Vision Statement
We at Saint Oliver Plunkett Catholic Parish Primary school have a vision.
In the spirit of peace and forgiveness, with Jesus by our side, we aspire to be learners who are connected in a faith community that is inclusive,
respectful, loving and compassionate.
Dear Parents and Students, What a great way to start the week!
MOTHER’S DAY CELEBRATIONS Our annual Mother’s Day breakfast was extremely well attended and the hall was a buzz! We are so blessed to have an amazingly committed staff who worked to plan, set up and arrive at school in the dark to ensure a lovely spread was ready when mum’s and children arrived. The scones, croissants and pancakes/pikelets were well received. The posters around the hall and the photo booth were certainly a highlight. Please see the photos on the screen in our school foyer Thank especially to our Mother’s day team Cecilia Garden, Meg Grbac and Shelley Hardingham who planned and drove the breakfast. The entire staff did a great job. There have been many verbal and emailed thankyou messages that I have shared with our staff. They were greatly appreciated. Thank you to our amazing parent association for the Mother’s day Stall. To Jo Pezzimenti for organising the stall and her team for helping out so willingly on the day. To the families for their donations to our raffle and Lara for her overseeing the work that goes on around the organisation of the raffle.
SENIOR CAMP This week we send our year 5/6 students and many of our staff off to Benloch near Lancefield for their 3 day/2 night camp. The weather conditions are looking extremely cold so we will all need our thermals. The staff on these camps are on duty for the day and night. Their commitment to the children and their families is enormous and I thank them for this. All senior teachers will be attending the camp. The additional teachers attending are Mollie Russell, Sarah Johnson, Cecilia Garden and Jess Toniolo. Their classes will be taught by replacement teachers. Sue Leighton, and Trish Segrave will be there for the three days. Jaki will be attending on Wednesday and Thursday and I will be in attendance on Thursday night and Friday.
SCHOOL CLOSURE DAY Please be reminded that Friday May 17 is our term 2 school closure day. On this day we have Catholic Education Melbourne staff working with us to further our knowledge and implementation of differentiation across the school. There is no school for children. Please contact Camp Australia if you need care for your children on this day.
PREP 2020 ENROLMENTS Today we have completed our last prep 2020 enrolment meetings, we certainly have healthy numbers to fill two prep classes for next year. It has been great meeting with all of the children and their families. I hope to send out letters of offer early next week.
CAMP POLICY As stated earlier in the year we were looking at revisiting some of our policies for 2019. As a staff and a school board we have revisited our Camp Policy. Please find our updated version HERE Please don’t hesitate to ask questions or seek clarification if there is anything you are unsure of.
(OSHC) CAMP AUSTRALIA FEEDBACK As part of our ongoing need to ensure what’s best for our children, I am asking for some feedback in relation to our St Oliver’s Camp Australia Program that provides before and after school care for our children. Please take a few minutes to provide us and the program with some feedback to ensure we can provide quality care for those families who require this care. I will be taking this feedback to our School Board for discussion. Please click on this link to provide your feedback https://forms.gle/yv3TfCDSKeaJnBhG9
Please be reminded that due to Senior Camp there will be No Assembly this Friday afternoon. We will be welcoming back our weary campers.
Have a great week

LEARNING AND TEACHING
RECONCILIATION The parent information evening for the sacrament of Reconciliation is on Monday 13 May at
7:00 in ST classroom. The meeting is for parents only. An information pack regarding the
sacrament will be distributed on the evening.
MILK BOTTLE TOP COLLECTION
Our school families have the wonderful opportunity to make a difference to people’s lives by
collecting milk container caps and soft drink caps. No fruit juice caps are to be collected and
they need to be washed. These will be used to make prosthetic limbs. Together we will be
gathering bottle caps with a network of schools and transforming them into prosthetic hands, 3D
filament and other usable items. Each classroom has a box for the collection and there is also
one in the office area. I look forward to your support with this initiative.

