~Parish Mission Statement~

We are the Family of St. Maurice at Resurrection Parish joined together sacramentally in Jesus Christ, sharing our skills and abilities across the

world to nourish all human hungers. We continually renew our energies by celebrating around the Table of the Lord and grow to be

more effective ministers.

in the name of Jesus. Amen.

CUSTOM-MADE FOR PRAISE

"Praised be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ." —Ephesians 1:3

Before we were created, the Lord destined us to

"praise His glory" (Eph 1:12). Our bodies are not ideal

for thinking, working, or running. Our human

limitations are obvious when we forget information,

stumble over our words, stumble over our feet, or get tired.

However, our bodies are tailor-made to praise God. From our

renewed minds (see Rm 12:2), singing tongues, praying lips,

open hearts, raised hands, to our dancing feet — we are

created to praise God always and forever.

Our greatest praise of God is Eucharistic worship. At Mass,

Jesus, the eternal High Priest, is not only the Object of our

praises but also the Leader of our praise and worship to the

Father and in the Holy Spirit. Through, with, and in Jesus we

share at Mass in the heavenly praises offered by the angels

and saints to the Holy Trinity.

In this book, One Bread, One Body, we try to help you better

understand, appreciate, and apply the readings for Mass.

Thus, you will better celebrate the Liturgy of the Word, the first

part of our praise and worship at Mass. If we are helping you

praise the Lord and worship in the Eucharist, please let us

know, for this is the purpose of our ministry.

Praise the Lord always and forever! Praise our Eucharistic

Lord!

Prayer: Father, fashion perfect praise in

my life (see Ps 8:3). "Let the high praises

of God" be in my throat (Ps 149:6).

Promise: "They went off, preaching the

need of repentance. They

expelled many demons, anointed the

sick with oil, and worked many cures." —

Mk 6:12-13

Praise: Praise You, risen Jesus! You are

"the Way, and the Truth and the Life" (Jn

14:6). Alleluia!

Archdiocesan School of Lay Ministry

Pray * Learn * Serve

What is the School of Ministry? The School of Ministry forms lay men and women who desire to grow

in their understanding of the Catholic faith and in their ability to serve

the Church. Over the course of two years, participants develop

knowledge in spirituality, theology, and pastoral ministry. Upon

completion of the certificate program, graduates find they are closer to

Jesus and are better able to serve in their parish and community.

What is the format of the program? There are two different formats. Choose the format that works best for

you.

Traditional classroom format is offered in Spanish, or

Creole. This course meets once a week for two years (summers off).

Online program is offered in English or Spanish and

incorporates 8 online courses, and in person meetings over a two-year

period of time.

What type of certificate can I receive at the end?

Catholic Studies Certificate is available to Catholics

interested in learning more about the faith who aren't certain about

their call to ministry.

All participants enjoy connecting with a community of adult believers

from parishes throughout the Archdiocese. This leads to rich

discussion, and a broader notion of Church.

Pope: ‘Tiredness of Priests!

Do You Know How Often

I Think About This?’ July Prayer Intention... Do you

know how often I think about it? Priests, with their virtues and

defects, work in many different areas. Working on so many active fronts, they cannot remain inactive

after a disappointment. At such times, it's good for them to

remember that the people love their priests, need them,

and trust in them. Let us pray together that priests,

who experience fatigue and loneliness in their pastoral work,

may find help and comfort in their intimacy with the Lord and in their

friendship with their brother priests.

The Purpose and Meaning of the Ten Commandments The purpose of the Ten Commandments is to provide stability, sanctity of life, and proper

balance between work, rest, and worship. The first three commandments establish the right relationship we need to have with God, the rest establish boundaries for right relationships

with others. Each week we will explore each of the Ten Commandments for their deeper meaning.

The Second Commandment is about Reverence

You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain. The second commandment prescribes respect for the Lord's name. Like the first commandment, it governs our use of speech in sacred matters. Promises made to others in God's name engage the divine honor, fidelity, truthfulness, and authority. To be unfaithful to them is to misuse God's name and be disrespectful to God. Ask yourself when you hear or see the use of “OMG”, is it a proper use of God’s name? God's name is holy when said with veneration and fear of offending him. We are expected always to honor who and what He is. Conversely, the use of God's name in a flippant, degrading or in any way disrespectful manner, dishonors the relationship we are supposed to have with Him. This can vary from careless disregard to hostility and antagonism. It covers misusing God's name in any way.
