Dear friends in the Lord: At Baptism, each of us is marked by the Lord and entrusted with a special responsibility to tell the world of his message and invitation. We are, indeed, called to serve as His missionaries. World Mission Sunday affords all baptized Catholics an opportunity to celebrate their missionary vocation through prayer and sacrifice for the missionary work of the Church. This year’s World Mission Sunday, October 20th, marks the 110th Anniversary of our “mission independence.” Through 1908, the Church in the United States was the beneficiary of the generosity of the Catholic Faithful of Europe through the Society of the Propagation of the Faith. If fact, two-thirds of the very first collection of the Propagation of the Faith. In 1822, was sent to the Church in America, making it possible to build churches and schools, educate clergy and religious, provide for the good works of religious communities, and support evangelization here at home. By a 1908 papal degree, the designation “mission territory” was removed from the United States. More than one hundred years later, as we recall our own mission history, we are called upon to assist both spiritually and financially the more than 1,150 “young churches” in Asia, Africa, the Pacific Islands, and Latin America, all of which have the same needs that the United States once had. With this in mind, please be as generous as your means will allow this World Mission Sunday so that the Propagation of the Faith can continue to spread the “Good News” to the growing faith communities of our day. So, too, following the call of our Holy Father, Pope Francis, let us pray that our celebration of World Mission Sunday will generate within us a renewed awareness of the need to proclaim the Gospel to all corners of the world. With prayerful best wishes, I am, Faithfully in Christ, +Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan Archbishop of New York RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS The Religious Education Program is open from 9:30AM to 2:30PM Monday through Thursday and at night from 6PM to 8:30PM Monday through Wednesday. Please call in advance to make an appointment. Registration for 2018 to 2019 has closed. Please call office for more information. (845) 429 – 8824. There was no class on Saturday, October 6th due to teacher Forum in the Bronx and no class Monday, October 8th due to Columbus Day. Classes will resume the following week. There will be two confirmation meetings for parents in the school gym at 7PM: In English, it is on Monday, October 15th and in Spanish, it is on Monday, the 22nd. This is a very important meeting. If a parent cannot attend this meeting, please find a reliable adult to give information packet to. The next parent meeting will be in April. Please continue praying for our students. We all need to pray for each other.

Good News Reflection: Sharing God's wealth In this Sunday's Gospel reading, Jesus asks the rich young man, "Why do you call me good? Only God is good." There's a two-fold message here. First, if the young man truly believes that Jesus is good and that his teachings are good (and wasn't merely trying to win him over with flattery), and if he has observed his miracles and sinless life, then it should be obvious to him that all this goodness is proof that Jesus is God. Secondly, Christ's question offers the young man an opportunity to become more humble. If he truly believes what Jesus says, then he should realize that since only God is good, no one else, including himself, obeys the commandments perfectly. Such a realization should have opened his heart to the truth that Jesus explains next: "There's only one thing keeping you from being holy like God: earthly attachments. To gain freedom from this world and possess only what belongs to the kingdom of God share your treasures." He's saying this to all of us, but he's not telling us to become destitute. To "give up" everything we possess means being willing to give it away. If it's a good thing for us to have because it blesses us, God does want us to enjoy it, but true joy comes from being God's partner as a distributor of his wealth. It's the fullest way to live! And we are all called to live this way. If we remain attached to earthly stuff, we distance ourselves from God and hurt those who would benefit from our generosity. However, to achieve complete freedom from attachments, we cannot rely only on our own efforts. It's often very difficult to let go and become willing to share everything. The good news is that Jesus made it possible by taking our sins to the cross and sharing with us his own Holy Spirit, who empowers us to do whatever he asks of us. Our lives on earth become more fulfilling when we dare to share. The more we give to others in a spirit of love, the more we receive the treasures of heaven. Indeed, we become one of heaven's treasures! In comparison to the holy ways of dealing with life's circumstances that Jesus modeled for us, how unlike Jesus -- how worldly -- are you today? And how divine is your behavior? What earthly treasures have you given away? Decide upon an action that will help you detach from earthly treasures this week. Share the story of a time when you gave away an earthly treasure even though you really didn't want to detach from it. What motivated you to give it away or let go of it? How did God repay you? © 2018 Terry Modica, Catholic Digital Resources, www.catholicdr.com. Printed by permission. To view or subscribe to daily Good News Reflections, visit www.gnm.org.

FR. GEORGE BOACHIE NYARKO Catholic Diocese of Techiman

P.O. Box 251 Techiman, B/A

Ghana, West Africa The Catholic Daughters, Court Joan of Arc #604 will hold their monthly meeting on Sunday October 14, 2018 at 1:30PM in Lomagna Hall at the Marian Shrine in Stony Point.

¿Qué tesoros mundanos has abandonado? ¿Qué te motivó a abandonarlo o a dejarlo ir? ¿Cómo te retribuyó Dios? © 2018 Terry Modica, Catholic Digital Resources, www.catholicdr.com.
