Gen- erous giſts from parishioners like you provide the financial support that is needed to connue our mission. Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Peace of Christ! When Pope John the XXIII opened Vacan II Council, he said, “that the task of the Council must be to find ways which the Church can present itself to the world today and can reach into the hearts of men” and women. This is what God the Father wanted from the Hebrews and what Jesus wanted from his original disciples. What is most important in our spiritual life? The most important is the love in our hearts that movates us to what do what we do. We go to Mass and we pray to God because we love Him so much. We give char- ity to those in need because we love them. If our hearts are filled with bierness and pride, then all these external acts won’t make us holy before God and to enter His Kingdom. Let us do what St. James in our second reading says. St. James echoes that the word of God to us is a great giſt given to us from on high and has the power to save us if we welcome it and allow it to take root in our hearts. St. James makes it clear that the true response to God’s word is to show love for others, especially for the poor and the needy. I would like to thank all Parish Council members and all good-hearted Parishioners who helped and made the sacrifice of their me, energy and talents for their great love for our Parish at the Parish Picnic. It was a great moment of building our communal love and relaonship with one another, thus we all become the Missionaries of St. Marn. To be the witness for His love, Fr. Gospel Reading Mark 7:1-8,14-15,21-23

Jesus teaches that it is that which comes from our hearts that defiles us. Children have learned the importance of following rules. Like the Pharisees in today’s Gospel, they often bring to our attention the in-fractions of others. Even parents sometimes get caught off guard by their children’s observations: “Why don’t YOU have to go to bed at 8:00?” or “But I saw YOU eat a cupcake before breakfast once.” Our rules for our children are not arbitrary. We establish and enforce fami-ly rules with the intention of helping our children grow to be healthy and mature adults. We foster this maturity when we also initiate con-versations with our children about the purposes behind family rules and teach them the essential values that rules help us observe. As you gather as a family, list some of your most important family rules. Together, try to write a single, positive statement that captures the essential value behind your family rules. In today’s Gospel, we hear Jesus criticize the Pharisees for making their rules about ritual purity equal to the commandments of God’s Law. When we remem-ber the essential element behind our rules, we see that our rules help us be the good people that Jesus wants us to be. Ultrasounds Save Lives!

Prayer for Labor Day On this weekend, when we rest from our usual labors, loving Father,

we pray for all who shoulder the tasks of human labor—in the market-place, in factories and offices, in the professions, and in family living.

We thank you, Lord, for the gift and opportunity of work; may our efforts always be pure of heart, for the good of others and the glory of

your name. We lift up to you all who long for just employment and those who work

to defend the rights and needs of workers everywhere. May those of us who are now retired always remember that we still

make a valuable contribution to our Church and our world by our prayers and deeds of charity.

May our working and our resting all give praise to you until the day we share together in eternal rest with all our departed in your Kingdom as

you live and reign Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
