ST. JOSEPH’S CATHOLIC CHURCH
From the Pastor’s Laptop
be Catechism teachers; Festival volunteers; help distribute food to the needy with our St. Vincent de Paul Ministry, as well as many other ways to serve. On the Sunday after the Festival, everyone will be asked during Mass to fill out your “Stewardship Renewal Card” to make a commitment to participate in our church’s mission!
Father Mark Wagner Next weekend is our 45th
A n n u a l S t . J o s e p h ’ s P a r i s h Festival! We are calling on EVERYONE to come and enjoy the food and fellowship and family fun! All are called and all are welcome! Buy your tickets today for the dinners, food, games and rides!
In our second reading this Sunday, St. Paul says that we must welcome all. He says that when a “poor person dressed in shabby clothes also comes into your assembly” you should not “make distinctions among yourselves” because {Did not God choose those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom?} (James 2:2-5) All of God’s children can be heirs to the kingdom of our one heavenly Father. That means we also inherit the work of building the kingdom of God in this world. We are given a share in the mission, we are stewards entrusted with the task until Christ’s return.
We call all to join us for fun things like the festival, but also call all to serve responsibly in our various parish ministries. Some are called to

Where did the Bible come from?
Respect Life
“In many places, the quality of life is related primarily to economic means, to “well-being”, to the beauty and enjoyment of the physical, forgetting other more profound dimensions of existence — interpersonal, spiritual and religious. In fact, in the light of faith and right reason, human life is always sacred and always “of quality”. There is no human life that is more sacred than another – every human life is sacred – just as there is no human life qualitatively more significant than another, only by virtue of resources, rights, great social and economic opportunities. The dominant thinking sometimes suggests a “false compassion”, that which believes that it is: helpful to women to promote abortion; an act of dignity to obtain euthanasia; a scientific breakthrough to “produce” a child and to consider it to be a right rather than a gift to welcome; or to use human lives as guinea pigs presumably to save others.”
— Pope Francis to the Association of Italian Doctors,
November 14, 2014
This question has been adapted from the book, “Did Adam and Eve Have Belly Buttons?” by Matthew Pinto This is one of those fundamental questions that many never seem to ask. Yet the answer to it is crucial to our understanding of how God reveals Himself to His people. While the history of the Bible can get a bit complicated, the simple fact is that the Bible as we know it today was written and compiled over the span of nearly a thousand years. The books of the Old Testament were written mostly in Hebrew (with some Aramaic and Greek thrown in), while the New Testament was written entirely in Greek, the common language of the day. In a nutshell, God inspired certain men to write the books of the Bible we have today (see 2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:19-21; Catechism of the Catholic Church 105, 136). Without removing their freedom, God moved them to write what He wanted them to write. The primary author of the Bible, then, is God Himself. The human authors remained true authors as well, in that they used their own particular abilities and gifts to convey without error those truths that God wanted to reveal to us (see CCC 106). This is what is referred to as biblical inspiration. Thus, the Bible is truly the Word of God without ceasing to be the words of men (see CCC 105, 702).

An Autumn Message About Child Protection
Autumn means back to school for children and back to work for those who have been on vacation. Amidst the hustle and bustle of this season, let us all keep sight of the importance of keeping our chil-
dren and young people safe from danger.
Training requirements to safeguard children have been established in parishes throughout the Diocese of Stockton. These training requirements help ensure that all children and youth experience a safe envi-
ronment in all parish activities and events.
The Diocese of Stockton mandates that all people who work with children and youth in our parishes and schools must undergo child abuse prevention training through the guidelines established by the United
States Conference of Catholic Bishops. This training includes being fingerprinted and background checked and completing an on-line training course entitled Shield the Vulnerable. If you are planning on
helping or assisting in your child’s school, you are required to complete this training.
For training information, contact your local parish/school Safe Environment Coordinator.
For particular help and questions you may call: Linda Dillen, Manager of Benefits & Safe Environment for the Diocese of Stockton, at (209) 466-0636

Parish Stewardship — a way of life
By: Tammy Menezes
Richard Braun
How many times have you seen this face on the lectern, asking us to support some ministry effort? Did he make you laugh? Did he seem full of joy for our Lord? In most cases, the answer is … yes! Richard Braun uses his joy and public speaking ability to motivate others in our parish.
A Knights of Columbus Insurance Field Agent by day, he also serves as husband to Maria and proud father of Nicolas (Nico) and Giancarlos. He has answered God’s call of stewardship to serve as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, Chair of our Parish Festival, Adult Choir Member, World Youth Day Chaperone, and more, along with being a good and devoted friend to many.
Most remarkable about Richard is that he always keeps his joyful focus on whatever he is doing. He serves with grace, faith and always with the attitude that what he has is God’s and his job is to be a steward of those gifts. Richard is a member of our new TMIY Core Team and invites you to join him in the inaugural breakfast and fellowship.:

Wednesday, Sept. 9 5:45 am Doors Open for Breakfast Parish Hall—That Man Is you!
