Dear Frs. Sunil, Long, Members of the Parish council and Parishioners,
On behalf of the Divine Word Missionaries, I congratulate you on the 40th Anniversary of the dedication of your parish under the patronage of St. Maximilian Kolbe and the Lady whom he loved, the Blessed Virgin Mary. There is no better way to be formed into the image of Christ than to entrust ourselves to the Woman who formed Christ in her womb, the Blessed Virgin Mary.
I thank God for your 40 years of dedication and support for your community and for preparing the anniversary celebrations. May I also pay tribute to the tenacity of all former parish priests and parishioners for the pastoral energy and generosity to keep God’s love and mission alive until today. By being called the Parish of St. Maximilian Kolbe, it becomes a constant reminder that the pursuit of holiness is nothing more than obedience to the will of God in every circumstance of life.
May the faith and vibrancy of your parish bring more people to the honour and glory of the Triune God. Please rest assured of our continued support and prayers.
Yours sincerely in the Divine Word, Fr. Asaeli Rass SVD, Provincial Superior,
Divine Word Missionaries, Australia
A brief excerpt from Archbishop Mark Coleridge:
One of the greatest resources of the parish has always been its multi-cultural character. People from many parts of the world have come together at St Maximilian’s to share the life and mission born of the encounter with the Risen Lord. The parish has shown the true face of the Catholic Church, the community of disciples which transcends all cultural and ethnic boundaries. May the God who has so richly blessed the parish through these forty years continue to bless the parish in all that lies ahead.
Mark Coleridge
We welcome with
grateful hearts,
Most Rev. Mark Coleridge,
the Archbishop of Brisbane,
to our Parish.

Excerpts of Message from the Honourable Cameron Dick MP Queensland Treasurer & Minister for Infrastructure and Planning State Member for Woodridge
I am sorry I am unable to be with you to attend this morning’s important celebration mass.
2020 has been a challenging and turbulent year. Much of what we have taken for granted has been upended by the COVID 19 pandemic. Amidst the turmoil and uncertainty and devastation caused by the virus, the role of our institutions – particularly our churches – has never been more important, or more needed. Places of worship like St Maximilian Kolbe offers members of our community not just comfort but strength; not just reassurance but also hope. For forty years, the St Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church has been a beacon for Christ’s message of salvation, redemption and hope. It has also been a bacon to each of us to live up to the po-tential of our best selves. One can only begin to imagine all that has happened in this parish over the past forty years. All the masses and baptisms, the first holy communions, and the weddings and funerals. All the opti-mism and hope, remorse and forgiveness, love and loss and grief and comfort, and fulfilment. All the lives mapped out against the steadfast, resolute sanctuary and strength of this church.
I congratulate you on this important anniversary, and commend you on the service you continue to render to the people of our community!
LITURGY OF THE
WORD
First Reading:
[Isaiah 45:1, 4-6]
A reading from the prophet Isaiah.
Thus says the Lord to his anointed, to Cyrus, whom he has taken by his right hand to subdue nations before him and strip the loins of kings, to force gateways before him that their gates be closed no more:
It is for the sake of my servant Jacob, of Israel my chosen one, that I have called you by your name, conferring a title though you do not know me. I am the Lord, unrivalled; there is no other God besides me. Though you do not know me, I arm you that men [and women] may know from the rising to the setting of the sun, that apart from me, all is nothing.
This is the Word of the Lord.
All – Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm
[Psalm 95]
R: Give the Lord glory and honour.
O sing a new song to the Lord, sing to the Lord all the earth. Tell among the nations his glory and his wonders among all the peoples. (R)
The Lord is great and worthy of praise, to be feared above all gods; the gods of the heathens are naught. It was the Lord who made the heav-ens. (R)
Give the Lord, you families of peo-ples, give the Lord glory and power, give the Lord the glory of his name. Bring an offering and enter his courts. (R)
Worship the Lord in his temple. O earth, tremble before him. Proclaim to the nations: ‘God is king.’ He will judge the peoples in fairness. (R)
Second Reading:
[1 Thessalonians 1:1-5]
The beginning of the first letter of St. Paul to the Thessaloni-ans.
From Paul, Silvanus and Timo-thy, to the Church in Thessalo-nica which is in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ; wishing you grace and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
We always mention you in our prayers and thank God for you all, and constantly remember before God our Father how you have shown your faith in ac-tion, worked for love and per-severed through hope, in our Lord Jesus Christ.
We know, brothers [and sis-ters], that God loves you and that you have been chosen, because when we brought the Good News to you, it came to you not only as words, but as power and as the Holy Spirit and as utter conviction.
This is the Word of the Lord.
All – Thanks be to God.
Gospel Acclamation
[Philippians 2:15-16]
Alleluia, alleluia!
Shine on the world like bright stars; you are offering it the word of life. Alleluia, alleluia!
Gospel
[Matthew 22:15-21]
P – The Lord be with you.
All – And with your spirit.
P – A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew.
All – Glory to you, O Lord.
The Pharisees went away to work out between them how to trap Jesus in what he said. And they sent their disciples to him, together with the Herodians, to say, ‘Master, we know that you are an honest man and teach the way of God in an honest way, and that you are not afraid of anyone, because a man’s [or person’s] rank means nothing to you. Tell us your opinion, then. Is it permis-sible to pay taxes to Caesar or not?’ But Jesus was aware of their malice and replied, ‘You hypocrites! Why do you set this trap for me? Let me see the money you pay the tax with.’ They handed him a denarius and he said, ‘Whose head is this? Whose name?’ ‘Caesar’s’ they replied. He then said to them, ‘Very well, give back to Caesar what belongs to Cae-sar – and to God what belongs to God.’
P – This is the Gospel of the Lord.
All – Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
