ANNUAL CARNIVAL IS NEXT WEEKEND! – Next weekend is our annual Parish Carnival and the excitement is build-ing! Invite your friends and relatives to join you in all the fun! One of the most important parts of our annual carnival is the Raffle. The grand prize this year is $5,000, second prize is $1,000 and third prize is $500. There will also be other special prizes as well. If you are registered in the parish to receive envelopes then you should already have received your tickets in the mail. If you did not receive an envelope then please pick up your tickets after Mass today in the rectory or pick them up at the tables outside the church. It is absolutely imperative that all families in our parish sell at least 3 books of raffle tickets in order to make it a success. If at all possible, I would ask that you sell several other books as well. The raffle is our single biggest fundraiser of the year and it is the means by which we are able to continue to maintain the buildings of the parish plant. We have several repair and remodeling projects in the works which depend on the monies raised at the Carnival. May God reward you! RESPECT LIFE MONTH – October is designated by the American Bishops as Respect Life Month. There are special flyers by the doors of the church which will help all of us to do more to foster the respect of all human life from the moment of conception to natural death. Pray especially for an end to abortion in our land. MONTH OF THE HOLY ROSARY – Today is the Feast of the Holy Rosary. This is a beautiful devotion which allows us to meditate upon the mysteries in the life of Our Lord and His Blessed Mother. Saint John Paul II, of happy memory, wrote a beautiful Apostolic Letter in 2002 entitled Rosarium Virginis Mariam which I would highly recommend for your reading. It can be found at the Vatican website: www.vatican.va During this month of the Rosary, all of the children en-rolled in our Parish School as well as those in our Religious Education Program will receive a rosary and instruction on how to recite it. In our parish the rosary is prayed in common daily after the 8:00 a.m. Mass in English. It is also prayed in common after the 6:15 p.m. Mass in Spanish. If you come to daily Mass at 8:00 a.m. in English or at 6:15 p.m. in Spanish, consider staying and praying this beautiful devotion to our Blessed Mother. I strongly urge you also to pray the Rosary as a family especially this coming month but also throughout the year. Choose at least one night each week and pray the rosary as a family perhaps after dinner. Remember the famous Father Patrick Peyton who told us that “the family that prays together stays together!” In this week’s bulletin we have a special insert on the Rosary. Extra copies can be obtained at the tables by the doors of the church. SOUND SYSTEM PROBLEMS – Please know that we are well aware of the issues with our church’s sound system. Current-ly there are a couple of speakers in the ceiling that are not working. In addition, the connection to the speakers in the vestibule is also faulty. I know this is very frustrating! We are currently talking with several companies on fixing the current problems as well as getting bids for an entirely new system. This is part of the reason why we need to ensure that our annual Carnival is a great success. The proceeds of this carnival will go toward a new sound system. ¡EL CARNAVAL ES EL PROXIMO FIN DE SEMANA! -¡El próximo fin de semana es nuestro carnaval anual de la parroquia y la emoción está creciendo! ¡Inviten a sus amigos y familiares para que comparten la diversión con ustedes! La Rifa es una de las partes más importantes de nuestro carnaval anual. El gran premio de este año es de $5,000, el segundo premio es de $1,000 y el tercer premio es de $500. También habrá otros premios especiales. Si está registrado en la parroquia para recibir sobres, entonces ya debería haber recibido sus boletos por correo. Si no recibió un sobre, recoja sus boletos después de la Misa de hoy en la rectoría o recójalos en las mesas de fuera de la iglesia. Es absolutamente imprescindible que todas las familias de nuestra parroquia vendan al menos 3 libros de boletos de rifa para que sea un éxito. Si es posible, le pediría que también vendan otros libros. El sorteo es nuestra mayor recaudación de fondos del año y es el medio por el cual podemos continuar manteniendo los edificios de la planta parroquial. Tenemos varios proyectos de reparación y remodelación en las obras que dependen de los fondos recaudados en el Carnaval. ¡Que Dios les recompense! MES DE RESPETO A LA VIDA - El mes de octubre ha sido designado por los Obispos Americanos como Mes de Respeto a la Vida. Hay volantes especiales a las puertas de la iglesia que nos ayudarán a todos hacer más para fomentar el respeto de toda la vida humana desde el momento de la concepción hasta la muerte natural. Oremos especialmente por el fin del aborto en nuestra tierra. MES DEL SANTO ROSARIO - Hoy es la fiesta del Santo Rosario. Esta es una hermosa devoción que nos permite meditar sobre los misterios en la vida de Nuestro Señor y su Santísima Madre. San Juan Pablo II, de feliz memoria, escribió una hermosa Carta apostólica en 2002 titulada Rosarium Virginis Mariam, que recomendaría para sus lecturas. Se puede encontrar en el sitio web del Vaticano: www.vatican.va . Durante este mes del Rosario, todos los niños inscritos en nuestra Escuela Parroquial, así como los de nuestro Programa de Educación Religiosa, recibirán un rosario e instrucciones sobre cómo recitarlo. En nuestra parroquia, el rosario se reza en común todos los días después de la Misa de las 8:00 a.m. en inglés. También se reza en común después de las 6:15 p.m. Misa en español. Les pido encarecidamente que también recen el Rosario en familia, especialmente este mes que viene, pero también durante todo el año. Elija al menos una noche cada semana y rezen el rosario en familia, quizás después de la cena. Recuerde al famoso Padre Patrick Peyton que nos dijo que "¡la familia que reza unida se mantiene unida!" En el boletín tenemos un folleto especial sobre el Rosario. Se pueden obtener copias adicionales en las mesas junto a las puertas de la iglesia. PROBLEMAS DEL SISTEMA DE SONIDO– Estamos muy conscientes de los problemas con el sistema de sonido en nuestra iglesia. Actualmente hay un par de bocinas de altavoz en el techo que no funcionan. Además, la conexión a los altavoces en el vestíbulo también es defectuosa. Sé que esto es muy frustrante! Actualmente estamos hablando con varias compañías para solu-cionar los problemas actuales y obtener ofertas para un sistema completamente nuevo. Esto es parte de la razón por la que nece-sitamos asegurarnos de que nuestro Carnaval anual sea un gran éxito. In 1531, when the indigenous peoples of Mexico were subjugated and the practice of human sacrifice was still a recent memory, the Mother of God appeared to St. Juan Die-go as a pregnant native woman, now known as Our Lady of Guadalupe. She sent him with miraculous flowers in his cloak to tell the bishop to build a church where people could receive her Son and her

