Ministry and Continuing Education for Adults Because Our Faith is too Rich to have ever Learned it All…

Contact Heidi Clark, Director of Adult Ministry, 281.333.3891, Ext. 328 or [email protected] for more information.

ACTS Retreat for Men ACTS retreat for men is a three-day, three night get-a-way with spiritual direction provided. Talks and activities focus on Adoration, Community, Theology, and Service (ACTS). Holy Scripture and Church teachings are the foundation along with renewing yourself spiritually and building lasting friendships. The next men’s ACTS retreat is set for the weekend of September 4-7, and it is being directed by Bob McCormick and a staff of more than 30 men. Contact Bob for more information at [email protected].

Interested in being Catholic? If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about becoming Catholic, our RCIA program is just the ticket!

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, is a process of prayer, reflection, and learning that

allows for the continual discernment of God's will. Want more info? Contact Heidi Clark, 281.33.3891, Ext. 328 or [email protected].

Needing an Annulment? Although people normally enter marriage with good intentions, many marriages fail. When that happens, a civil divorce grants you the right to remarry in the civil realm, but it does not grant you a similar right in the Catholic Church. The purpose of the nullity process is to determine if the marriage lacked one or more of the elements that the Catholic Church considers essential to form a valid, binding union until the death of either spouse. If this can be substantiated, then the marriage is not binding in the Church’s understanding and an annulment is granted, making you free to marry in the Catholic Church. The process is for spiritual and ecclesiastical purposes only and has no effect whatsoever upon civil law. Any children born of this marriage remain as they have always been—the legitimate and precious offspring of the marriage. Our understanding of marriage is based on the words of Jesus Christ in his direct teachings on marriage, divorce and remarriage (Mk 10:2-12; Lk 16:18; Mt 5:31-32; Mt 19:3-11; 1Cor 7:10-11, 39; Rom 7:2-3). St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church has trained and certified Case Sponsors who will walk you through the process, answer your questions, offer support, and guide you from beginning to end. If you or someone is in need of an annulment, pray for God’s assistance and grace as you discern whether or not to take this next step. If you’d like more information, contact Heidi Clark at 281.333.3891, Ext. 328 or email [email protected].

Catholic…Divorced…Now What? It has been said that we are truly divorced only when we finally let go of our marriage, mourn our loss, and adjust ourselves to our new life. At St. Paul, our Divorce Care Group exists to help one another do just that. This is a Catholic based peer-ministry support group designed to help guide men and women through the process of divorce. The program explores the stress, anger, blame and guilt of divorce with the goal of leading participants toward ultimate forgiveness, happiness and growth. Plans are to begin a new Monday evening group in early October. Please contact Heidi Clark if you are interested in participating: [email protected] or 281.333.3891.

Does your Catechism Still Fit? Chances are the catechism you studied when you prepared for your confirmation was meant to meet the faith needs of a young teenager. But you’ve grown a lot since then and have a whole lifetime of adult experiences that need integration and understanding. Grow in your faith by participating in this interesting, interactive study that takes place the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month. Sessions begin Tuesday, September 9, at 7:30 PM in Room 10. They are led by author, teacher, and theologian Julie Dienno-Demarest. Participants should have a copy of the catechism for adults and a Bible.

New Bible Study in the Fall Do you really know Christ? Do you understand the work He did after his resurrection to empower believers and build the Church? Learn more and grow in understanding by

participating in the Acts: The Spread of the Kingdom Bible Study beginning Wednesday, September 10, at 7 PM in Room 1. The study unfolds over 20 sessions and will wrap up in mid-

February. The cost to participate is $30, which includes study guide, work book, and other supplies. It’s good to have your own Bible for class, too, but you can also borrow one from the adult ministry room. Registration forms are available at the Welcome Center

Prayer Shawls Available Thanks to the dedication of a generous and prayerful group of parishioners, a supply of prayer shawls is available for loved ones in your life who are struggling with illness, isolation, grief, aging, or other issues. These shawls are knit by volunteers who, as they are doing so, pray for the needs of whomever will receive the shawl. Shawls are free and are available in a range of colors and styles. If you or someone you know would benefit from receiving a shawl, call Heidi at 281-333-3891, ext. 328.

The Church is the house and body of Christ. We have to take care of it.

Our festival is the largest fundraiser of the year and a big source of income for our church. Join this community effort to raise funds, allowing our parish to provide both physical and spiritual support to members of our community. 1- Ask places you frequent for donations (i.e. your company, your suppliers, doctors, stylist, restaurants, etc.). Donations are to St. Paul The Apostle Catholic Church. No donation is too big or too small and most donations are tax deductible.

Examples for donations are gift cards, event tickets, auction items, certificates for services, checks, etc. 2- Explain why donations are important St. Paul has been serving the Clear Lake community for over 50 years and has over 2,600 registered families. ICM School Supply Drive Last year, Interfaith Caring Ministries was able to provide school supplies for more than 450 kids in the Clear Creek and Friendswood school districts. These efforts were made possible by the generosity of community members. For as little as $25, ICM can equip one child with the school supplies he or she needs to start the school year. If you can, please consider donating to ICM at 151 Park Ave., League City, 77573.
