30, The RidgewayDear friends,
You may well have heard by now that the Rev’d Barry Oakley, sometime Vicarof All Saints’ Edmonton, and a great supporter, member and retired assistant priest to this parish, died on Saturday 12th August. We send our love to Margaret and jenny and Chris, and remember Barry with gratitude and great affection. The Prayer and Care group are especially indebted to Barry, as he began the Healing Team out of which they evolved. Others will remember Barry and Margaret on our Chinese trip back in 2008; also the sermon he preached on the fiftieth anniversary of his ordination, and numerous other occasions on which he covered Sunday services.
It will be an honour and a privilege to hold Barry’s funeral at St Mary Magdalene’s, on TUESDAY 5th SEPTEMBER at 2pm (and a reception at Bush Hill Park Golf Club afterwards.
With love to you all,
Gordon

NEWS FROM THE HOME GROUP
Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you for supporting our opportunity athosting August’s Coffee Morning! Following some enthusiastic sprucing upbefore the event, I’m now ahead with Christmas cleaning preparations andhappy to be ahead with anything! Receiving a few apologies, missed you guys, accompanied by grateful donations, which included some from neighbourswhom Dawn took the time to invite. Our eclectic and colourful mix of, rescued, online auction won, charity shop bargains and gifts of garden chairs andcushions assembled and ready, no matter the preparations, would we even beusing the garden?
Having kept an eagle eye all morning on the lawn, Joon our neighbour’svisiting eleven-and-a-half year old Shih Tzu produced the “necessary”, as Ritawill testify, moments before welcoming our first guests. Resembling moreclosely a Star Wars teddy-bear-like Ewok than the Griffon Bruxellois GeorgeLucas based them upon (in our opinion). Lovely to look at, delightful toknow, her settled temperament reminds me of the peaceful rough haired GoldenRetriever I grew up with “Salome Sam”, “Sandy” for short; one of elevencanine companions I’ve had the pleasure of and blessing Dawn with her missedcanine fix. Unperturbed by events, Joon proceeded to demonstrate heradeptness at social etiquette, by nonchalantly lying at everyone’s feet in turn.
As Rita took the reins in the kitchen, I was released to host. God graciouslyblessed all twenty three of us, including our direct neighbours, withwonderfully clement weather. Save for one cloud insistent upon depositing afew drops, then for some amusing moments brollies went up, joining thecolourful bunting’s parade.
A plethora of raffle prizes, bring-and-buy, scones with jam and clotted cream,Rita’s cake and a selection of gluten-free, added to the enjoyment of this socialand fund raising occasion. The new bargain priced swinging seat, only puttogether by Ken and tested by myself and Dawn the day before, was also acomfortable and popular attraction. Our fun in the sun raising a stunning£197.80 (including gift aid) for the organ.Musing aloud “The things we do for love”, Ken’s slick response was “10cc”(1977!). God bless. Love Laura, Ken and Dawn.
