In the Gospel, two disciples have returned from Emmaus to tell their colleagues about meeting the risen Jesus on the road and recognizing him finally in the “breaking of the bread.” Suddenly Jesus appears before the whole group giving them proof that he is alive and not a ghost. He reminds them that the Scriptures about a suffer-ing messiah had to be fulfilled and that they could trust his words because he had told them these things before they happened. Jesus greets his disciples with the words, “Peace be with you.” This is a most appro-priate greeting. The disci-ples have witnessed the death of someone they loved, and they now fear for their own lives as well. Peace is what they need more than anything else. Jesus often connects this greeting of peace with an-other gift—forgiveness. Now that they are witnesses of all that has been said about Jesus, they must go out to preach repentance for the forgiveness of sin. In to-day’s Gospel, Jesus re-veals himself to his disciples. They do not recog-nize him at first, and so he meets them in a way that they can really see him. Take some time to reflect on the moments in your life that you do not recognize Jesus. What keeps you from see-ing him? It is easy to be distracted during Mass. Our mind wanders, and we forget why we are there and who’s presence we are in. Jesus gives us the profound privilege of not only hearing his Word each time we attend Mass, but, even more strikingly, the opportunity to touch and be nour-ished by his Body and Blood. Reflect on how you can prepare your heart and mind to meet Christ in a personal way this week during Mass. How will you respond when he offers you the opportunity to “touch” him?

Sacrament of Baptism The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated the first Sunday of the Month directly following the 10 am Mass. One baptismal preparation class is required. The preparation class seeks to help parents understand the Rite of Baptism and to prepare and support
parents in the on-going faith formation of their child. Please call the parish office to schedule an appointment for the baptism class.
