Established in 1848, St. Mary’s Parish has been preaching the Gospel and celebrating the Sacraments in the heart of Glens Falls for over a century and a half. Yes, that’s right! We want you to bring your phone or tablet to Masses next weekend! And you won’t have to shut them off, either! Do you know why? Well, we are going to devote some of the homily-time next weekend to helping those at our Masses to download our new parish app, to “like us” on our parish Facebook page, and to

show you how to download the new adult faith development resource called “FORMED” which we have recently subscribed to. (Of course, you are free not to download any of these new resources.) However, should you choose, we’re here to help you download them quickly and easily next weekend. Whether we like it or not, Amer-icans are turning to apps and Facebook more and more for information and networking. Our parish needs to be involved in these new venues so that our schedules, events and news are readily available to parishioners who use them. We were blessed that the Knights of Columbus have donated the fee for a parish subscription to FORMED,

PARKING IN OUR RECTORY LOT? We have been notified by the law firm of FitzGerald Morris Baker

and Firth who have purchased the building at 68 Warren Street, formerly the headquarters of Genpack, LLC,

about the fact that within the next few weeks, their contractor will begin the process of demolition and renovation

of the interior of the building, along with the installation of new HVAC equipment on the roof. The work re-

quired several debris receptacles, contractor vehicles, and possibly storage units to occupy space in the parking

lot. In light of this, the company asks that we advise our visitors and parishioners NOT TO PARK in the 68 War-

ren Street lot. The work will go on for six to seven months. (That lot is chained off from entry and egress from

our rectory parking lot by them so that there will no longer be drive-through ability.)

Jewish-Catholic Event On Thursday, April 26, at 7:00 PM, the Jewish-Dialogue Committee, the Jewish

Federation of Northeastern NY, and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany, will be co-sponsoring a special inter

-faith event at the American Italian Heritage Association and Museum, 227 Central Ave., Albany, entitled

“Saving the Family Sarano”. It is free and open to the public. The screening of the film ‘I1 Giardino Dei

Giusti” (the “Garden of the Righteous”) will be included followed by a presentation by La Rabinessa Liora Kel-

man who will share her family history of survival during the Holocaust. The Sarano family of Milan were saved

by Italian Gentiles who risked their lives saving Italian Jews. For further information go to:

Catholic Young Adult COOKOUT Open to college students, and attendees in their 20’s and 30’s, join us

St. Mary’s and St. Alphonsus Cemeteries Re-opened April 13 Christmas decorations should be removed by May 1st so that the cemetery can be cleared and prepared for Mother’s Day. The water in the cemeteries is scheduled to be turned on by May 11.

SMSA News

Congratulations to the 7th and 8th Grade Odyssey of the Mind competitors. They won first place in the local competition and will go on to compete in the State Championships in Binghamton, NY. Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that pro-vides creative problem-solving opportunities for stu-dents from kindergarten through college. Team mem-bers apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics.

Our STREAM Lab is finally ready for use! Mrs. Ilowiecki was the first instructor to hold class in the Lab. Many middle school students gave up a portion of their lunch to be the first students to create a project in the Lab. They began constructing crate seats for the Noah’s Ark through 2nd grade students to use while working in the lab. During this lesson students used math, problem solving, and collaborating skills as they worked together to build the seats.

SMSA held our annual fundraiser Auction on March 17th. It was a very successful evening. Not only did we

raise much needed dollars for the school, we had a re-ally nice time. It was an evening filled with laughter, dancing, bidding and a little bit of shenanigans! Thank you to all who volunteered and attended!

Acts 11:1-18; Ps 42; Jn 10:1-10 I am the gate for the sheep. References to sheep and shepherds are abundant in Scripture, stirring gentle images of a watchful caretaker protect-ing lost and vulnerable creatures. Jesus, however, first references him-

self not as shepherd but as the gate. In its historical con-text, this is an unsettling image of a one-way journey to impending slaughter. Lambs for Passover and sheep about to be sacrificed within the temple courts — to atone for the sins of humanity — entered the city of Jerusalem through the Sheep Gate located north of the Temple Mount. They did not exit. Jesus, however, presents himself as the way out. In order for the sheep to be saved and to find pasture, they must pass through a different gate — him. His provid-ing an alternate gate serves not as a barrier, but as a pas-sageway. Only after guiding his sheep to safety does he take for himself the designation of shepherd. Watchful Shepherd, forgive me when I stray from your protective embrace. Tuesday, April 24, 2018

