Dear Folks, Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving to you and all your loved ones. One of the scriptures that often comes to mind is from Romans 8:28, "We know that all things work for good for those who love God….” This Scripture is a firm promise that we can hold onto in difficult times. Often I come back to this promise and invoke it in an effort to support and sustain you in your trials. I have been very open with you that Fr. Chris’ being transferred without a replacement is a trial for me. It means increased workload to try to sustain the great endeavors that he launched. And there just aren’t more hours in the day. Additionally this week I am leaning on 1 Thessalonians: "Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In all circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.” If we put these two scriptures together, and strive to live them, it means giving thanks even for our trials. We belong to Jesus. We are beloved sons and daughters of the Father. What a gift and delight. This thanksgiving I renew my trust in His perfect will by thanking Him in all circumstances, even the ones that make me say, “ouch." pax, fr mosimann

For Appreciation of Each Other We thank you, Father, for the gift of Jesus your Son who came to our earth and lived in a simple home. We have a greater appreciation of the value and dignity of the human family because he loved and was loved within its shelter. Bless us this day; may we grow in love for each other in our family and so give thanks to you who are the maker of all human families and our abiding peace.

Donate Your Old Laptop and Change a Life There may still be some life in your laptop and instead of finding an environmentally-responsible recycling facility, please consider donating it to Catholic Charities. We need wireless capable laptops that are in good working condition and less than five years old. They will be used in our Christ House Transitional Housing Program or our Migration and Refugee Program. For more information, contact Sally O’Dwyer at [email protected] or call (703) 841-3838.

Christmas

Ornament St. John’s Preschool 15th Annual Christmas Ornament will be available after all Masses the weekends of December 5-6 and December 12-13. This year’s ornament is the fifteenth in the series of St. John the Apostle Church ornaments. It is an arch-shaped beveled glass ornament depicting the monstrance used for Eucharistic Adoration in the little church at St. John’s. The monstrance is held aloft by two angels that adore Jesus. The ornament comes in a gift box. It includes a gold ribbon for hanging and a short narrative. We also have ornaments from 2014. The 2014 ornament is a circular beveled glass ornament, depicting the church’s crucifixion scene with Mary, John and Christ. The ornaments are a limited edition, with a requested $15 donation per ornament. We hope you will continue to support our Preschool, and enjoy these ornaments as a collectible tradition on your Christmas tree each year. If you would like to obtain an ornament and will not be at Mass, please call Preschool Director Jane Taylor at (703) 777-7873 and leave a message.

I am grateful for the sharing of the perception of different people then, and the significance of the events, and how we should prepare ourselves for Advent.

Outreach Thanksgiving Coalition Food Drive For the next 3 weeks the Outreach Committee, via the Giving Tree, will be collecting non-perishable food items that will be donated to Loudoun Interfaith Relief. As more and

more families struggle to make ends meet, many holiday tables will be bare this year. Your donations will help feed the many families of Loudoun County. Please consider taking a tag from the Giving Tree and donating one or more of the requested items: canned vegetables, creamed soups, stuffing mix, canned yams, boxed mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, boxed pie crust, pumpkin pie filling, apple pie filling, cake mixes, boxed cookies, frostings, canned fruit, boxed jello, boxed whipped topping, and gravy. Loudoun Interfaith Relief is also asking for donations of $10-$20 grocery store gift cards to buy turkeys and perishable items. ** Please no glass containers. Please drop-off all donations, either at the church or parish center, in the box labeled Thanksgiving Coalition that will be located by the Giving Tree. The Parish Center is open Monday - Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. On CCD nights they are open until 7 p.m. Please drop-off all donations by Monday, November 23rd.If anyone would like to help deliver the food to Loudoun Interfaith Relief, located in Leesburg, please call Kathy Fuller at (703) 777-8385. Save the date! Simbang Gabi -Filipino Advent Mass 2015

Simbang Gabi ,also known as the Misa de Gallo( mass of the rooster ) or Misa de Aguinaldo( mass of gifts), is a rich part of

the Philippines Christmas tradition. The Filipino immigrant have proudly introduced this beautiful tradition to the Church in United States. Since winter weather in most parts of the country makes it impractical to hold the Mass celebrations at dawn, local parishes have adapted the practice and celebrate Simbang Gabi in the evenings. Please join us Saturday December 19th at 7:30 pm. Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Fr. Mosimann. A pot luck reception will follow after the mass in the Parish Center. Families attending are asked to bring a dish to share with others. Committee volunteers are greatly needed from our parish to make this annual Advent Celebration a success. If you are interested in volunteering , please contact Theresa Purca (571) 209-0561 or Maria Powell (703) 737-0120.
