Twenty First Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 3

August 27th, 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time:

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

I am now coming upon two months since I have arrived at Saint Joseph. The summer months are quickly com-ing to an end, summer vacations are almost over and most students have returned to school. Before you know it every family will have a full calendar and it will be as if there is no time for anything, not even faith based events or church functions. Just like we schedule everything else in our lives we should also carve out time to activities of faith. Every parish that I have been assigned to I have immersed myself into the spirituality of the patron saint of the parish. 1994-1998 while at All Souls Parish I focused on prayer for the Souls in Purgatory and the Souls of the living. 1998-2001 while at Saint Mary Magdalen I promoted the spirituality of being witnesses of the resurrection as was Mary Magdalen. 2002-2003 while at Holy Family I focused on families sanctifying their life and being the Domes-tic Church while challenging fathers, mothers, and children to truly live their roles in imitation of Christ. 2003-2017 while at Guardian Angel I promoted a devotion to our Guardian Angels and their role in our lives. Now that I am at Saint Joseph Parish, I already began spreading devotion to Saint Joseph and modeling life after him. Last week I began with the faculty of Saint Joseph School. The Gospel gives us very little information on Saint Joseph. As the husband of the Blessed Virgen Mary and the foster father of Jesus Jo-seph is introduced to us as being a “Just” man. In bib-lical vocabulary to be “Just” is to share in some way the holiness of God. In other words, a just person lives in close relationship with God and strives to dis-cern God’s will for them in their life. So, for us, pa-rishioners of Saint Joseph Parish, do we strive to imi-tate the life of our patron saint? To share in God’s holi-ness you must be in relationship with Him through daily prayer. Open your bible, pray together before meals, pray in the morning, say a brief prayer during your break at work, pray with your spouse, pray with your children, pray with your parents. Imitate Saint Joseph by learning God’s will for you. For us as Catholics, to be in relationship with God is to be in re-lationship with His Church, that is to say, live a Sacra-mental Life. More on this next week. Remember to make room for Jesus.

Fr. Steven Guitron

Agosto 27, Vigésimo Primer Domingo Del Tiempo Ordinario:

Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas

Recuerde dejar espacio a Jesús.

Bullying and back to school

Unfortunately, conflict and even bullying seem to be a widespread experience our

country’s schools. Children may fall victim to, or perpetuate, intimidation and teasing, sometimes with lasting consequences to themselves and/or others. As children head back to school, it is important to talk to them about how they treat others and how to handle conflict or bullying in their classrooms and on the playgrounds. Get involved in your child’s school and ask about plans or programs for bullying prevention. To request a copy of the VIRTUS® article “Understanding School Violence, Part 2” email [email protected] or call (213) 637-7227.
