Nose, ear and eye drops and cushions when sittingwalking sticks, handrails and new dental fittings,Church magazines now all tied up with string,These are a few of your favourite things.Hearing aids and cataracts and false teeth and glassesSteradent and liniment and those free bus passes.Pacemakers, Zimmer frames and porches with swings,These will be some of your favourite things.

When the pipes leak, when the bones creak, when the knees go badYou’ll simply remember your days at St James’, then you might not feel, so bad.

Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions,No spicy hot food or food cooked with on-ions, Bathrobes and slippers, and creams that don’t sting,These are a few of your favourite things.Sundays are free now; you do as best pleases,We’ve now got Perris; you know how he teases,Afternoon kick offs, no sermons to write, seems that the future is looking quite bright.Just odd weddings; and or funerals; cov-ering holidays,You’ll keep your hand in with the job you’ve just had,Retirement won’t feel so bad.

Prayer:Lord, despite the great divide of centuries, our land, our lives, our hopes, desires and our sins are little different from those of the people to whom your great prophets foretold your message. We give thanks for their lives and their witness and help us to hear their messages within the context of our lives today. Amen
