Talk of the Town . . . Good afternoon and welcome to Brocstedes Park for this FA Cup with Budweiser, Extra Preliminary Round against our landlords Ashton Athletic. May I open by welcoming our “visitors” to a ground they will be very familiar with! This afternoon sees the start of the most famous cup competition in the world and a chance for us “minnows” to dream of reaching the first round proper and beyond an achievement that Town have never quite managed as yet but maybe this could be our year! It has not been long since we were last here on Tuesday to partake in the first derby match of the season as we hosted Wigan Robin Park, a side who showed wholesale changes to last term. We took the game to them early and were two goals to the good with less than 10 minutes on the clock as first Paul Cook-Hannah linked with Andy Mawdsley with the full back showing a wingers finish to find the bottom corner and then Connor Sanderson took advantage of some defensive hesitancy to steel the ball from the keeper and find the unguarded net. Town made it three with 37 minutes gone when another fine move saw Ste Milne fire home but a the Robins were given somewhat of a lifeline just before the break when an own goal saw them pull one back.

The start of the second half saw an expected surge from the visitors which Town withstood and a late goal from Milne completed the scoring and saw us record our first victory of the season in emphatic style. It was an important result to give the side a bit of confidence coming into this afternoon’s FA Cup tie, the prize for the victors will be a visit to former North West Counties League outfit Curzon Ashton in a fortnights time. If this afternoon’s tie ends in a draw then we will be back here

as the visitors on Tuesday evening for the replay and the scheduled match at Congleton Town will be postponed. Similarly if Congleton’s visit to Maltby Main were to end in a draw then the scheduled league contest will be off on Tuesday even with a winner either way in our tie, so keep an eye on the usual media outlets for details in relation to the forthcoming matches! Finally, let’s get behind Town this afternoon and hopefully cheer them into the next round of the competition. Enjoy the game . . . Jeff Voller

In Town Today . . . Ashton Athletic Football Club was founded in 1968 and playing in the Wigan Sunday League - winning every Division in consecutive seasons and many cup competitions before switching to the Warrington League on Saturdays where similar success was sustained. The Club developed Brocstedes Park and was admitted to the Lancashire Combination, before becoming a founder member of the North West Counties League when the Combination merged with the Cheshire league in 1982. Unfortunately financial constraints prevented the required ground improvements to be completed, and the Club was relegated into the Manchester league Division One in 1986.

The drop of two leagues resulted in the majority of the playing staff moving to other clubs and for numerous years the club endeavoured to re-build. Players came and went, lacking the Club loyalty that had brought success to the Club in the 1970`s and early 80`s until the Committee embraced an ambitious youth development policy in 1999. The Club is now at the end of a ten-year development plan to enhance its recreational facilities and expand the Club, in particular its junior section. Eight years ago the Club had two teams, 50 members, one mediocre pitch with dilapidated clubhouse and changing rooms. Since then the Club members have worked tirelessly to progress the Club within its means, and with some help from external grant sources. Assistance from the Football foundation, Awards for All programme, and Wigan Council enabled a series of improvements to be completed. The main pitch was re-drained, a second pitch acquired/improved, new changing rooms and Clubhouse built, disabled access provided and other improvements made to the grounds. More recently the ground has been brought up to the necessary Ground Grading for re-entry into the NWCFL, in time for the start of the 2006/7 season and further improvements have provided additional seating. The 2008/2009 season also sees a further progression of the Club, having been promoted to the Premier Division of the North West Counties League. We will again take to the national stage, having been accepted in the FA Cup competition after last season`s debut in the FA Vase which proved very lucrative for the Club, progressing through 3 stages and beating 2 teams from higher leagues in the process. Last season also saw cup success for the Club retaining the Atherton Charity Cup at the end of the season. A new vision for the Club is under discussion to further develop the Club and these will include plans for improvements to the access road, new junior changing rooms, and

. . . Ashton Athletic FC additional playing fields for the junior section and a proposed girls/Ladies section. The main ground is also scheduled for enhancement works with additional covered spectator areas. The Club is a voluntary organisation run by a Committee of 14 alongside approximately 25 coaches and managers. Any money raised by the Club has been ploughed back into improving the facilities and developing the youth section. The Club now has a total membership of more than 400. We have 9 junior teams consisting of approximately 160 children who take advantage of the improvement of our now excellent facilities, whilst hundreds of children and adults from opposition teams also benefit from the continually improving facilities. In addition to the 2 open age teams occasional run outs for the veteran`s team, providing a further 20 members, the highlight being the now annual Challenge match against the Past Players of Wigan Athletic FC.