Acts 11:19-26; Ps 87; Jn 10:22-30 But you do not believe, because you are not among my sheep. The people ask Jesus to speak plainly, but he can’t be any clearer. If you know the Father, Jesus argues, then you should know him. Those who listen to Jesus hear the Fa-ther as well. His works testify to the Father as he comes from God. The sheep who know the Father’s voice will follow Jesus because he and the Father speak in exactly the same way. There’s an undeniable familiarity. Knowing the Father and listening to him automatically compel the faith-ful to hear and follow Jesus. It stands to reason, then, that those who do not hear the Father’s voice in Jesus are unac-customed to sound of God’s call. Not accepting Jesus means those who aren’t able to hear in Jesus’ voice the Father’s call never really knew the Father or, more likely, have stopped listening. Open my ears and my heart, gentle Shepherd, to hear and follow the Father’s call. Wednesday, April 25, 2018 1 Pt 5:5b-14; Ps 89; Mk 16:15-20 St. Mark, evangelist "Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature.” The church is missionary by nature. The Second Vatican Council called the church’s missionary mandate its “essential task.” In 1919, Pope Benedict XV sought a missionary approach free from colonial, nationalistic and expansionistic aims, proclaiming, “The Church of God is universal; she is not alien to any people.” On World Mis-sion Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017, Pope Francis sent a Letter for the Centenary of the promulgation of the Apostolic Letter “Maximum illud” calling for an Extraordinary Missionary Month in October 2019 to increase awareness of the “missio ad gentes”—the call to go out to the nations —

“with prophetic spirit and evangelical boldness, to God’s saving will through the Church’s universal mission.” As St. John Paul II stated, “The mission of Christ the Redeem-er, which is entrusted to the Church, is still very far from completion.” Send forth your church, O Lord, with a re-newed missionary spirit.

Acts 13:13-25; Ps 89; Jn 13:16-20

These are now his witnesses before the people. Seemingly unbelievable claims are met with a demand for proof. The apostles serve as the living message, bearing witness to the resurrection in the very place Jesus was cru-cified. As his closest companions throughout his public ministry, they traveled with him. They knew him intimate-ly. Now their presence and testimony provide validity to Jesus’ triumph over death and continuity to his teachings. There’s an assurance of fidelity to Jesus’ message because they were there. It was a lived, personal encounter. They came face to face with the resurrected Christ whom they knew well. There’s no mistaking his identity. It’s from them that we receive and pass on proof. Their experience of seeing, talking and embracing the Savior confirms that the Lord Jesus, indeed, rose from the dead. Risen Savior, give me the courage to profess the faith so that others may see you in my witness and know that I am yours. Friday, April 27, 2018

Acts 13:26-33; Ps 2; Jn 14:1-6 “I am the way and the truth and the life.”

Jesus promises his disciples a special place prepared for them in his Father’s house. As one community of the church, experiencing Christ’s presence in every gathering, we, too, already have a place prepared for us in the church. Salvation comes from Christ — he is the one path. He communicates grace, truth and salvation to us most fully through the church that he instituted. Our salvation is not merely personal; it hinges on relationship. God desires to save everyone through communion with him and each oth-er. The church is central to the Father’s plan to unite and save us. By sending his son to proclaim and usher in the kingdom of God, the Father calls us to become his people. We enter into relationship with him and each other uniquely through Jesus’ sacrifice in the celebration of the Eucharist that confers grace and increases our unity as one people of God seeking the truth. Loving Savior, help me respond to your call to follow you, to build relationships, and to go into the world boldly sharing your truth. Saturday, April 28, 2018Acts 13:44-52; Ps 98; Jn 14:7-

14 "Have I been with you for so long a time and you still do not know me, Philip?” Jesus is keenly aware of how much time he has spent with Philip and the other apostles. What is not as obvious is the depth of relationship and un-derstanding they have achieved. We often have social, superficial relationships with people without truly gaining an intimate perspective of their fears or desires. What Je-sus really wants to know is if Philip and the others have paid attention. He tries to determine what the disciples will take away from their time together and how they feel about what lies ahead. Jesus needs to know if they truly understand his oneness with the Father. If so, then he can be assured that they have taken his earthly life and purpose to heart and are conscious of his part in the Father’s mis-sion and their role in continuing it. We must ask ourselves

The Liturgy of the Word this weekend: We continue our celebration of the Lord’s resurrection with some familiar images of him that can give us comfort. First, Peter uses the words of the psalmist in describing Jesus as the stone initially rejected by the builders that then became the cornerstone. Then John writes that Jesus called himself the Good Shepherd, the one who lays down his life for his sheep. Let us reflect on how Jesus, who died for us, can be the cornerstone of our lives.
