Koinonia…It’s us !
At our parish’s first Mass on December 9, 2002, the Feast Day of the newly canonized St. Juan Diego, the parish was dependent on liturgical ministers who were trained by other parishes. The enthusiasm of these first ministers expressed the primacy that the Eucharist and a prayerful community had in their lives. They had an understanding of the Church as koinonia.
Koinonia is a Greek word that describes a particular community and fellowship. It is a sharing in the very life of God in communion with our sisters and brothers. IT’S US!
Koinonia is a partnership. It is the caring and sharing of the sacraments and values we so strongly hold in common. It is the sharing of the gifts, talents and treasures bestowed on us by God for the good of the whole community. We have many ministers serving at Mass. Other ministers care for those who cannot be present with us to receive the Eucharist. We have people sharing their gifts caring for the buildings and grounds. Catechists teach our young people; and others journey with fellow pilgrims who want to join the Church. Still others care for the wider community through St. Vincent De Paul. Guess what? IT’S US!
Koinonia is forming close intimate bonds with our spiritual sisters and brothers. Women and Men’s retreats and Small Christian Communities reinforce this spirituality. More people are calling St. Juan Diego Parish, “Home”. It’s Family. IT’S US!
THANK YOU! to everyone who has generously shared their gifts and talents to create a welcoming and caring community. Everyone’s participation in the life of the Parish is vital to sustain our koinonia.
As the Liturgical Year draws to a close, we reflect on the many changes in the liturgy and in our parish. We are grateful for patience; and the courage to rejoice in the gift of change. We are eager to begin the new Liturgical Year with Advent and see God’s gift unfold.
In December we will be celebrating the 10th year of our establishment as a community of worshippers. We invite everyone to celebrate the parish and especially each other.
For in koinonia, the living and sharing in the life of God with our sisters and brothers, we can sustain our parish community for our children and future generations. Your sister in Christ,

Religious freedom ought to have this further purpose, namely,
that persons may come to act with greater responsibility in
fulfilling their duties in community life.

Catholic Campaign for Human Development “The Church’s love for the poor . . . is a part of her constant
tradition” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 2444). The
Collection for the Campaign for Human Development (CCHD)

SANCTITY OF LIFE
Thanksgiving God our Father,
open our eyes to see your hand at work
in the splendor of creation,
in the beauty of human life.
Touched by your hand our world is holy.
Help us to cherish the gifts that surround us,
to share your blessings with our brothers and sisters,
and to experience the joy of life in your presence.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
- Priests For Life
Two Thoughts on Social Justice
"Catholicism does not call us to abandon the world but to help
shape it. This does not mean leaving worldly tasks and
responsibilities but transforming them...Social justice and the
common good are built up or torn down day by day in the
countless decisions and choices we make."
- US Bishops, Everyday Christianity
"Our world is entering the new millennium burdened by the
contradictions of an economic, cultural and technological
progress which offers immense possibilities to a fortunate few,
while leaving millions of others not only on the margins of
progress but in living conditions far below the minimum
demanded by human dignity...Christians must learn to make
their act of faith in Christ by discerning his voice in the cry for
help that rises from this world of poverty."
- Pope John Paul II, Novo Millennio Ineunte,
Apostolic Letter at the Close of the
Great Jubilee of the Year 2000, January 6, 2001
Thanks to all who donated over 600 pounds of food to our St.
Vincent de Paul pantry. The need is still great and your continual
generosity is deeply appreciated.
