our parish, and the confines of our own personal sphere, to help build up our faith community and

Viviendo nuestra fe en obras de caridad «Qué maravilloso sería si, al final de cada día, to-

dos pudiéramos decir: Hoy hice una obra de caridad hacia el prójimo». Papa Francisco

Todos los años en esta época la Campaña Católica Anual exhorta a los fieles a considerar como familia unida en Cristo las necesidades de nuestra Iglesia y

de la Diócesis.

La Campaña nos invita a comprometernos a apoyar la labor de los programas y ministerios diocesanos dedicados a brindar servicios que ninguna parro-

quia por sí sola podría brindar. Debemos responder al llamado a tender la mano al prójimo más allá de

los límites de nuestra parroquia y de los confines de nuestra esfera personal, para ayudar a edificar

nuestra comunidad de fe y elevar a nuestros herma-nos en Cristo.

Así como somos uno unidos en el Cuerpo de Cristo,

debemos recordar que somos uno unidos con las demás parroquias.

«No consideren solamente los intereses propios,

sino también los intereses de los demás». Filipen-ses 2:4

A note for you:

For many persons saints are important because they can get favors for us from God. Saint themselves can’t heal us or fix up problems or difficulties in our lives. All they can do is ask God to help us. Then it is up to God to give us what we want if he thinks that is really best for us. If we only look at saints in that way we are missing the main rea-son why saints are important. The Church recognizes some persons as saints to give us an example of how they lived out their lives as followers of Jesus. They are meant to inspire us to follow their example. There are many different ways people have lived as followers of Jesus. For example we have St. Francis at Assisi who re-nounced at material wealth in order to live a simple poor life of prayer and preaching. Another example is that of Mother There-sa of Calcutta. She dedicated her life to care for the abandoned sick and dying who lived in the streets and alleys of Calcutta, India. Another example is Archbishop Romero of San Salvador. He was killed because he defended the poor and those being jailed, tortured and killed by the government. Each saint had their own way of practicing the Gospel in the life they lived. For us, the main reason for putting our attention on the saints should be to look at their example and see how we can imitate them. For that reason, if we want to have a devotion to some saint we should first of all learn about how he followed Jesus. What kind of person was he? Can we follow his example? In this way we can develop a friendship with that saint. Then we can ask him to intercede for us before God.

Una nota para ti: Para muchas personas, los santos son importantes porque pue-den obtener favores de Dios para nosotros. Los santos mismos no pueden curarnos o arreglar problemas o dificultades en nues-tras vidas. Todo lo que pueden hacer es pedirle a Dios que nos ayude. Entonces, depende de Dios darnos lo que queremos si cree que es lo mejor para nosotros. Si solo miramos a los santos de esa manera, nos estamos per-diendo la razón principal por la cual los santos son importantes. La Iglesia reconoce a ciertas personas como santos para darnos un ejemplo de cómo vivieron sus vidas como seguidores de Je-sús. Deben inspirarnos a seguir su ejemplo. Hay muchas maneras diferentes en que las personas han vivido como seguidores de Jesús. Por ejemplo, tenemos a San Fran-cisco en Asís, que renunció a la riqueza material para vivir una vida sencilla y pobre de oración y predicación. Otro ejemplo es el de Madre Teresa de Calcuta. Dedicó su vida a cuidar a los enfermos y moribundos abandonados que vivían en las calles y callejones de Calcuta, India. Otro ejemplo es el Arzobispo Ro-mero de San Salvador. Fue asesinado porque defendió a los pobres y a los encarcelados, torturados y matados por el go-bierno. Cada santo tenía su propia forma de practicar el Evange-lio en la vida que vivía. Para nosotros, la razón principal para poner nuestra atención en los santos debe ser mirar su ejemplo y ver cómo podemos imi-tarlos. Por esa razón, si queremos tener devoción por algún san-to, primero debemos aprender cómo siguió a Jesús. ¿Qué tipo de persona era él? ¿Podemos seguir su ejemplo? De esta ma-nera, podemos desarrollar una amistad con ese santo. Entonces podemos pedirle que interceda por nosotros ante Dios.