The Club is keen to maintain the pace of development of the club and future plans will enable increased activity at the Club, additional Junior teams and a much safer and secure environment in particular for spectators and Children. The Club is also committed and positively working towards an application to the FA for Charter Standard, and an intensive Coach Education Programme is well under way. Chairman’s Notes . . . Good afternoon and a very warm welcome to Brocstedes Park, for this FA Cup with Budweiser Extra Preliminary Round encounter with our landlords, friends and rivals Ashton Athletic. Let’s hope their players, officials and supporters along with our own followers are treated to an entertaining game. Many thanks to today’s match and match ball sponsors Cinema Bar who have recently opened in the former Plaza building in Duke Street, St Helens. The bar offers a wide range of continental beers, fine wines, premium spirits, cocktails, food platters and table service. One of the Cinema Bar business partners is local hero Andy Reid who has already visited the club to deliver a motivational talk to the players and staff prior to the season start and we plan to develop our partnership as the season unfolds.. The club is also delighted welcome to the game Cllr Andy Bowden, the Mayor of St Helens and Cllr David Baines who will be our guests today and we are hoping to join forces to undertake some joint charity fundraising later in the season - details to follow. Tuesday evening saw the lads record their opening win of the league season courtesy of a fine 4-1 victory over near-neighbours and ‘derby’ rivals Wigan Robin Park. Early goals from Andy Mawdsley and Ste Milne settled some nerves and Connor Sanderson added a third on 37 minutes before the visitors were thrown a life line when an own goal reduced the arrears in first half injury time. The second period proved to be a tight affair but Town secured the spoils when Ste Milne hit his second of the night five minutes from time. I am sure the management team will be hoping the result and performance will provide a platform for today’s game and the season ahead. Like ourselves, Ashton Athletic have had a mixed start to the campaign but I am sure their new management trio of Jay Foulds, Ben Kay and Dougie Pitts will be encouraged by the performances. The ‘Yellows’ ran out 1-2 winners at Glossop on the opening day, followed by a 0-1 home loss to AFC Liverpool. A 1-1 home draw with Silsden secured a point while this week they travelled to Runcorn Town were a late goal give the home side a narrow 2-1 win. Of course Ben and Dougie are both former Town players and two thoroughly nice lads and apart from when we cross swords on the field of play I hope they have a great season. A place in the FA Cup Preliminary Round awaits the winners this afternoon and a tough trip to Evostick outfit Curzon Ashton. Also on offer for today’s victors is £1500 prize money which no doubt will be welcomed by both clubs. It’s been a good week for the club, Tuesday evening saw our Youth team record a 0-6 friendly win at Parkdale Sidac and twenty fours later Nick Robinson’s Reserves started their West Cheshire League campaign with a great 3-0 home win over Rainhill Town; Andy Gillespie scoring a hat-trick. Incidentally, the Rainhill team had former Town players Liam Pearson and Liam Ryder among their ranks. Barring replays we will be at Booth Street, home of Congleton Town on Tuesday evening, 7.45pm kick off. Enjoy the game John McKiernan Chairman, St Helens Town AFC

Penalty miss costs Town a point at Winsford Saturday 10th August 2013 Winsford United 2-1 St Helens Town

St. Helens Town were still looking for their first victory of the season on Saturday, after losing 2-1 to Winsford United at the Barton Stadium. They took to the field without captain Lee Crompton and were also missing Ste Edwards and Greg Harrison, whilst goalkeeper Ryan Taylor was completing a three match suspension. In an eventful, end-to-end game, Winsford claimed the league points thanks mainly to two defensive errors in the first-half and a missed penalty by Town in the second. Apart from those three pivotal moments, there was nothing to choose between the sides in a game

