The Word Next Tuesday we celebrate the feast day of Mary MacKillop and Stage 2 will be our host for the whole school Mass commencing at 9:30am. Mary MacKillop is not only the first Australian to be recognised by the Church as a Saint, she is truly a very Australian saint. She characterises the spirit of the Australian mythology. She was a prodigious hard worker who put the needs of others before herself. She exhibited something of the larrikin spirit: constantly in dispute with authority but pressing on, regardless. She used the strengths of others but also didn’t tolerate those who were not genuine. Her commitment to the schooling of children from poor and rural communities established a model of Catholic education that continues to today. A Saint for and of Australia! Spirituallity Day A Spirituality Day will be held at Yanco on the 4 and 5th September. These will be pupil free days as all staff will attend. The topic for the day will be “Treasure in Earthen Vessels “Staff will be led and engaged in activities that will nourish their personal growth in spirituality, while exploring the concept and impact of missionary discipleship personally and as a school community. Parish Mass Thank you to all who attended Saturday night Mass. Our next Parish Mass will be Week 6 either the 25th or 26th August and Year 2 will be our host.

2017 INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIONS AND ASSESSMENTS FOR SCHOOLS (ICAS) Our school offers the International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) to any student who wishes to enter. ICAS provides an opportunity for all Years 2 – 12 students to gain a measure of their own achievement in an external testing situation. The tests are an excellent preparation for National tests (NAPLAN) and the student feedback is useful for highlighting your child’s strengths and weaknesses. The following students have extended themselves by taking on the challenge of extra assessment in the areas of Digital Technologies and Science. Congratulations to Clancy Ryan, Mitchell Forrest and Thomas McLellan for participating in the Digital Technologies assessment. Well done to Christian Davis, Sophie Heckendorf, Evana Jiju, Thomas McLellan, Clancy Ryan and Mitchell Forrest for participating in the Science assessment. Also congratulations to Christian Davis, Clancy Ryan and Thomas McLellan for participating in the English assessment.

Special mention goes to Sophie Heckendorf and Thomas McLellan for receiving credit certificates in Science. Christian Davis excelled in Spelling and received a distinction certificate.

M.E. time ~ Expressions of Interest Last year we had an overwhelming response to this program so we have decided to run it again.

M.E. time (Managing Emotions time) is a short training program and will be available at

school for children where they will learn skills to help them cope with emotions, this will be particularly aimed at assisting them to cope with stress. If you are interested in your child learning some new skills or refreshing what they learnt last year, this program will be starting soon. Please express your interest by filling in the form below and return to the front office as soon as possible. Further information will be available to those interested.

Thanks Kathy Little
