Seeking to Know, Grow In, and Show the Ways of Jesus
Letter from the Pastor
Dear Friends,
I have some good news. On February 3, 2015, the Church Council voted unanimously to extend to Rev. Don Deeker, the honorary title of Pastor Emeritus. That title is reserved for persons who have served with merit in the church, and who have set an example of Christian faithfulness, and who have left a positive mark on the life of the congregation. Rev. Deeker has certainly fulfilled all those categories. During his time at St. Paul’s UCC, he tended faithfully to the spiritual and pastoral needs of the congregation. He and Carrie worked tirelessly at the church. They helped at church dinners, they participated in fellowship groups, helped with LOGOS, and, in general, inspired everyone to active involvement in the church and selfless love to all in need.
I am pleased to say that Rev. Deeker has accepted the invitation to become St. Paul’s Pastor Emeritus. On a date not yet set, but sometime after Easter we will invite Rev. Deeker and his family to a Sunday morning service honoring his ministry at St. Paul’s. We will present him with a certificate from the denomination and extend to him our enduring thanks and appreciation.
The title of Pastor Emeritus is an honorary title. That means the everyday tasks of ministry and the ongoing care of the congregation will not fall on Don. However, any pastor serving St. Paul’s UCC will be pleased and welcomed to turn to Don for advice and even help when needed. For his part, Don will continue to represent St. Paul’s UCC in the community. Having Don recognized as Pastor Emeritus in the community is a tremendous opportunity for us to continue to have a positive impact on the lives and faith of the people of Marthasville and beyond.
I am extremely pleased with the Council’s decision. I think it is a wonderful way to honor Rev. Deeker’s years of service at St. Paul’s UCC. I am also sure that I speak for Rev. Deeker when I say that he as much as anyone will be excited to welcome and receive, bless and support the next pastor of St. Paul’s.
Just imagine, there is someone out there being prepared by God to serve St. Paul’s UCC with integrity, faith, creativity, and of course with merit. I can’t wait to see what the future will bring. Knowing how loving and special you are, and having the resource of a Pastor Emeritus at hand, I am sure your next pastor will bring and be--good news.
Many Blessings, Pastor Donna

BLOOD DRIVE—Nutrition Facts :
Good nutrition is important in everyone’s life, especially to the blood donor—and iron is a major ingredient to good nutrition.
Iron is one of the body’s most important elements. Iron combines with protein to make hemoglobin—the red substance in the blood then carries oxygen from the lungs to body cells and removes carbon dioxide from these cells.
Foods rich in iron: red meats, soybeans, dried beans, peas, whole grains, prunes, and dried fruit.
Vitamin C helps the body absorb iron.
Drink water; avoid coffee and tea. The tannins in tea and coffee block the absorption of iron.
The Women’s Guild will serve refreshments for those donating blood.
If there are questions concerning eligibility call 1-800-GIVE BLOOD or the website at redcrossblood.org. More information can be found outside the Fellowship Hall.
Help is needed before and after the drive with moving tables etc. Call Karen Dohrer, chairperson, at 636-433-5543 if you can help.
Blood Facts: On any given day, an average of 38,000 units of red blood cells are needed for hospital patients in the U.S.
1 in 10 people entering the hospital needs blood.
Red blood cells must be transfused within 42 days.
There is no substitute for human blood. It cannot be manufactured.

An Irish Prayer May God give you…
For every storm, a rainbow,
For every tear, a smile,
For every care, a promise,
And a blessing in each trial.
For every problem life sends,
A faithful friend to share,
For every sigh, a sweet song,
And an answer for each prayer.

A Wish for a Friend
Wishing you a rainbow For sunlight after showers— Miles and miles of Irish smiles For golden happy hours— Shamrocks at your doorway For luck and laughter too, And a host of friends that never ends Each day your whole life through!
Legend of the Shamrock—According to legend, St. Patrick was traveling and
happened upon a number of Irish chieftains along a meadow. The tribal leaders were curious about the
Trinity and asked St. Patrick for an explanation. So he bent down, picked a shamrock, and showed it to
them, and explained how the three leaves are part of the one plant, and how similarly the three Persons,
the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, are part of one Supreme Being.