St. Helens could easily have won, in a much-improved performance. Connor Sanderson had Town’s first chance after 6 minutes when his powerful shot was blocked by Winsford keeper Andy Jones only for the ball to ricochet off the St. Helens striker for a goal-kick. The next few minutes saw Town’s on-loan keeper, Josh Clark, playing his last match of a three game spell, called into action to make two spectacular saves following mistakes in the visitors’ defence. St. Helens roared back after 19 minutes, but Lewis Coyle could only find the side netting. Town attacked again and Steve Milne had his shot saved by the advancing goalkeeper and the rebound fell nicely for Kenny Cooper to open the scoring with a shot from 25 yards. Winsford fought back at the other end and Clark made another three good saves in quick succession. The home side equalised on the half-hour when Andy Crompton beat the offside trap, found Clark off his line and shot into the empty net. Now St. Helens swept into the attack and three different players all had good shots saved by Jones in the same move. Town were in the ascendancy at this stage as they looked to retake the lead. Shaun Judge, playing at full-back, beat a number of opponents in a wonderful run over 40 yards before his shot was deflected for a corner and from the resulting play, the same player headed narrowly over the bar. It was something of a surprise, then, that Winsford took the lead right on half-time when another defensive mistake left Clark stranded and, drawing the keeper, Ben Brooks scored off the far post to send his side in 2-1 up at the break. More goals were expected in the second period, but there was to be no further score, despite a number of good chances for both sides. Sanderson had a shot blocked three minutes into the second-half and Cole Ashton cleared off his line to save a certain score after 53 minutes. Town pressed forward again and centre-back Chris Williams’ header was handled by a defender in the Winsford box three minutes later but the usually reliable Williams pulled his spot kick wide of the left-hand post, his first penalty miss for his side. That miss was to prove costly in the final analysis as chances were saved at both ends by the two impressive keepers. Even the introduction of three substitutes for Town, Ste Bowen, Kyle Ross and Neil Weaver could not make any difference and a game which appeared winnable at times slipped away frustratingly.

A Brief History . . . The original Town club was in existence from 1901 to 1928, but George Fryer and a number of local businessmen decided to re-form the club in 1946. They obtained a lease on the Hoghton Road ground in Sutton, adjacent to St. Helens Junction station on the Liverpool to Manchester railway line, took over a local St. Helens Combination team, Derbyshire Hill Rovers, signing a number of players from other clubs and entered the Liverpool County Combination in the 1947/48 season, playing against Everton “A” and Liverpool “A” and several reserve sides from the leading non-league clubs in the Merseyside area. Success was first attained in May 1949 when Runcorn were defeated in the final of the George Mahon Cup, played at the Prescot Cables ground. The following season, 1949/50, Town were elevated to the Second Division of the Lancashire Combination and they were promoted as Champions in only their second season to the First Division, where they ran up against teams such as Ashton United, Nelson and New Brighton, newly relegated from the Football League. Sadly, Town were themselves relegated in their first season and although promoted briefly again in 1955/56, they spent most of their early years in the Second Division. Improvements were quickly made to the facilities at Hoghton Road in the early years, but in November 1952 the decision was taken to re-locate to the former St. Helens Recs’ rugby league ground at City Road in order to further their ambitions of reaching the Football League. Initially, the move resulted in some encouraging crowds, but the club had a change of heart and returned to Sutton in the October 1953. The ground was purchased and further developed and a social club and floodlights were added in later years. Town were Champions of the Lancashire Combination in 1971/72 season, losing only one game, finishing 6 points clear of Accrington Stanley. 1975 brought a switch to the Cheshire League, where they remained until the formation of the North West Counties League in 1982 and St. Helens Town is the only club to feature in the top division of that league throughout its existence although, after a very good start, they very nearly lost that proud record last

