Masses for the Week of May 28 to June 2

Pastor’s Corner - Fr. Bernardin Mugabo The Most Holy Trinity - May 27, 2018

Go . . . and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. — Matthew 28:19

THE FEAR OF THE LORD: The fear of the Lord is a virtue that the Israelites cultivated. The fear of the Lord doesn’t mean we should stay away from Him or not think of Him at all, but that we may respect Him only because He is God and is deserving of all respect more so than anyone else. In the burning bush, God said to Moses: “Do not come near here; remove your sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.” (Exodus 3:5) During Exodus, not everybody was allowed to touch the Ark of the Covenant because it would result in death: “and the anger of the Lord burned against Uzzah, and God struck him down there for his irreverence; and he died there by the Ark of God.”(2 Samuel 6:7) Dear parishioners, our Churches are called “holy places” because they are places where we meet God, where we get sanctified, where we pray, and receive Holy Communion. We cannot enter the Church and do whatever we want, since we know that we are in the presence of God. The closer we get to the Tabernacle, the dwelling place of Jesus, the more we have to be careful of our actions for not desacralizing the place. That is why the sanctuary has a greater respect than the nave, the Tabernacle a greater respect than the sanctuary and the consecrated Host, Jesus himself, much more respect than all the rest. Jesus came to us so that we may know Him, love Him, serve Him and follow Him. We cannot play with Him, as we do to those who are familiar with us such as brothers or sisters playing. The more we respect Jesus, the better we are, the less we respect Jesus, the worse we turn. Our Catholic Churches are organized so that the Altar and the Tabernacle are the center of all attention. The priest is the ordinary minister of the Eucharist. He is allowed to go into the Tabernacle whenever necessary. Anybody else has to ask permission. The Eucharistic Ministers are allowed to go to the sanctuary only during the distribution of Holy Communion as we do on Sunday or weekdays if needed. We are very blessed to have people taking Holy Communion to our brothers and sisters who are homebound. I wish I could do it for all of them, but, by myself, I can’t do it all. I would like to ask those taking Holy Communion to have great respect of Jesus by: -Not everybody asking for the Eucharist for the sick can receive it unless authorized by Father Bernardin. There will be a Sign In Sheet in the Sacr isty that those who would like to take the Eucharist to the sick MUST sign, in order to set the pyx and unconsecrated host on the Altar. -Those authorized should take the pyx and the cover that goes with it. Don’t put Jesus in your pocket or your purse. Wear the string and cover with the pyx inside around your neck. - Go straight to the patient(s) you intend to give Holy Communion. Don’t go to the restaurant or shopping, or visit a friend…, Jesus has to be first. -If the patient can’t take Holy Communion for any reason whatever, don’t force them; bring Jesus back to the Church. If I am not available, the secretary will handle that.

Please don’t leave the consecrated Host to the family members or friends to give Communion when the person wakes up. -If the Holy Communion is soiled for some reason (the sick could not swallow the Host, the host fell on very dirty ground…) bring the host home and put in cold water and let it dissolve, then dump the water into the ground. There will be a training meeting soon for those who would like to bring Holy Communion to their loved ones; only those trained will have the right to do so. The Holy Eucharist is the center and the summit of our faith, said St. Pope John Paul II. The greater respect we give Him in the Eucharist, the better we are in relationship with Him. Let us give Him the respect and honor He deserves.

God bless, Father Bernardin MUGABO

RE/CCD/CFF; R.C.I.A.; RETURNING CATHOLICS; ADULT CONFIRMATION.

Congratulations to Kim Louder who received the sacrament of Confirmation this past Saturday at the Cathedral of the Blessed-Sacrament. God’s blessings on Kim and all her family. (After a time of preparation… Adult Confirmation is administered twice a year, usually November & May, in our diocese.)

Our thanks & appreciation to the families, boys & gir ls who participated, as altar-servers, readers, ushers & in the Offertory procession at the 10:00 a.m. Mass this past Sunday. God bless you all abundantly. Pope Francis’ May intention: (The Mission of the Laity) “That the lay faithful may fulfill their specific mission by responding with creativity to the challenges that face the world today.” Ten things that make for a Great Catholic-Family: Last week, we gave details about number 4. This week, here are a few details about number 5: “Great Catholic Families fight fair. Much as we would all like things to be perfect – the reality is most families experience conflict sometimes. Ensuring that you & your family know the Ten Commandments of God will enable you to always put God and God’s ways first. For example - Not using the Lord’s name in vain during an argument; Telling the truth, gently, even though it may hurt; Willingness to work through a struggle together – remembering that obstacles can make us stronger.” (Our Sunday Visitor – a Jesuit publication.)
