HOLY DAY
MASS SCHEDULE

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 1

8:30am & 7:00pm
Anointing of the Sick
THIS Friday, November 1

The celebration of the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is
intended for anyone who is seriously impaired by sickness,
chronic illness, old age, addictions, or emotional problems
and for those who are about to undergo surgery, serious
medical testing or be admitted to the hospital. You do not
need to receive the sacrament every month, only when your medical condition
changes drastically. The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick takes place monthly
at St. Mary, Cause of Our Joy. It will be this Friday, November 1 beginning with
the celebration of the 8:30am All Saints Day Mass.

To make arrangements to celebrate the sacrament at other times, please contact
our parish office. Patients in hospitals and residents in nursing homes can be
anointed if they did not celebrate the sacrament prior to admission. They or their
family members should contact the institution’s Catholic chaplain to make
similar arrangements, or call the parish office.
MEMORIAL MASS
Sunday, November 3 at 10 a.m.
       Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there; I do not sleep
I am the smile of sunshine in the day;
I am the inner voice that leads the way.
I am the memories that calm the night;
I am the spirit that continues the fight.

November is a time to reflect on the past year and remember our friends
and family who have gone to their eternal rest. Our tradition is to have a
Memorial Mass as part of this remembrance. At this Mass, all the crosses
that were placed on our wall of Remembrance, will be returned
to families to take home.
Please join us for this special Mass and reception in our social hall.

NOTES FROM PAUL...

We would like to thank
everyone who supported
our Trunk or Treat event
this Saturday. Whether
you donated candy for the
event or were physically there,
everyone's efforts are needed to make an
event like this possible. I think most of
you realize that I am writing this before
the Trunk or Treat, but we are expecting
many of the families who show up for
Trunk or Treat will not be from our
parish. We hope they find our
hospitality, candy and information about
our programs positive enough that they
will consider coming again for other
events, and maybe even to worship with
us someday. Whether or not you had a
chance to help with this event, I would
ask that you remember these families in
your prayers in a special way this
weekend. Maybe think of this as one last
"treat" that we can provide.

Greetings and Salutations,
In today’s Gospel we hear again about prayer. We hear a
parable about a Pharisee and a tax collector. In truth, it is
human nature to compare ourselves with others. It is
easier to focus on the ways in which we are “better” than
others than to attend to our own flaws. In fixating on the
flaws of others, the Pharisee, blinds himself to his own sins
and they become obstacles to his relationship with God.
The tax collector however, confesses his sins and begs for
the mercy of God. He humbles himself to the Lord God
with fear and trembling fully aware of his own sin, God
exalt him in return. This parable is
a great example of the way of the
Lord. Why should we avoid
comparing ourselves to others?
How can comparisons be a hurdle
to holiness?
Have a great week everyone!
What is a pumpkin’s favorite sport? Squash
Bonus laughs…Which ghost is the best dancer? The Boogie Man.
What is a ghost’s favorite room in a house? The living room.
I’m going to miss these Halloween jokes! LOL!
Peace and good things,
Sabrina Queen

Each of us in the Catholic faith community has a responsibility to reduce
error, avoid schism, and promote ecclesiastical communion. To that end,
the Archdiocese of Detroit shares the following information about a
group operating in Detroit and elsewhere called “Fraternite Notre Dame,”
which presents itself as a traditional Catholic religious order of priests,
friars, and religious sisters.

Fraternite Notre Dame entered the Archdiocese of Detroit in 2018
without the permission of Archbishop Vigneron. As you may know, valid Catholic
religious orders may not enter a diocese without the permission of the local bishop.

The group bought the former Most Holy Name of Jesus church building on Van Dyke
Avenue on the eastside of Detroit. Most Holy Name of Jesus Church is no longer a
church according to the Church’s law; it was closed in 1990 and deconsecrated,
meaning it would no longer serve as a sacred space for Catholic worship. The
building was sold to another religious group, which later sold the property to
Fraternite Notre Dame.

Fraternite Notre Dame represents itself as being in full communion with the Catholic
Church and asserts that it has a Cardinalliaison assigned to the group by the Vatican.
Despite the Archdiocese of Detroit’s multiple requests for confirmation or
clarification, the group has not presented anything to support these claims.

In the interest of truth and to avoid confusion among the faithful, we must clarify that,
as best we are able to tell, Fraternite Notre Dame is not an organization in
ecclesiastical communion with the Catholic Church. Catholics are advised to avoid
association with this group.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter. Let us pray that God will bring
all Christian communities into full communion with the Roman Catholic Church, so
that we may all be one. (cf. John 17:21).
Last weekend was the liturgical celebration of World Mission Sunday.
Thank you to all those who have generously donated already. It is
not too late to give to this important collection.

People ask at times, “Where does the money collected on World
Mission Sunday go?” This collection, the responsibility of the local
office of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, is taken in every
parish throughout the world on this day designated by our Holy
Father. Then the results of this collection are sent to the National Office of the Society
in each of these countries.

Then notices are sent to the local Bishop in each of the 1,200 missionary dioceses
throughout the world of the results of this collection and the amounts of grants
available to him. Then the Bishop requests information from the local parishes in these
dioceses what their needs are.

While this is being done, nine percent of the funds are sent to the Catholic Near East
Association to aid schools and clinics run by the Catholic Sisters in the Middle East
where the Christian population is so small.
