St. Paul BBQ-We Need Your Help!

Our celebration of St. Paul’s 100th anniversary will kick-off with the always popular St. Paul BBQ on Sunday afternoon

September 25. Save the date and consider helping out.

Please email [email protected] if you can help with any activities.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Youth Group

There will be no Youth Group today, Sunday September 4th.

Next Sunday, the World Youth Day thank you party will replace Youth Group. All young people are encouraged to

come along and see what WYD is all about. We will meet from 6:00-8:00pm in the Paul Parish Hall.

The first weekend of September is Labor Day weekend. Therefore, we will be collecting canned fruit and laundry detergent for the Wellesley Food Pantry on the 2nd

weekend of September. In October we will resume collecting on the first weekend.

Give something, however small, to the one in need. For it is not small to one who has nothing. Neither is it small

to God, if we have given what we could.” (St. Gregory Nazianzen) Next weekend (9/10 – 9/11) we will be collecting canned fruit and laundry detergent for the Wellesley Food Pantry. Your donations may be left in

the bins at the front entrance of the church. Thank you for your help and concern. As always the Wellesley Food Pantry thanks St Paul parishioners for their

consistent generosity. “Extend your mercy towards others, so that there can be no one in need whom you meet without helping. For what hope is there for us if

God should withdraw His Mercy from us?”

(St. Vincent de Paul)

High School Youth Music Group

The St Paul Youth Music Group will sing at the 9:00am mass on October 2nd.

Please consider joining this important church ministry. All 8th graders and above are welcome and invited to participate. It is

a great way for you to be involved in parish life. We will rehearse on Wednesday, September 28th at 7:30pm in

the church. You can just show up on the evening or email stpaulyouthgroup@gmail to let us know you are coming. We

practice once a month and sing at the 9:00am mass on the first Sunday of the month as well as the 4 teen masses during the

year and Confirmation masses. We especially encourage all students beginning their Confirmation program to come along - not only will you have fun, but your participation will count as your service for Confirmation!

Our Faith...Our Future Centennial Celebration

Saint Paul Parish 1916-2016

In 1912, St. Paul Mission registered 187 families, a total of 1044 persons. Rev. Leo Knapp, pastor of St. John Church,

recognizing that the growing Catholic community in Wellesley would soon warrant another parish. Two parcels of land opposite the Town Hall Park were secured. The first parcel was purchased in 1902 and included the land on which the church building, school, parish hall and parking area stand today. The second parcel was purchased in 1920 and contains the area where the rectory stands today. On August 10, 1915, ground was broken for the new church and construction began. The building was designed by Joseph McGinness and reflected a typical country church of English design, much like those found about Wells in Southern England. It possessed dignity, simplicity, and beauty in keeping with its setting in the Town of Wellesley. On Sunday, June 4,1916 the first Mass was celebrated in the new church. Later, on November 12,1916, the church was blessed and the cornerstone laid. Cardinal William O’Connell presided at this event.

YEAR OF MERCY: YEAR OF RCIA? Pope Francis dedicated this Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy to living out in our daily lives the mercy which God constantly extends to all of us. As he says, “Let us allow God to surprise us. He never tires of casting open the doors of his heart and of repeating that he loves us and wants to share his love with us.”

Are you ready to be surprised? Please consider the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. The doors of the RCIA are flung open wide for you if…

• You have been worshiping with us, but never officially took the step to become Catholic; • Have been away from the Church … and have now returned, but want to know more; • Have been a Catholic all your life, but never celebrated all of the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism,

Confirmation, Eucharist); • Have joined us from a different faith community and would now like to find out more about the Catholic

Church; • Are seeking a deeper personal relationship with Jesus but have never been baptized.

If you answer yes to any of these situations, please consider saying yes to joining us when we begin our journey this

REGULR OFFICE HOURS FOR

ST. JOHN & ST. PAUL BUSINESS OFFICES

RESUME THIS WEEK

Regular Business Office hours at St. John and St. Paul resume this week. The Parish offices will be open Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Save the Date! A PILGRIMAGE TO THE

HOLY DOORS

During the Holy Year of Mercy doors are to be opened in the Cathedrals of the world, doors of mercy. In the

Archdiocese of Boston, the Cathedral of the Holy Cross will be open for pilgrims to enter and receive the graces of the Holy Doors. Our St. John-St. Paul Collaborative

will be going on a tour of the Cathedral on Sunday,

October 23 at 2:00 p.m. All are invited to attend! More info to follow.

A holy door or porta sancta has been used since the 15th century as a ritual expression of conversion. Pilgrims pass through it as a gesture of leaving behind the past and crossing the threshold from sin to grace, from slavery to freedom, and from darkness to light.

ATTENTION:

St. John and St. Paul Parish Offices will be closed this Monday, September 5 for the Labor Day holiday.
