Love Begins Here

Could you use help around the house or yard? Have a project you can’t seem to get to?
We want to help and we are coming to Janesville July 1st - 4th and July 8th -13th
Contact us with the project you have in mind or with questions—SJV Faith Formation Office (608)755-1476 or [email protected]
Stewardship Corner: “This is My command-ment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” – JOHN 15:12-13- Do you love Jesus? Do you consider Him your friend? Jesus says that if we love Him we would be willing to offer whatever we have to Him, not because we want praise and glo-ry, but simply because we love Him. Does your giv-ing seem mechanical out of obligation or do you share freely out of love?
Welcome back George Wollinger: I am pleased to announce the George Wollinger is back on our Parish staff. George is our new DRE and Liturgy Co-ordinator. George is replacing Austin Edmondson as the DRE and will also serve as our Liturgy Coordina-tor, a job he held in the past. George does not need a lot of introduction, and we are pleased to have him back. Please be sure to extend a warm welcome to him when you see him.
Youth Corner What are mortal sins? A mortal sin is a serious
offence against God that deprives the soul of sancti-fying grace, which is necessary for salvation. (See Catechism of the Catholic Church #1874). Mortal sin also takes away all merits of any good actions done while we are in mortal sin. We are separated from God and cannot “earn” our way back grace by put-ting Him in our debt. We must instead receive His grace. This grace can be restored once we are recon-ciled to God by perfect contrition and in sacrament of reconciliation.
A sin is mortal when it involves serious matter (such as one of the Commandments – CCC 1858), when we sufficiently reflect on its seriousness, and when we give the full consent of our will in choosing to do it anyway. With mortal sin, we lose the virtue of charity (love). Mortal sins are like the nails that were driven into Jesus’ hands and feet. It is precisely because of these sins (past, present, and future) that He died on the cross. (Taken from “Did Adam and
Eve have Belly Buttons? By Matthew J. Pinto pp

May Devotion: Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mer-cy, hail, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve: to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus, O merci-ful, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! Amen.
Have a blessed week! Fr. Paul

From the Desk of the Principal
Band Concert The Catholic Saints Band will present their annual
spring concert on Monday, May 7th at 6:30 p.m. in our gym. Many 4-8th graders from our school will be per-forming. All are welcome! Come, see and hear our tal-ented musicians!
Last weekend was very special for many of our parish families as they celebrated the sacrament of First Communion with their child, and for some, children. If you attended any of the three Masses, I am sure you saw the joy in these children as they came forward in their beautiful attire.
Our second grade students continued to celebrate at our Thursday morning Mass. They came to school dressed in their First Communion outfits, proceeded into Mass as a class, and again celebrated the sacra-ment of Communion, but for the first time with all their classmates. Following Mass their class led a celebration of the Crowning of Mary. It was a beauti-ful service and certainly a week our second grade students and families will always remember.
Congratulations to all who celebrated First Com-munion.
Have a wonderful week. Chris Silha

Readings for Next Weekend
Acts 1:1-11
Ephesians 1:17-23
Mark 16-15-20
Next Sunday’s Gospel
You are encouraged to cut and post this Gospel
praying it daily and using it as quiet reflection.
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark
Jesus said to his disciples: “Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature. Who-ever believes and is baptized will be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned. These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will drive out demons, they will speak new languages. They will pick up serpents with their hands, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not harm them. They will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
So then the Lord Jesus, after he spoke to them, was taken up into heaven and took his seat at the right hand of God. But they went forth and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word through accompanying signs.
Take Time to Visit a Friend
Your support and attendance at Eucharistic Ado-ration on Tuesday evening and on Friday has increased and is appreciated. Thanks for dropping in for brief prayer visits and also for signing in at the Gathering Space lectern on Fridays for longer times to rest, reflect and pray before Jesus present on the altar. During these special times of Eucha-ristic Adoration “pray-ers” are always needed—
Jesus is waiting for you!
Eucharistic Adoration
It is our mission to convey a very rich and real experience of
God’s presence.
