How disappointedtheymusthavebeenwithJesus!TheyhadhighexpectationsoftheirgoodFriend:hecouldhealothers,hecertainlywouldhealLazaruswhomhe lovedsomuch thatwhenhewent tothetombwhereLazarushadbeenlaid,Jesuswept.However,Martha and Mary’s expectation, hope, desire that theirbrother would be healed by their Friend was actually tooshortsighted. Jesus intended something way beyond theirexperience, their imagination, their limitedunderstandingofhim and his power. Jesus intended a new revelation abouthimself. And a new revelation about themselves. Jesuspurposely had delayed for two days coming to Bethany.Arriving after Lazaruswasdead four days, Jesus could thenreveal that death is necessary, but not the end.
