The Proclamation of the WordThe First Reading: read by John SpenderA reading from the book of Jeremiah

These are the words of the letter that the prophet Jeremiah sentfrom Jerusalem to the remaining elders among the exiles, and to thepriests, the prophets, and all the people, whom Nebuchadnezzar hadtaken into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon. Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, to all the exiles whom I have sent into exile fromJerusalem to Babylon: Build houses and live in them; plant gardens andeat what they produce. Take wives and have sons and daughters; takewives for your sons, and give your daughters in marriage, that they maybear sons and daughters; multiply there, and do not decrease. But seekthe welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to theLord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.

Jeremiah 29:1, 4-7

Hear what the Spirit is saying to God’s people.

All Thanks be to God.

The Second Reading: read by Leeann PriceA reading from the second letter of Paul to Timothy

Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, a descendant ofDavid—that is my gospel, for which I suffer hardship, even to the point ofbeing chained like a criminal. But the word of God is not chained. Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, so that they mayalso obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. Thesaying is sure:

If we have died with him, we will also live with him;if we endure, we will also reign with him;if we deny him, he will also deny us;if we are faithless, he remains faithful—for he cannot deny himself.

Remind them of this, and warn them before God that they are toavoid wrangling over words, which does no good but only ruins thosewho are listening. Do your best to present yourself to God as oneapproved by him, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightlyexplaining the word of truth.

2 Timothy 2:8-15

Hear what the Spirit is saying to God’s people.

All Thanks be to God.

Deacon The Lord be with you.All And also with you.Deacon The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ

according to LukeAll Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

On the way to Jerusalem Jesus was going through the regionbetween Samaria and Galilee. As he entered a village, ten lepersapproached him. Keeping their distance, they called out, saying, ‘Jesus,Master, have mercy on us!’ When he saw them, he said to them, ‘Go andshow yourselves to the priests.’ And as they went, they were made clean. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice. He prostrated himself at Jesus’ feet andthanked him. And he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus asked, ‘Were not tenmade clean? But the other nine, where are they? Was none of themfound to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?’ Then hesaid to him, ‘Get up and go on your way; your faith has made you well.’

Luke 17:11-19

Nicene CreedCelebrant Let us confess the faith of our baptism, as we say,

All We believe in one God,the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth,of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son ofGod, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God,light from light, true God from true God, begotten, notmade, of one Being with the Father;Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvationHe came down from heaven:by the power of the Holy Spirithe became incarnate from the Virgin Mary and wasmade man. For our sake he was crucified underPontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose againin accordance with the Scriptures; He ascended into heavenand is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and thedead, and his kingdom will have no end.We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father. With the Father and the Son He is worshipped andglorified. He has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness ofsins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

The Great Thanksgiving/Eucharistic Prayer 3 (DoNW)

Celebrant The Lord be with you.All And also with you.Celebrant Lift up your hearts. All We lift them to the Lord.Celebrant Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.All It is right to give our thanks and praise.

Celebrant Blessed are you, gracious God,creator of heaven and earth;you are the source of light and life for all your creation, you made us in your own image, and call us to new life in Jesus Christ our Saviour. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices to proclaim the glory of your name.

All Holy, holy, holy Lord,God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory.Hosanna in the highest.Blessed is he who comesin the name of the Lord.Hosanna in the highest,Hosanna in the highest.

Celebrant We give thanks to you, Lord our God,for the goodness and loveyou have made known to us in creation;in calling Israel to be your people;in your Word spoken through the prophets;and above all in the Word made flesh,Jesus your Son.For in these last days you sent him to be incarnatefrom the Virgin Mary, to be the Saviour and Redeemerof the world.

Page 20: St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church€¦ · 11/06/2020  · the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you

20

Celebrant In him, you have delivered us from evil, and made us worthy to stand before you.In him, you have brought us out of error into truth, out of isolation into community, out of death into life.

On the night he was handed over to suffering anddeath, a death he freely accepted, our Lord JesusChrist took bread; and when he had given thanks toyou, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, “ Take, eat: this is my body which is givenfor you.Do this for the remembrance of me.”After supper he took the cup of wine;and when he had given thanks,he gave it to them, and said, “Drink this, all of you:this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for manyfor the forgiveness of sins.Whenever you drink it,do this for the remembrance of me.”Therefore, Father, according to his command,

All we remember his death,we proclaim his resurrection,we await his coming in glory;

Celebrant And we offer our sacrificeof praise and thanksgivingto you, Lord of all;presenting to you, from your creation, this bread and this wine.

We pray you, gracious God,to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts, that they may be the sacramentof the body of Christ and his blood of the newcovenant.

Page 21: St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church€¦ · 11/06/2020  · the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you

21

Celebrant Unite us to your Son in his sacrifice, that we, made acceptable in him,may be sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

In the fullness of time, reconcile all things in Christ, and make them new,and bring us to that city of lightwhere you dwell with all your sons and daughters;through Jesus Christ our Lord, the firstborn of all creation, the head of the Church, and the author of our salvation;by whom, and with whom, and in whom,in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory are yours, almighty Father, now and for ever.

All Amen.

Celebrant As our Saviour taught us to pray, let us sing,All Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done,on earth as in heaven.Give us today our daily bread.Forgive us our sinsas we forgive those who sin against us.Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen.
