1. In God’s time, peace will come. In God’s time, peace will come. We cannot wait ‘till then to build the kingdom, but in God’s time, peace will come.

7. In God’s time, the trumpet will sound, and in God’s time, we will rise. God will ask us then what we’ve done to build the kingdom, and in God’s time we will rise...

THE MOST HOLY TRINITYToday’s readings show some biblical roots of what Christians would later call the

Trinity. Proverbs showcases the role of Wisdom in the work of creation, portrayed as a reality outside of God but integrated into God’s work of forming the heavens and the earth. We join the psalmist in sharing Wisdom’s delight in God’s handiwork: “O Lord, our God, how wonderful your name in all the earth” (Psalm 8:2). In his letter to the Romans, Paul writes of peace with God through Jesus, and the love of God received through the Holy Spirit, distinguishing God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit while also displaying their abiding unity. Finally, in the farewell discourse from John’s Gospel, Jesus—who had earlier spoken of himself as Son of the Father—promises his friends that they will receive the Spirit of truth that will teach and guide them after his departure.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITIONToday’s feast, extending a dimension of Easter joy into

Ordinary Time, reminds us that every aspect of worship centers on the mystery of God in three persons. At baptism, we are initiated into Christ and the Spirit. The Creed we recite at Mass every Sunday has its roots in the ancient celebration of baptism, when a new believer was questioned at the edge of the waters of the font with three questions: Do you believe in God, the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit? Three questions, three affirmations, three immersions into the saving waters. Because every liturgy abounds with references to the Trinity, not only in words but in blessings by the sign of the cross, this feast was not easily accepted into the calendar. Pope Alexander in the eleventh century remarked that the liturgy is so laden with praise of the Trinity that there was no need for a special feast. Two hundred years later, while in exile in France, Pope John XXII proclaimed the feast, but it was not until 1911 that Pope St. Pius X gave it status as a solemnity.

A favorite image in art for today is the Icon of the Trinity, showing three glorious winged men seated at a table laden with bread and a cup of wine. It recalls Abraham’s hospitality to angels and gives expression to the inner life of God, a life lived in relationship, a life poured out in abundance whenever Christians gather at the table of the Eucharist to give praise to the Father, in Christ, in the embrace of the Spirit.

FAITH IN PROGRESS –Are you glorifying the Lord with your Life? Do you know the meaning of the liturgy? What does your prayer life look like? Are you a vessel of mercy? What are you ready to say "YES" to in answer to God's call? Join us on Sundays, in Classroom #3 in St. Michael

Hall, following the 8:00AM Mass

Where you might find answers to these questions and more.

ST. MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL CATHOLIC CHURCHTHIS IS THE HOLY TRINITY

Today we celebrate the Holy Trinity, one of the most confounding mysteries of our faith. Through this mystery we experience our relationship to God: Creator, Savior, and Holy Spirit. This relationship is not easy to understand or to describe. It does not become clearer through analysis. Its complexity mirrors the complexity of all our relationships. We understand our relationships with our spouses, our children, our parents, and our friends only through daily give-and-take, annual rituals, and the life-changing moments we share. We understand our relationships only as we live them. The relationships we have with those we love, and who love us, sustain us through an uncertain and difficult life. This is the Holy Trinity.

What is striking about today’s readings is that each is incomplete. What they do offer is a description of a moment in our relationship, a memory of a time and an event when our relationship made sense even though that sense may be beyond our ability to describe fully. Often that is all that our faith offers, that is, a memory of what is possible, what is promised, what has been given. A memory of eternity, of love beyond understanding is to be cherished and nurtured even if not fully understood. This is the Holy Trinity.

TODAY’S READINGSFirst Reading — The wisdom of God played on the surface of God’s earth, finding delight in the human race (Proverbs 8:22-31).Psalm — O Lord, our God, how wonderful you name in all the earth! (Psalm 8).Second Reading — The love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:1-15).Gospel — The Spirit of truth will guide you to all truth (John 16:12-15).

THE SPIRIT OF TRUTHThe word “trinity” occurs nowhere in scripture, but the doctrine

of the Trinity is basic to everything Christians believe. How did the church come to believe that the one God exists as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? This complicated story is an example of the church being taught by the “Spirit of truth.”

In today’s first reading we hear that Wisdom is God’s “craftsman,” helping execute God’s plan for creation. The text is not about a helper god; it is an imaginative portrayal of Wisdom being both “of God” and external to God. We could say that Wisdom is God’s self-gift poured into creation, a sign that God loves creation, delights in it, and (in Genesis chapter 1) pronounces it “good.”

This is the most colorful Biblical portrayal of something “of God” that is given to creation, but there are others. In Isaiah 55:10–11, God’s Word (like the rain and snow) is sent down from heaven to do God’s will on earth, not returning until it is accomplished. God’s Word, like Wisdom, is also linked to creation, since in Genesis chapter 1, God creates by speaking, repeating “Let there be . . .” until the work is done.

ST. MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL CATHOLIC CHURCH

The Seven Sisters Apostolate is a call to strengthen the Church by ensuring that a Holy Hour is prayed each day of the week for the sole intention of a specific priest or bishop. The initial recipient of a Seven Sisters group is their parish pastor; the intention is directed towards the office of the shepherd more than the individual. We would like to begin this prayer apostolate at St. Michael and are seeking seven women who feel called to offer the prayerful sacrifice of one Holy Hour a week on the same day each week for the sole intention of our Pastor. You can learn more about this apostolate on our website, and you can also sign up to be contacted to receive more information about joining the St. Michael group: www.stmichaelmckinney.org.

SEVEN SISTERS APOSTOLATE

Is the hierarchy perhaps free to teach what they find most to their liking on matters of religion, or what they expect will be most pleasing to the proponents of certain current views opposed to all doctrine? Certainly not! The prime duty of the episcopate is to transmit strictly and faithfully the original message of Christ, the sum total of the truths which He revealed and confided to the Apostles as necessary for salvation.

Pope Paul VI
