MAY 26, 2019 SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
I announced last weekend that I am being transferred to a new parish. This parish will be St. Albert the Great in North Austin and the change will be effective July 1st. My last weekend at St. Martin de Porres will be June 22/23. This change is being made for the following reasons: 1. The pastor of St. Albert the Great is retiring and the Bishop needs a bilingual priest capable of replacing this retiring priest. 2. My keratoconus eye condition has caused my night vision to worsen and so I need to be in a better lit urban area if I am going to keep driving at night. 3. There is a need and desire for me to do more mental health ministry, specifically to the psychiatric hospitals in Austin. While I believe this move is God's will, it is difficult for me because I love this parish and will miss it sorely. The priest who is replacing me is Fr. Justin Nguyen. Fr. Justin is a good and holy priest who I was in Seminary with. He was ordained a year before I was and has been a pastor for about the same time period as I have been one. Fr. Justin is coming from St. Mary in Mexia. He has done a great job at that parish. When I knew that I was going to be transferred to St. Albert the Great, I specifically requested that Fr. Justin be the priest to replace me. I am grateful that Bishop Vasquez accepted that recommendation. I truly believe Fr. Justin will do a great job at St. Martin de Porres. There will be little going away celebrations after every weekend mass of June 22/23rd. On Sunday, June 23rd the primary going away party will begin with a Eucharistic Procession at the church from 2:30pm-3:00pm. The main going away party then will be from 3:00pm - 4:45pm in the St. Dymphna Center. Due to Priest Summer Gathering we will have Communion Service on May 28th & May 29th, there will be no Confessions. I will miss you all, Fr. Charlie
Legion of Mary ministry celebrated the annual May Crowning with a procession and Namie Wolfenstein crowned Our Blessed Mother. Followed by the recitation of the Rosary.

OUTREACH
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Did you know that one in five Americans will suffer a mental health condition in their lifetime, yet less than half of those (including children) will receive the treatment they need? Counseling Services at Catholic Charities of Central Texas aims to combat the barriers of cost, distance, language and stigma by providing high-quality, sliding fee scale counseling through in-person and virtual therapy. Are you missing a loved one? Grief is a normal reaction to losing someone you love. You are invited to the Grief Sharing group meetings, a safe place to find support. Meetings are held the first and third Monday of each month. June meetings will be held on Mondays, June 3 and June 17 from 6:30pm to 8:00pm in the St. Dymphna Room 1. NAMI Family & Friends is a 4-hour workshop that informs and supports people who have loved ones with a mental health condition. Participants will learn about diagnoses, treatment, recovery, communication strategies, crisis preparation and NAMI resources. Corpus Christi Procession on Sunday, June 23rd from 2:30pm - 3:30pm
We will begin inside the Church then process with the Blessed Sacrament around the Church grounds. This is a beautiful way to celebrate the gift of the Eucharist and we hope you can join us.
St. Martin de Porres parishioners pray one day per month outside of the Planned Parenthood facility (E. Ben White). Would you like to be a part of opening up the hearts and minds of the expecting mothers and workers towards God and a Pro-Life outcome? Perhaps, you saw the movie “Unplanned” and wondered what you can do to support Pro-Life. Maybe, you feel the Holy Spirit calling you to support the Pro-Life movement. Regardless, come join us monthly and help us grow….. Our June session is scheduled date is Saturday, June 15th from 9:00-10:00am. You can choose to pray in Group Prayer (Rosary, Divine Mercy) or in Silent Prayer. Afterwards, there is an optional group breakfast (TBD). For anyone wanting to carpool, we meet in the Belterra Village parking lot at 8:30am and proceed to the prayer location. Memorial Day Breakfast – Knights of Columbus The St. Martin de Porres’ Knights of Columbus (Council 11695) will be hosting a Veterans Memorial Day Breakfast at 7:30am – 9:30am on Monday, May 27, 2019 in the St. Dymphna Center located on the St. Martin de Porres campus - 230 Post Oak Road, Dripping Springs (RR12 & Post Oak Road).
Our Guest Speaker this year will be Colonel Matt Elledge (US Army, retired). The breakfast honors veterans and is free to all local veterans and their family members. We also honor our Sheriff’s Department and Constables, EMS, and the Fire Department.
We are greatly assisted in this annual event by McDonalds, HEB, The Carved Stone, Mazama Coffee, and Grapevine Signs.
Texas Trotters On June 7th, the Texas Trotters will have their monthly meeting at the parish hall after the noon mass. All are invited to join our church seniors to enjoy a brown bag lunch and plan future activities.

In the month of May, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul brought the love and care of Jesus to the poor by assisting families, providing in food, for utility and rent bills, etc. Thank You!

Tengo un anuncio especial. El Señor Obispo me ha pedido que sea párroco de San Alberto Magno, una parroquia que está en el norte de Austin. El cambio entrará en vigencia el 1 de julio. Mi último fin de semana en San Martín de Porres será el 22/23 de junio. Este cambio se está haciendo por las siguientes razones: 1. El pastor de San Alberto Magno se retira y el Obispo necesita un sacerdote bilingüe que pueda reemplazar al sacerdote que se jubila. 2. La salud de mis ojos ha empeorado. Tengo uno condición que se llama queratocono que impacta mi visión nocturna. Si manejo de noche, tiene que ser en una zona urbana con buena iluminación. 3. Existe la necesidad y el deseo de que yo haga más ministerios de salud mental, específicamente en los hospitales psiquiátricos de Austin. Aunque estoy convencido que este cambio es la voluntad de Dios, no deja de ser difícil para mí porque amo a esta parroquia y la extrañaré mucho. El sacerdote que me está reemplazando es el padre. Justin Nguyen. P. Justin es un sacerdote bueno y santo con el que estuve en el seminario. Fue ordenado un año antes que yo fuera y ha sido pastor durante casi el tiempo que yo. P.
