Becoming Catholic Our First Informal Gathering

On Wednesday, August 29, nine adults who are thinking about becoming Catholic met with the St. Mary RCIA team at the Office Coffee Shop in Royal Oak. These nine adults are testing the waters and asking questions about the Catholic faith.

These individuals are in a period of inquiry. There are no commitments or promises made. The adults are ex-ploring their interest in Catholicism. They are following Jesus. On Sunday, September 9, these inquirers will gather af-ter the 9 a.m. Mass and discuss What is Faith? They will recognize faith as a free gift that builds our under-standing of God’s love. Faith, science, and reason coex-ist and our faith grows when we nurture and share it. Please pray for these men and women who are inquiring about becoming Catholic. May God protect them and continue to bless them. Christine Wagberg Pastoral Associate

Congratulations The following children

were baptized the weekend of September 8/9:

Anastasia Clare, Autumn

Moxie, and Nicholas David.

God our creator, cherish these children. Jesus, our savior, protect them. Holy Spirit, our

comforter, strengthen them. Mary, our heavenly Mother, guide them. May the Lord Jesus, who loved all children, bless them and keep them in

His love, now and forever. Amen!

Enter to learn… Go Forth to Serve

Registrations have been coming in fast and we are preparing to order our books and materials. If you have-n’t done so already, please register your children to insure they receive their Faith Formation book at the first class. For Levels 1 thru 6, classes will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 25th.

Levels 7 & 8 will attend their first Faith Formation class on Wednesday, Oct. 3rd. Forms can be picked up in the Faith Formation office or downloaded from the St. Mary Faith Formation webpage under the forms tab at https://www.stmaryroyaloak.com/copy-of-workship-ministries.

Due to transitions and relocations we are looking for several new catechists for levels 1 thru 6. We need cate-chists in both the 4:30 pm to 5:45 pm slot and the 6:00 pm to 7:15 pm slot. If you are interested in this volunteer op-portunity, please contact Donna Trudell in the Faith For-mation Office at (248)547-1810 ext. 207 or [email protected].

God Bless! Donna Trudell, Director of Faith Formation

Moms & Tots Gatherings Our Moms & Tots Group has resumed their bi-monthly meetings. The next meeting will be on Friday, September 21 @ 9:30 am in the Fellowship Center. You are welcome to just show up, but if you would like additional information, please call Moms & Tots Coordinator, Mary Jiovani at 248-904-0861. We are still looking for some helping hands to watch some of the children, while the moms are meeting (you would be in the Fellowship Center with the moms). Spending a little time reading a story, helping with a fun game or craft project would really give the moms an opportunity to listen and participate in the group presentations and discussions. Please prayerfully consider giving approximately 45 minutes of your time once or twice a month to help these moms out.

CHRISTIAN SERVICE TOPICS AND EVENTS

“Whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.“ (Matthew 25:40)

Greetings Everyone, I have been back to work for a week and I cannot believe how empty some of our food pantry shelves look. My volunteers tell me we had a lot of hungry guests this past week. I certainly believe it. On another topic, we have lots of activity happening in Christian Service. September and October are very busy months. If you are looking for something to do, please attend one or two of the events discussed on this page, or give me a call at the Parish Office on extension 205. We will discuss what interests you more. If you are looking to help with something, God bless you. Your Christian Service Coordinator, George Krinke

2018 Natural Family Planning Support & Education Series: Deeper Reflections

September 25th at Sacred Heart Major Seminary – Proclaiming the Nobility of Marriage and the Family

“Knowing that marriage and the family constitute one of the most precious of human values, the Church wishes to speak and offer her help to those who are already aware of the value of marriage and the family and seek to live it faithfully, to those who are un-certain and anxious and searching for the truth, and to those who are unjustly impeded from living freely their family lives. Sup-porting the first, illuminating the second and assisting the others, the Church offers her services to every person who wonders about the destiny of marriage and the family.” These words from Pope St. John Paul II’s apostolic exhorta-tion, Familiaris Consortio, set the stage for a beautiful and uplift-ing discovery of “the beauty and grandeur of the vocation to love and the service of life.” Join us as we explore the chap-ter Proclaiming the Nobility of Marriage and the Family.
