A NOTE FROM FATHER KEVIN
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
+ Pax et Bonum!
Welcome to St. Maria Goretti today as we celebrate the Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time! We gather together as a Parish community to be strengthened by our Lord in the Holy Eucharist and to support and build up one another in the Christian life! It is good to be together today. We do welcome all of our guests and visitors to our Parish this weekend. In a special way we continue to welcome our brothers and sisters who are joining us while they are in Westfield for sports events at Grand Park. Thank you for making time to come to Mass!
In the next couple of weeks, we are going to hear the invitations from both the Women’s Christ Renews His Parish Team #32 and the Men’s Christ Renew His Parish Team #32. The Christ Renews His Parish weekends are rapidly approaching in September. The Women’s Christ Renews His Parish Weekend is September 17 & 18. And the Men’s Christ Renews His Parish Weekend is September 24 & 25. Even before the invitation announcements, I wanted to invite every member of St. Maria Goretti Parish, WHO HAS NOT MADE a Christ Renew His Parish weekend, to consider doing so next month. If you are 18 years old, out of high school, and a registered member of St. Maria Goretti Parish, then we really want you to make the Christ Renews His Parish weekend here with us. Our goal has always been to get every adult member of the Parish to make one of these weekends. The Christ Renews His Parish weekends next month are your next opportunity to do so!
On a personal note, I have been blessed as a priest to go on retreats many different places with lots of awesome people. The Christ Renews His Parish weekend stands out as the very best retreat experience that I have ever had. Even as a priest, I learned things and experienced God’s incredible love in ways that were completely surprising to me. I was on Team #1 back in 2000, when we first became an independent Parish. In the 16 years that we have been doing Christ Renews His Parish, hundreds of parishioners, just like you, have gone through the weekend. Quite literally, Christ Renews His Parish has been the single biggest influence on making this Parish community what it is today. We are all most grateful! It works. We have been renewed.
I tell you this now because if you haven’t made the Christ Renews His Parish weekend yet, I sure would like for you to do it this September if at all possible. You won’t regret it. We have members of the Parish who have put this off for 16 years. Now may be your time! In addition, I make a special appeal to all of our new parishioners. In the last year, St. Maria Goretti Parish has received dozens of new families. We know God brought you here for a reason. New brothers and sisters, we need you to make the Christ Renews His Parish weekend as soon as possible! There is nothing that you can do to better help you become more a part of this community, than to make one of these weekends. We need you! Don’t put it off. Don’t make excuses. Come and join us!
If you have already made a weekend before, and it has been at least five years since you did so, you are eligible to make the weekend again. A number of people have done so and found it very beneficial. If you are reading this, and this is your situation, maybe this is something that you would want to consider for next month. It speaks very highly of the Christ Renew His Parish process, that so many would want to do it again, and are so supportive of others going on the weekend. Pray about it! It might be time to do again.
And for all of us, we are all recruiters for the Christ Renews His Parish weekend. Now is our time to recruit! We need to fill up these new teams. Your invitation can make all the difference to someone! Don’t be afraid to ask.
I am so glad to have the students back in school. There is such an energy that is missing when school is not in session! Not to mention, also a lot of noise that we don’t have during the summer months. I’ll take the noise any day when it is accompanied by the energy!
Have a great week! God bless you! In Christ, Fr. Kevin
Every saint has a past. Every sinner has a future.
Welcome! For more than 20 years now, we have been building the Kingdom of God, not with a few people, but with everyone! Please accept my warmest welcome, and I pray you will come to know St. Maria Goretti as we all do—our Spiritual Home and Loving Community. We are glad you are here and look forward to meeting you! God Bless you. —Father Kevin Welcome: Richelle Muhlenkamp, Frank & Kristi Camasta

STEWARDSHIP OUR RETURN TO GOD OF OUR TIME, TALENT & TREASURE
This week’s ministry is another that beautifully demon-strates God’s mercy—the Respect Life Ministry. Sara Phillips discusses how our Parish Family promotes the culture of life and how you can join the effort:
What is the Respect Life Ministry? We are a group of parishioners who seek to promote the culture of life and to respect the sacredness of human life from conception to natural death through aware-ness, action, and prayer. We do this through our support of 40 Days for Life, the Gifts of Life Mass & Brunch, monthly Worship Music Holy Hour (every first Thursday of the month at 7 pm), an annual blood drive, a Roe V. Wade Eucharistic procession, Pro-Life T-shirt contests, and much more.
What has been your most rewarding experience? Hands down, my most rewarding experiences involve the miracles that have occurred during 40 Days for Life. There are so many dedicated prayer warriors and side-walk counselors who are converting hearts and saving lives every single day at Planned Parenthood. Additional-ly, I love seeing the Pro-Life spirit “click on” with the youth of our parish, when they grasp it and act upon it. This next generation is slated to be the greatest Pro-Life generation, and I believe they will be.
How can others with a passion for the sanctity of life get involved? The most valuable contributions are prayer, fasting and educating. Stay informed. Always be on guard and be the voice for the most vulnerable in our society.
Four specific things you can do are: 1) Participate in the upcoming 40 Days for Life. 2) Come listen to Abby Johnson, August 24 at 6 pm. 3) Pray with us at the first Thursday adoration hour. 4) Bring new ideas to the ministry!
If you are interested in advocating for the sanctity of all life from conception to natural death through involvement in this ministry, send us an e-mail, respectlifesmg@ gmail.com.

ENTIRE PARISH FAMILY HELPS SMG! The 2016-17 school year kicked off in typical SMG fashion—-FANTASTIC! Just a reminder, SMG does not participate in any fundraising campaigns, like selling M&Ms or gift wrap. However, there are many ways you can help our school make money:
Purchase SCRIP cards

Dine at local restaurants on Spirit Days
We appreciate the ENTIRE St. Maria Goretti Parish Family in your support. Don’t forget about Band on the Field, August 27!
