Office or drop them in the clear box by the parking lot entrance bulletin board.

St. Philip’s needs helpers to create a prayerful atmosphere in the worship space throughout the year, especially during our upcoming Christmas Season. We need several folks to water plants, help with decorating the Church, putting together trees, ironing banners, hanging up garland, etc. Many of the tasks are great jobs for families! If you can help, please contact Aana Freihammer at [email protected] or call 218-444-4262.

DRIVERS WANTED... Are you looking for a new way to help volunteer? We are seeking folks who would be willing to help give rides to and from appointments on an “on call” basis. Please contact Blake for more information [email protected] or 441-4907.

DAY 35 (November 1): Confronting the hard cases.

The circumstances that abortion advocates use most often, in an attempt to justify abortion, is the pregnancy that’s the result of rape. Meet Ryan Bomberger in the following podcast. Ryan is someone who is a living, breathing example of hope. Ryan was conceived in rape, adopted at birth – and raised in a multi-racial family of 15. He, along with his wife Bethany, run the Radiance Foundation, which is involved in cutting-edge pro-life educational projects. Ryan discusses his story, race in America, and the devastating impact abortion is having on the African-American community: http://40daysforlife.com/2016/11/01/podcast44/

SILENT AND PEACEFUL PRAYER THIS MONDAY, NOVEMBER 7* AT PLANNED PARENTHOOD; NOON – 1 PM. *The day before election. All denominations and all ages are invited. Questions: Call 218-368-9019.

“May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting encouragement and good hope through his grace, encourage your hearts and strengthen them in every good deed and word.” 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17

There are two important lessons here. First, we are called to be generous with our encouragement and hope. As God shows us mercy, we must be merciful to others. Second, joy is contagious! The joy we receive from doing good works not only strengthens us, it encourages others as well.

Saints!!! This week we are talking about the lives of the Saints and the impact they have on our lives! Join us on Tuesday the 8th at 6:30 PM in the Cafeteria for a free meal and an engaging discussion into our Catholic Heroes!

LOW GLUTEN HOSTS Low gluten hosts are available at every Mass, daily or Sunday. Sometimes due to a medical condition, individuals are not able to receive the regular hosts that are used in Holy Communion. If you or someone you know needs a low gluten host, ask a greeter, sacristan, information station person, or a priest, we will be glad to assist. In order to receive: enter the communion line that is receiving from the presider. Indicate to the presider you wish a low gluten host. He will present the Body of Christ from a special pyx. For the several weeks, Father Don, and Father Chuck, will be announcing the availability of a low gluten host at every Mass.

LIFE?

“The promotion of the culture of life should be the highest priority in our societies. If the right to life is not defended decisively as a condition for all other rights of the person, all other references to human rights remain deceitful and illusory.”
