Memorial Day: God Bless America! As our nation celebrates Memorial Day, we honor all of our service men and women. Thank you for your service to our country. We remember you in our

prayers, as well your comrades, who gave the ultimate sacrifice of their life for our freedom.

Mother’s Day Rose Sale Thank you to everyone who purchased roses in honor of Mother’s Day to say thank you for the

gift of life. We raised over $300.00 from the sale which will be donated to the Women’s Care Center in Madison, Clarity Clinic in Platteville and Diocesan Respect life activities. Thank you to everyone who works to make sure that every life is valued, cherishes and supported. Sharing Our Blessings Thank you to everyone who supports our parishes with their time, talents and financial support! May God continue to bless you for your generosity and kindness. Please pray for the financial health of our parishes and that all members will generously share the many blessings that God has given them with our parishes.

Fr. John’s Notes Memorial Day-Today & Every Day On Monday our nation will again remember all who have sacrificed their lives for our nation in military service. We should remember in pray all who died in

service to our nation in: War of Independence The War of 1812 The Civil War WWI WWII The Korean Conflict The Vietnam War Iraq War Conflict in Afghanistan We see how each generation of Americans has been asked to serve our nation in military service and some have sacrificed their lives for us. Many we pray for all of them on this Memorial Day.

Guidelines for the Resumption of Public Masses So many of you have expressed your longing to come to Mass again and receive the Holy Eucharist. With the guidance of the Diocese of Madison and adapting to our church buildings and community these are some of the procedures and policies we will follow during this trying time. 1. Since there is a restriction on the number who can attend each Mass because of social distancing and since some are much more vulnerable to the virus Bishop Hying is dispensing the Sunday Mass obligation through at least the end of June. 2. We will try to maintain social distancing of six feet between persons who are not living in the same household. To accomplish this we ask you to follow these procedures. *We ask you to use every other pew as designated. A larger family can use a whole pew and smaller families and individuals should locate themselves toward the end of the designated pew. *For the distribution of communion, I will direct one side to come up for communion and then the other side, always keeping social distance. During this phase of return-ing to public Mass, I will be one only one distributing Holy Communion. *Ushers will be available to provide guidance in each church. *Bulletins will only be available to be picked up after Mass. *Since I will be having the five Masses each week-end, I encourage some of you to attend Mass at Glen Haven on Saturday evening since it normally has significant extra space on an average weekend. *Please respect the need that other people have for social distance since they may be more vulnerable to the effects of the virus, but desire to receive the sacrament.

SAINT PHILIP NERI (1515-1595) May 26 In a shop near the Vatican, a group of Americans laughed as the shopkeeper showed off his fluent English and latest souvenir, a key ring whose papal portrait, when pressed, activat-ed a recorded blessing. Through the shop window, two clerics scowled disapproval. The shopkeeper grunted, “They’re a very somber order who’ve left the Church. I recognize them.” “By their long robes?” an American asked. “Many in Rome wear robes,” replied the shopkeeper. “It’s their long faces!” When Philip Neri arrived in sixteenth-century Rome, there was reason to be somber. Swiss Guards had been massacred on Saint Peter’s steps defending the pope. Parts of Europe were abandoning the Church. But Philip resolved to be an “apostle of joy,” drawing especially the young to Christ—and frequent con-fession and Communion—by his sincere interest in their prob-lems, prayerful example, and gentle humor. His “Oratory,” a movement as well as a place, provided recreation and devotion in a joyful atmosphere of companionship, service, and liturgy. Philip Neri challenges each of us to begin improving Church and world by changing ourselves with unfailing joy. —Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Reflection “I am praying for them…” (John 17:9) Prayer is the foundation of our Faith and the foundation of Stewardship. Pray in good times and in bad. Prayer is always the first best option in any situation, not just the last re-sort. Pray for friends and family and for those that don’t treat you very well. Pray to give praise, to thank, and to ask God for help. Pray to see what God wants you to do with the gifts He has given you.

