E n aquél tiempo Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: Cuando venga el Hijo del hombre, sucederá como en tiempos de Noé. En los días que precedieron al diluvio, la gente comía, bebía y se casaba, hasta que Noé entró en el arca; y no sospechaban nada, hasta que llegó el diluvio y los ar-rastró a todos. Lo mismo sucederá cuando venga el Hijo del hombre. De dos hombres que estén en el campo, uno será llevado y el otro dejado. De dos mujeres que estén moliendo, una será llevada y la otra dejada. Estén prevenidos, porque ustedes no saben qué día vendrá su Señor. Entiéndanlo bien: si el dueño de casa supiera a qué hora de la noche va a llegar el ladrón, velaría y no dejaría perforar las paredes de su casa. Ustedes también estén preparados, porque el Hijo del hombre vendrá a la hora menos pensada.

J esus said to his disciples: “As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. In (those) days before the flood, they were eating and drink-ing, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day that Noah entered the ark. They did not know until the flood came and carried them all away. So will it be (also) at the coming of the Son of Man. Two men will be out in the field; one will be taken, and one will be left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken, and one will be left. Therefore, stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come. Be sure of this: if the master of the house had known the hour of night when the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and not let his house be broken into. So too, you also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.

“El Espíritu, fuente de esperanza”, las predicaciones de adviento del padre Cantalamessa

Bebamos, sobrios, la embriaguez del Espíritu». Este es el tema de las cuatro meditaciones que el predicador de la Casa Pontificia, Raniero Cantalamessa, realizará en presencia del papa Francisco en los viernes de ad-viento, en la capilla Redemptoris Mater del Palacio Apostólico. “En la reflexión teológica –subraya el capuchino en el Osservatore Romano explicando la elección del tema– se va afirmando cada vez más la que es denominada como ‘la teología del tercer artículo’, entendiendo con eso el artículo del Credo del Espíritu Santo”. Se trata de una corriente –añade el padre Cantalamessa– que no pretende sustituir a la teología tradicional, sino más bien ponerse a su lado y vivificarla”. Y así proponerse “hacer del Espíritu Santo no solamente el objeto del tratado al que se refiere, sino por así decir la atmósfera en la que se desarrolla toda la vida de la Iglesia y, en particular, toda búsqueda teológica”. En esta línea –concluye el predicador de la Casa Pontificia– las meditaciones de adviento se proponen reflex-ionar sobre el Espíritu Santo como la novedad teológica y espiritual más importante de después del Concilio y la mayor fuente de esperanza de la Iglesia. A las cuatro predicaciones, están invitados los cardenales, arzobispos y obispos, los secretarios de las Con-gregaciones, los prelados de la Curia Romana y del Vicariato de Roma, los superiores generales y los procuradores de las órdenes religiosas que forman parte de la Capilla pontificia.

‘It is faith in the love of Christ from which nothing can separate us: neither tribulation, nor anguish, nor perse-cution, nor danger, nor death, nor life.’ Pope Francis stressed this in his homily during the Mass he offered this morning in St. Peter’s Basilica in suf-frage for the souls of cardinals and bishops who have died in the course of the past year. Reminding those gathered that November is the month in which Christians recall the faithful departed, Fran-cis noted how we entrust the recently lost prelates to the Father’s faithful love, and “renew our appreciation for the Christian and priestly witness that we have left.” Nothing Can Separate Us “These Brothers have reached their destination, after having served the Church and loved the Lord Jesus, in the certainty of love that the Apostle Paul reminds us in the Second Reading: ‘Who will separate us from the love of Christ? (Rom 8:35).'” “Nothing can separate us from Christ’s love for us,” Francis underscored, not even death. These de-ceased he noted, “knew that our earthly pilgrimage ends at the house of the heavenly Father,” and that only there, is where one finds rest and peace. “The path to the Father’s house begins, for each of us, in the very day that we open our eyes to the light and, through the grace of Baptism.” “An important step in this journey, for us priests and bishops, is the moment, during priestly ordination, when we pronounce the ‘Here I am!'” Francis said. Shepherds of Christ’s Flock After that, he noted, priests are united to Christ in a special way. “The cardinals and bishops who today we remember in prayer, were shepherds of Christ’s flock. They donat-ed and sacrificed for the salvation of the people entrusted to them.” Francis noted how through the sacra-ments, they helped sanctify their people and lead them toward salvation. With fatherly love, Francis noted, these late cardinals and bishops “have striven to love everyone, especially the poor, the helpless and the needy.” Today, the Holy Father stressed, we are here to pray for them, “to offer the Holy Sacrifice for the repose of their souls and ask the Lord to make them shine forever in his kingdom of light (cf. Wis 3,7).” Communion of Saints “Some of them were called to bear witness to the Gospel in a heroic manner, sustaining heavy tribulations,” the Pontiff acknowledged, stressing, “we praise God for all the good that the Lord has done for us and for his Church through these our brothers and fathers in faith.” “We will continue to hear them next to us in the communion of saints,” the Holy Father said. “Nourished by the Bread of Life, we too, along with those who have gone before us, await with firm hope for the day of face-to-face with the bright and merciful face of the Father.” Mary watches over them, as she watches over us, Pope Francis said, praying may she help us to never sep-arate from God’s love.
