Fr. Jerry’s Corner – September 29, 2019 – Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Today, September 29, is the Feast of St. Michael the Archangel, our patron. He is also the patron of first responders. Angels have played an important role in Christianity in terms of personal protectors, particularly the Catholic Faith. They are characterized as tireless spiritual beings who serve God by aiding His other creations.
In Gospel of St. Luke, the archangel Gabriel delivers a message to the Virgin Mary that she has been chosen to carry the Son of God. And in the Book of Revelation (12:7-8), the archangel Michael leads the armies of God to cast down Satan’s forces to Hell.
First-responders place themselves in harm’s way to ensure the safety, security and well-being of others. The Feast of St. Michael the Archangel is a great day on which to honor the first responders of Tybee. We hope our prayers for them as Faith Community and individually will provide a sense support and comfort to those who watch out for us every day. Please take an occasional moment to pray for the first-responder of Tybee.
A Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel for First Responders
Lord, I ask you through St. Michael the Archangel, to watch over all of the men and women who so generously devote themselves to helping others. Grant them courage when afraid, wisdom when they must make quick decisions, strength when weary, and compassion in all their work. When the alarm sounds and they are called to aid both friend and stranger, let them faithfully serve you as they serve both visitors and residents of Tybee. Amen.
