Dear Friends of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church:

I am excited to share with you the details of our 2015-2017 Capital Campaign.

Campaign Overview St. Luke’s 2015-2017 capital campaign will raise funds for three critical facility needs. The first project will replace or substantially upgrade key components of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems within the facility. The second project will add an elevator. The third project will be a renovation of the kitchen.

Campaign Rationale The St. Luke’s facility has been a wonderful blessing for many years. However, key capital investments are needed to address existing issues and ensure the long term viability of the facility. Making these investments benefits our members and those we serve, now and in the future.

The HVAC system is aging rapidly and key components are, or will soon be working on borrowed time. Waiting to act increases the probability of catastrophic failure. It is better to act now than to risk a failure that could disrupt use of the facility or require resources beyond our existing reserves to repair.

Adding an elevator will make St. Luke’s far more accessible. An elevator will let members, community users, and guests with limited mobility enter either level of the facility and move between levels with minimal difficulty. Greater accessibility may also create new opportunities to generate rental income to fund our operations and programs.

Finally, the kitchen plays a vital role in so many events, programs, and ministries at St. Luke’s. Just as a kitchen can serve as the center of family life in a family home, the St. Luke’s kitchen serves a similar role in our spiritual home. Upgrades will improve the kitchen’s layout and replace aging fixtures and appliances.

Project Costs and Campaign Goal The HVAC systems enhancements are expected to cost between $350,000 and $400,000. The elevator is expected to cost between $225,000 and $250,000. The kitchen renovation is expected to cost between $30,000 and $50,000. Based on these estimates, the campaign committee, with the approval of the Vestry, has set a campaign goal of $700,000.

Campaign Timing Formal campaign planning began in June 2014. Planning of key large solicitations began in September 2014, with actual solicitations expected to occur between December 2014 and March 2015. The general appeal will be made in April 2015. Donors will be asked to make a commitment above and beyond their annual commitment. Pledges will be payable over two years, with payments expected in June 2015, December 2015, June 2016, and December 2016. The start of construction is dependent on when funds come in and some seasonal considerations, with work expected to start no sooner than late spring or early summer 2016.

I also want to thank Dr. Bert Reiman, who has agreed to serve as our Campaign Chairperson. If you have any questions, please contact either me or Dr. Reiman. Every Blessing,