HUMILITY Humility is a virtue we don’t see much in our times. It seems that bragging, swaggering, and arrogance dominate our fashion for everything and our Internet conversations. Who hasn’t been irritated by the “trolls” who try (usually with bad grammar and poor spelling) to start an online fight with those whose opinions do not align with theirs?    Our stores, catalogs, and online shopping sites are full of useless items geared in use and price to the very rich, as             ordinary, useful things seem to fade off the sales scene. As the rich get richer, the poor get poorer and the middle class is               fading away. What is the antidote to this? Humility is a good place to start. Devotion to God is worth more than riches. “The father of orphans and the defender of widows is God in his holy dwelling. God gives a home to the forsaken; [God] leads forth prisoners to prosperity.”        Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co

Cemetery Donations Requested We are again asking for donations for the St Charles and St Mary's Settlement Cemetery. If you would like to give a donation, please put it in an envelope marked with the cemetery of your choice and put it in the collection. You can also mail it to: St Charles Parish, 521 Dewey St., Cassville, WI 53806.

St. Charles Church Restoration This week at St. Charles Church, the work to paint, varnish, and redecorate the beautiful, original reredos is continuing. Also beautiful designs are being applied to the church ceiling and around the windows.

St. Charles CCW News Sacred Heart Statue Restoration Project Dear ladies, With the challenges that we currently face, our sum-mer CCW fundraisers might have to be put hold or they may not be able to happen at all. As a CCW we still want to move forward doing good deeds for our church and community. With Father John’s approval and our CCW Leadership Team, we would like to raise funds to have the Sacred Heart statue restored. The cost of this project is around $900. Originally the statue was donated by Mary Ginter in memory of her parents. We will safeguard the engraved plate on the statue. The restoration of the statue will be in honor of Father Bill Seipp. During May and June, we would like to raise funds for this project. Here’s the plan: By calculating the cost to make pies and cookies for bake sales and events, each of us can arrive at a cash donation for this restoration. We hope you are interested in being a significant part of this CCW project. Checks can be made payable to St. Charles CCW. We prefer that your donation is sent by mail to: Bev Klauer, CCW Treasurer, Box 442, Cassville, WI 53806 We will keep you informed as to the amount collected at the end of June. Any amount over the expected cost would be designated for future charitable endeavors. If you have questions about the restoration of the Sacred Heart statue, please call Susan Kremer (725-5961).

St. Charles School News Congratulations to our 8th Grade graduates Irelyn Brinkman, Heath Rauch, and Eli Adams.

If you are interested in sending your children to St. Charles please contact us for a school visit.

The Ascension of the Lord May 24, 2020

Celebrate Life

Jesus prayed on the night before he died, "Father, give me the glory I had with you before the world

began." How is the glory he has in the Ascension different from the glory he had "before the world began?" It differs only in that now, he has it in a human nature. Our humanity has been taken to the heights of heaven, fulfilling the destiny God intended for human life from the beginning. Revelation 3:21 declares, "To the one who gains the victory, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne." God’s plan for us is not just that we will gather around the throne or fall down before the throne, but that we will sit with him on the throne! This hope extended to the human family by the Gospel is directly contradicted when the same human beings destined for the heights of heaven are attacked by violence, degraded in their dignity, or put to death by things like abortion. The human nature Jesus brings to glory in the Ascension is the same human nature you and I share, and the same human nature that the babies in the womb share. Celebrating the Ascension in daily life means treating each human life as one destined to sit with Christ on his throne.   ‐ Priests for Life website

Seventh Sunday of Easter After Jesus ascended to his Father in heaven, the first thing that his disciples did was to gather together and pray. His mother, his family, his apostles, his other apostles: “All these devoted themselves with one accord to prayer.” Nearly two thousand years later, we gather together with one accord to pray as well. Listening to today’s readings, let us note the im-portance of prayer for Jesus and those he left behind.
