Three primary schools have been affected by measles cases, with many students and staff being asked to stay away from school for two weeks. Complications from measles are reasonably common. It is very important for all children to be protected from this serious illness by having the MMR (measles mumps & rubella) immunisa- tion at 15 months and at 4 years of age. If your child (over the age of 4 years) has not had two MMR im- munisations it is important to visit your GP practice as soon as possible so they can catch-up with these immunisations. The im- munisations are FREE. All adults under 42 years of age (born since 1969) who have no record of measles immunisations and have not had measles dis- ease should receive one dose of MMR. This is also FREE. When you have updated your child’s immunisations please ask the nurse for an Immunisation Certificate. Ensure the school office has a copy of this for their records. This is very important if your school has a case of measles or other vaccine preventable dis- ease. Children with no record of immunisations at schools can be ex- cluded from school for two weeks or until an Immunisation Certifi- cate is produced. iWay Challenge A group of senior students have been selected to enter the Hastings District Council iWay Design Challenge. The purpose of the Challenge is to design something that will contribute to the iWay project by making it safer and more convenient to take any form of “active” transportation (i.e. human powered rather than the car), or which encourages more people to use the facilities available. Our school focus is going to be based around the Walking Bus that a growing number of our students are involved in. To assist with the chal-lenge the team would appreciate you completing the attached survey and returning to each class teacher by Friday 15

th July.

There will be a prize for the class who returns the most forms. —————————————————————————————
