Dear parishioners and friends, We continue our journey as disciples of Jesus who are called to live the Beatitudes in every action we take throughout the day and every day. Certainly, at times we don’t seem to know in which direction to look – the events of these past days have created a lot of confusion in the minds and hearts of many of us: what are we supposed to do? Respond to fear or to love? Does prudence invites us to close ourselves from the needs of others, or does it challenge us to be creative in the ways we approach and see the needs of those who live around us? I believe that the words of Jesus are powerful enough to come into our hearts and make see things from His point of view. For this reason, we must, now more than ever, anchor ourselves to the Gospel and let It shape our minds. Only when we let the Gospel form and inform our thoughts we can have the “mindset of Christ” (phil 2:5). Only in this way we would be able to change the world around us by becoming salt of the earth and light of the world. With the two images, which we hear today in the Gospel, salt and light, Jesus wants to emphasize the need and the indispensability of the gospel, of the Twelve, and of the Christian community. If these fail or do not achieve their mission, it cannot be replaced by anyone or anything, and it is no longer good for anything, like the tasteless salt and the hidden light. It is the group of disciples, the Christian community –

the Church in her fullness – to be the salt of the

earth and light of the world; certainly not for her own

sake, but because she “has” Jesus, the true light of

the world, true bread of life, unique and irreplaceable

reality.

To the extent that Jesus is present in the life of the each Christian believer and in the midst of the Chris-tian community He can continue to act and become the vital “turmoil” in the world, the truth that enlightens and saves. Being “salt and light” is lived in the context of everyday life where the concrete and practical action of each believer takes its flavorful and enlightening role in order to transform one’s family, workplace and every place and relationship we live throughout the day.

It is through our words and action that the pres-

ence of the Lord is made visible to the eyes of oth-

ers who long to have the same happiness and bless-

edness we have received by Christ. May our week be

filled with salty and bright actions that witness to all

people that God’s love is available to all people.

We welcome the members of MBS – Most Blessed Sacra-ment School – who are inviting us to participate to a won-derful event: Casino Night. More information in the bulletin. Have you considered ministering in our parish as an Ex-traordinary Minister of Holy Communion at the Liturgy? If so, or if you are interested in knowing more about it, do not hesitate to contact our office. A new class will be held soon. Next weekend: Parish Breakfast. All are welcome.

Sharing the Gospel

When you love God, and you follow his example, it will

show. You will be loving, patient, and kind. You will be hon-

est and always do your best. You will work hard and share

what you have. When you live for God, you make the world

a better place.

Prayer

God, help me to make a difference in the world because I

love you.

Something to Draw

Draw a picture of yourself patiently helping a younger child

play ball.

Mission for the Week

Do a taste-test with boiled eggs. Eat one bit plain. Eat the

rest seasoned with salt. The salt makes a big difference.

Your love for God should make a big difference in the

world, too.
