How to Make a Spiritual Act of Communion
Comments from Deacon Dale Brown The road to Emmaus is or at least should be a very familiar story. These two men returning to their homes
were disappointed that Christ was not the great redeemer
of Israel that they had in mind. And the cross had scared
them. They had given up on Christ because of the cross. And they were walking away. They simply could not
understand how the cross, the tragedy of Good Friday
could lead them to salvation. Then the stranger appears. He walks along with them, talking to them about the
Scriptures, the promises and revelations found in the
Word of God. And it started a little smoldering of fire in their hearts. That smoldering of flame leapt up in their
hearts when Jesus broke bread at the table with them. We
also can sometimes let fear and temptation creep into our
hearts and lives. We also face our cross every day of our lives. Do we let fear turn us away? Sometimes we do.
We all know people who have left the Church like the
two on the road to Emmaus, because the Cross crushed their hope and they became angry with the Church. So,
what will prevent us from leaving during these days?
What will keep the flame alive in us when we cannot gather around the table of the Lord? The same thing that
saved these two disciples... Conversation with Jesus…
Prayer! And even though it is not the same as being in
Church to receive Christ in the Eucharist, watching the live-stream of Mass is true prayer and does keep us
connected. Prayer is the source of light and strength for
all Christians. When we unburden our minds to the Lord, and read and reflect on the Scriptures, we give time to
Jesus to explain things to our heart that will keep us from
walking away!

April 26th – May 2nd
April 29: Feast Day of St. Catherine of Siena
A laywoman, born in Siena, Italy, canonized in 1461,
associated with the Dominican Order. She was a mystic, activist & author who was influential in the political and
religious affairs of the Church. She is one of only four
women who were named Doctor of the Church. She is
the patron saint of Europe, including Italy. (1347-1380).
The Church dedicates the month of MAY to honor
the BLESSED VIRGIN MARY as queen of MAY. In
normal times, Catholic churches and schools have a
MAY CROWNING.
MAY 1: MAY DAY
has many meanings & traditions:
-Feast day of St. Joseph the Worker, celebrating the Church’s commitment to the dignity of labor.
-An ancient festival celebrating the return of Spring.
-The INTERNATIONAL WORKERS’ DAY, honoring those who fought for the 8-hour working day.
-The word MAYDAY is used to make a distress call via
radio.
MAY 2: Feast Day of St. Athanasius:
First person to identify the 27 books of the New Testa-
ment in use today.
Notable Quotable “All hail to you, our dear MARY, the guardian of our
way…..” (From the hymn TIS THE MONTH OF OUR MOTHER – A 1912 hymn by Louis Lambillotte, a Belgian
Jesuit & composer of church music – 1796-1855)

PRAYER FOR PREGNANT MOTHERS:
Dear Father, we ask you to protect the little babies who are being knit together in their mothers’ wombs.
Comfort their mothers and fathers during the time that they are growing and developing. Lord Jesus, give these smallest of persons the strength to come into this world,
to fully participate in your creation. Send your Holy Spirit to infuse their souls with love for you. After long, healthy, and loving lives, bring them
safely home to your heavenly kingdom. Amen.

Bishop Talley’s
Prayer & Devotion Plan
During this season of precaution & social distancing
(due to the Covid-19 virus), family engagement in
faith formation is more vital than ever.
For that purpose, Bishop David Talley has asked all of
us, whether we are families of one or eleven, to pray
together daily.
A weekly packet with his direction for prayer devo-
tions throughout the week can be found at the link be-
low:
https://stmarys.tn.org/
faithformation/faithfamily/
“So, do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you
and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isiah 41:10.
The Angelus Bishop David has asked us to pray it while we are go-
ing through this time without the Holy Mass.
Traditionally,
The Angelus is prayed at
6am, 12pm, & 6pm, but
there is no rule it cannot
be prayed at other times.
You can find The Angelus at this website:
https://www.ourcatholicprayers.com/the-
angelus.html
Don’t forget about
Word on Fire Engage! Engage gives us access to all
of Bishop Barron's great content
& it will be emailed (or texted) right to you!
