Welcome to Week 4.
This week we have a wonderful event with our Grandparents Day Liturgy and Morning
Tea which will be held tomorrow, Tuesday from 10:00am. Please feel very welcome to
share this Liturgy. Thanks to Mr Schwager (REC) for coordinating this Liturgy.
Next week, Monday 4th of November is the evening set down for the compulsory
2014 Kinder Parent Information session. The information evening will be held in the hall
from 6:30pm. I am looking forward to meeting new families to our wonderful school
community.
World Teachers’ Day Thank you
On Friday, we celebrated World Teachers’ Day. Although
I was in Bathurst at a Principal’s meeting I have been
informed by many happy staff that the special morning
tea was fantastic. A huge note of thanks to Mrs Duncan
our P&F President for organizing the morning tea.
We are blessed with wonderful teachers at our place. To
see a child’s eyes light up because they’ve just ‘got it’
…….. just understood a particular concept …….. to see them grow in confidence as people in their
relationship with others ………. are the reasons why we became teachers.
Last week we talked about the bravery and selflessness of the Rural Fire Ser-
vice and the other emergency services at assembly and during class prayer.
We remembered these dedicated men and woman in our prayers and we
asked that God be with them as they go about their difficult and dangerous
work protecting our communities. We will continue to pray that God watches
over them as well as those communities who could be in harm’s way.
Gospel Reflection
“The Pharisee took up his position and spoke this prayer to himself, 'O God, I thank you that I am
not like the rest of humanity - greedy, dishonest - or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week,
and I pay tithes on my whole income.’ But the tax collector stood off at a distance and would not
even raise his eyes to heaven but beat his breast and prayed, 'O God, be merciful to me a sinner.' I
tell you, the latter went home justified, not the former; for whoever exalts himself will be humbled,
and the one who humbles himself will be exalted."
27th October 2013
Pope Francis’ first action after being elected was to remain on the ground floor with everyone else, rather than climb the
steps to the throne from which past popes received the pledges of the cardinals.
His first words to the faithful were a call for them to pray for him. Pope Francis has focused his attention on the poor. He
doesn’t live in the papal apartments but rather in the Casa Santa Marta residence inside the Vatican, where he eats dinner in
the company of lower-ranking priests and visitors.
The Gospel contrasts a proud Pharisee and a humble tax collector as they come to pray in the temple. Jesus uses that story to
teach us that the ones who exalt themselves will be humbled, and the ones who humble themselves will be exalted.
A thought for the week: “Treat people as if they were what they ought to be, and you help them to become what they are
capable of being.”
Von Goethe.
It is important we work together to ensure our students stay safe online,
so I encourage all parents to visit the Australian Communications and
Media Authority (ACMA) http://www.cybersmart.gov.au/ where you can
explore the issues and learn strategies for online safety. There are some
wonderful short animations on the site for younger children (Hector’s
World) that take only 5-10 minutes to watch. It would be really valuable
for families to explore these together as they can provide a fun and
informative context for family discussions of the issues.
Our Staff are currently preparing to implement the new Australian Curriculum in English for 2014. Last week we worked with
Mrs Lorraine Short from the Bathurst CEO reviewing the scope and sequence of the new materials. There are 2 more sessions
scheduled with Lorraine in Professional Development meetings. The new syllabus builds on the strength of the existing NSW
curriculum. There is an increased emphasis on grammar and the teaching of quality literature. Children will learn about lan-
guage and literature through working with a wide range of print, spoken, visual, media, multimedia and digital texts. For the
first time, there will be a requirement that students experience a range of texts, including Australian works, multiculturalism,
Aboriginality and Australian identity and Asian perspectives.
Have a wonderful week and God Bless
Anthony

Catholic Mission Lunch Bags/ Crazy Socks Day!
I would like to sincerely thank the school community once again for your tremendous sup-
port in donating to those less fortunate in our world. We still have money trickling in for
the Mission Lunch Bags/Crazy Socks Day but so far there would be several hundred dollars!
If you would like to see where your money is going for this fundraiser, can I invite you to the
Çatholic Mission website, and under the Education/School section, there is an informative and
moving 5 minute video on the children being helped in Mongolia.
Grandparent’s Day Liturgy and Morning Tea.
Families, especially grandparents, are warmly invited to attend our whole school liturgy tomorrow,
Tuesday 29th October at 10am in our St John the Apostle School Hall. This will be followed by a
Morning Tea for grandparents hosted by our school’s Parents and Friends Association.
Due to the large gathering expected at this liturgy, there may be limited seating, so in the spirit of
our liturgy, please offer chairs to any elderly or less able.
All Saints Day/ All Souls Day
This Friday is All Saints Day (Commemorating the Blessed in heaven) and Sat-
urday is All Souls Day (The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed), in
which the Church prays for everyone who has died. This is a special day to
pray for loved ones, trusting that God will hear and answer our prayers that
they will know eternal light, happiness and peace.
A special ‘Personal Prayer Time’ will be available at lunchtime this Friday in our school hall (from
1.15pm to 1.45pm), for students, staff and families to come and pray for loved ones who are now
departed. This involves a prayer focus area with reflective music playing. Prayer cards will also be
available. Anyone is very welcome to attend.
A Reflection on Grandparents
Once upon a time there was a child ready to be born.
The child asked God,
Child: “They tell me you are sending me to earth tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so
small and helpless?”
God: “Among the angels, I’ll choose one for you. Your angel will be waiting for you and will take care
of you.”
Child: “But tell me, here in heaven I don’t have to do anything but sing and smile and be happy.”
God: “Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you every day. And you will feel your angel’s
love and be very happy.”
Child: “And how am I going to be able to understand when people talk to me if I don’t know the lan-
guage?”
God: “Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you will ever hear, and with much
patience and care, your angel will teach you how to speak.”
Child: “I’ve heard on earth there are bad people. Who will protect me?”
God: “Your angel will defend you even if it means risking its own life.”
Child: “God, if I am to leave now, please tell me my angel’s name.”
God: “Your angel’s name is not important. You will simply call your angel, Grandpa or Grandma.”

COMBINED CATHOLIC SCHOOLS FEES AND FAMILY SUPPORT OFFICE
There is no further invoicing for the 2013 school year. Thank you to everyone who has paid in full for the 2013 school year. Those families on agreed payment plans or those accounts that still have an outstanding balance will receive another statement in early November 2013. Please check your statement carefully when you receive it and advise as soon as possible if you have any concerns. It is also a good idea to check against your bank statement.
Yr 12 (HSC) 2013: Thank you to all those families who have finalised their 2013 account. All the best to your children for the exams over the next few weeks.
School-Based Class Charges: The Class Charge is one of three components that make up the school fees. The other two components are the Tuition and the Capital Works Levy which are both set by the Diocese and are the same for all Year Groups across the Diocese. The School-Based Class Charge is an individual school charge specific to the individual year group in each individual school for the current school year. Every effort is made to keep these costs to a minimum. There have been requests from some parents for a financial breakup of this school-based charge. A detailed financial breakup will not be provided. There is a very stringent budgetary process each year involving the Principals which takes into account the class resources, administration expenses and additional costs of the individual schools which also includes resources and excursions.

One Hundred Years From Now
One Hundred Years from now
It will not matter
What kind of car I drove
What kind of house I lived in
How much money was in my bank account
Nor what my clothes looked like.
But the world may be a better place because
I was important in the life of a child.