LEARNING AND TEACHING
Ongoing Communication
We recognise the importance of ongoing communication and strengthening the link between home and
school. We would like to encourage you to speak with your child’s class teacher regarding curriculum,
their progress or other concerns at any stage during the school year.
If you would like to speak to your child’s teacher it is important that you arrange a time. You can drop by
the classroom to schedule a meeting time, leave a message with office staff or send an email. Teachers
are unable to meet with you on Monday and Wednesday after school due to scheduled staff meetings.
Teachers are available on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday after school.
Curriculum Overviews
This week you will receive your child’s curriculum overview that will provide an outline of the term’s focus in all curriculum areas. Please take the time to share this document with your child and discuss their learning throughout the term.
Preps Half Way Day
We are excited to be celebrating Preps 50th day of school.
The children have been eagerly waiting for this special day
and we marked the occasion with a ‘half/half day’ as they
are half way to their 100th day of school.
In the morning, the children took part in many maths
‘half’ and ‘50’ themed activities which included making
and eating a piece of fairy bread cut in half.
This is a fantastic way to get the children excited about
maths and to make a connection with real life experiences.
Earn & Learn Stickers We are taking part in the 2019 Woolworths Earn & Learn program. From now until June 25th 2019, you can collect stickers at Woolworths that go towards Earn & Learn points. These stickers can be sent to school or dropped into the collection box at the office. We will use the stickers to redeem resources for the whole school.

STEPHANIE ALEXANDER KITCHEN GARDEN
What a great way to start our new year in the SAKGP kitchen class. The students made some delicious
dishes which we all shared together. Fresh egg pasta with a silverbeet stalk, tomato sauce, zucchini
fritters and a carrot and cabbage salad were all on the menu. Delicious!! Thank you to our parents
Katia, Daniela and Stacey for your help in the kitchen!
GARDEN ADVICE! I am looking for anyone who can help me with
our ‘weed’ problem around our garden beds.
I am looking at some creative solutions to
what we could put/lay around them. If anyone
is willing to help or has some ideas please contact me on:
POTS AND PANS We have a limited number of pots and pans in our kitchen. If you have any new or near new pots and pans that you would like to donate I would love to have them for our kitchen class. Please leave them at the office. Many thanks Giulia Mazzarella
SPORT
Sports Day Unfortunately due to the forecast we were unable to go ahead with our Sports Day. Although many of us were disappointed with the cancellation, we will endeavour to select another date in Term 4 when hopefully the weather will be in our favour. I have been and will continue to conduct some Athletics trials this term in preparation for the Coburg District Athletics Day. The students who were given the opportunity for the High Jump trials thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and all students were surprised with their outstanding achievements. Senior Inter-School Sports The Winter Inter-School Sports Programme will begin on Thursday 16th of May (Week 4). Games will be played from 11:30am - 1pm. The children will be playing a five week round robin in Term Two, with students playing on a rotation basis. We are in Division 1 – Large Schools.

GENERAL NEWS
FAMILY DETAILS UPDATES
It is imperative that we have accurate student & family information, particularly home, work and mobile
numbers of both parents and emergency contacts. Please inform the office if there are any changes to
any of these details.
SUNSMART
All children are encouraged to wear their SCHOOL HAT during recess
and lunch times, as well as during physical education/sport lessons.
Children are asked to have their own sunscreen (perhaps a roll on)
should you wish for them to wear it at recess and lunchtime. School does
not provide this due to allergies that many children have with various creams.
It is important you teach your children to put on their own sunscreen when at
school.
SCHOOL FEES
A reminder to please put your surname or account number in the reference field when paying school
fees online

Thank you to all those dads who have ordered a surprise for Mother’s Day. Your order can be collected
on Sunday morning between 8.30am-11.00am from the school hall. For those that missed out on
ordering, we will have a small number of extras that can be purchased on the day. First come basis.
MOTHERS DAY
The Mother’s Day stall and raffle was once again, an amazing success. It is heart-warming to see the
children carefully considering a gift for their mum. Thank you to all the generous donors and to the
mums who helped out on the day. There were 40 prizes drawn in the raffle! Congratulations to the lucky
winners.
SCHOOL BANKING- TUESDAY
Did you know that every time your child makes 10 deposits they can redeem a reward AND the
Commonwealth Bank will give us $5.00! This is an easy way for you to support our school through fundraising
whilst your child learns about money management. The school banking program raises the school around $1500
a year, direct from the bank. The more children we have banking, the more money we raise. If you would like to
join the banking program existing Commonwealth Banking customers can sign up online, otherwise you can visit
any branch and ask to open a Dollarmite School Banking Account.
SECOND HAND UNIFORM
The next uniform stall will be on Friday 17th May at 3pm. We are also looking for volunteers to join a
roster of people to help set up once per term. If you are able to help for half an hour, please email
[email protected] and I will add you to the roster.