loving, tender care. When St. Juan Diego opened the cloak before the bishop, an image of Our Lady was revealed that remains to this day. The chapel was quickly built, millions embraced Christianity, and the Church increased its protection of the indigenous peoples. By embrac-ing the mission entrusted to him, St. Juan Diego helped bring Christ’s transforming love to cultures gripped by oppression and death.

Today, we again see the dignity of human life disregarded. Un-born children are destroyed through abortion, and ill people are en-couraged and assisted to take their own lives. How do we respond? The essence of our identity is that we are created in God’s image and likeness and loved by Him. Nothing can diminish the priceless worth of any human life.

Every person is cherished. God creates every person for eternal union with Himself and continually invites us to embrace a loving relationship with Him. Every person is chosen. We are called to be messengers of God’s love, treating one another as cherished and cho-sen by Him. In doing so, we help build a culture that respects all hu-man life. Every person is sent. Like St. Juan Diego, let us embrace our daily mission to help others encounter God’s transforming, life-giving love.

Our Lady of Guadalupe will be renewed. A new image will be installed. Therefore,

the current picture of the Virgin will be raffled to acquire a new replica. The raffle will take place on October 14, 2018, at the

parish carnival. Ticket cost will be $10. The Guadalupe Society will be selling

tickets after the coming Sunday Masses.

En los proximos meses se estará renovan-do la Capilla de Nuestra Señora de Gua-

dalupe. Se instalará una nueva imagen. Por lo tanto, el cuadro actual de la Virgen

se estará rifando para adquirir una nueva replica. La rifa se llevará acabo el dia 14 de Octubre 2018,

en el carnaval. Costo del boleto será $10. La Sociedad Guadalupana estará vendiendo los boletos en los proximos

domingos después de cada Misa.

En 1531, cuando los indígenas de México habían sido conquistados y la práctica del sacrificio humano todavía era un recuerdo reciente, la Madre de Dios se apareció a Juan Diego como una indígena embarazada, ahora conocida como Nuestra Señora de Guada-lupe. La Virgen lo envió con flores milagrosas en su tilma para que le pidiera al obispo que construyera una iglesia donde las personas

pudieran recibir a su Hijo y el amor y cuidado compasivo de ella. Cuando Juan Diego abrió la tilma ante el obispo se reveló la imagen de Nuestra Señora que vemos aún hoy. La capilla se construyó, mil-lones se hicieron cristianos y la Iglesia aumentó su protección por los indígenas. Al abrazar la misión que se le confió, san Juan Diego ayudó a llevar el amor transformador de Cristo a culturas atrapadas en la opresión y la muerte.

Hoy nuevamente vemos el desprecio por la vida humana. Niños son abortados antes de nacer y los enfermos reciben ayuda y apoyo para quitarse la vida. ¿Cómo respondemos? La esencia de nuestra identidad es que somos creados a imagen y semejanza de Dios y so-mos amados por Él. Nada puede disminuir el valor inestimable de cada vida humana. Cada persona es atesorada. Dios crea a cada perso-na para la unión eterna con Él y continuamente nos invita a tener una relación amorosa con Él. Cada persona es elegida.

Estamos llamados a ser embajadores del amor de Dios, tratándonos unos a otros como personas atesoradas y elegidas por él. Al hacerlo, ayudamos a construir una cultura que respete toda la vida humana. Cada persona es enviada. Como san Juan Diego, abracemos nuestra misión diaria de ayudar a otros a encontrar el amor de Dios, que transforma y da vida.