season. The club’s major achievement was victory in the FA Vase at Wembley in 1987. After a stuttering start in the Preliminary Round with a 5-4 extra-time win over Colne Dynamoes, further home successes over General Chemicals, Wren Rovers, Guisborough Town and Wythenshawe Amateurs, led to wins at Wisbech Town, at home to Rainworth Miners Welfare, away to Falmouth Town (after a replay) and in the away leg at Emley when, following a 1-0 home defeat in the first-leg, a 2-0 win in Yorkshire secured a Wembley Final against local rivals Warrington Town, who were dispatched 3-2 with goals from Phil Layhe (2) and Brian Rigby. St. Helens Town boast an impressive “Hall of Fame”, including legendary goalkeeper and former German Prisoner-of-War Bert Trautmann, who signed for Manchester City over 60 years ago and who went on to play the game of his life in the 1956 FA Cup Final,

despite breaking his neck in the latter stages. Bill Foulkes was transferred to Manchester United, where he had a glittering career, surviving the Munich Air Disaster in 1958, in which

. . . of St Helens Town AFC

he bravely rescued some of his stricken team-mates. John Connelly, an England squad member in the victorious 1966 World Cup campaign, was sold to Burnley and he later moved to join Foulkes at Old Trafford. Other future stars, groomed at St. Helens Town, included John Quinn (Sheffield Wednesday), Geoff Nulty (Burnley, Newcastle United and Everton) and, most recently, ace goal scorer Dave Bamber, who began and ended his league career at Blackpool and who played in all four divisions of the Football League. Captain of the FA Vase winning team was Tommy O’Neil, who began his league career playing alongside George Best, Denis Law and Bobby Charlton at Manchester United. Town sold their Hoghton Road ground in 2000 to move in with St. Helens Rugby League Club at their Knowsley Road base. Their farewell appearance at Sutton produced a 1-0 win over Champions Vauxhall Motors and the initial campaign at Knowsley Road got off to a cracking start, with Town leading the table for most of the season, before finishing in a rather disappointing fourth place. Recent seasons have been more of a struggle, ninth place in 2009/10 being the best finish since. Season 2010-11 saw Town slide to 16th and in 2010/11 next to bottom, when they would have been relegated, but for Flixton’s decision to resign from the league. Town began the 2012-13 season under new manager Ian Granite, who brought in a new team and coaching set-up who battled well to avoid relegation. Though the club have the benefit of an 80-year ground-sharing agreement with Saints, they have been unable to re-locate to the new stadium at Langtree Park and having spent over two seasons sharing Ashton Town’s ground at Edge Green Street a new ground share agreement has been brokered with fellow Premier Division side Ashton Athletic to cover their immediate future as plans for a return to St Helens continue.

Hearts and Goals . . . St Helens Town has a new high-profile national charity partner for the 2013/14 season after joining up with Hearts & Goals, a lifesaving campaign for which Fabrice Muamba is ambassador. The club has forged a new partnership with Arrhythmia Alliance, the charity behind Hearts & Goals,a national campaign to tackle the UK’s biggest killer sudden cardiac arrest, by helping communities place lifesaving public-access AEDs (automated external defibrillators).

The campaign’s ambassador, former Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba, suffered a sudden cardiac arrest on the football pitch in March 2012 and went on to make a remarkable recovery thanks to prompt treatment with CPR and an AED. Everyone at the club was so moved by his experiences and the work he and the charity has done through Hearts & Goals, Town want to raise as much money as possible for the campaign by holding a series of fundraising events throughout the season and beyond, as well as dedicating a percentage of all incoming sponsorship deals to the charity. Sudden cardiac arrest claims 100,000 lives in the UK every year and AEDs, like the one used on Fabrice on the pitch at White Hart Lane, increase a person’s chance of surviving from just 5% to 50% if they suffer a sudden cardiac arrest. The devices do not require training and can be used by anyone to shock a person’s heart back into its normal rhythm in the event of someone suffering a sudden cardiac arrest. Arrhythmia Alliance has already helped communities up and down the UK place public-access AEDs as part of Hearts & Goals. The devices are placed in secure cabinets which are logged with local ambulance services and available to anyone in the community 24/7. In the event of an emergency anyone who phones 999 is then given immediate access to the lifesaving defibrillator. St Helens Town Commercial Manager, Darryl Picton, said: “The idea to forge this partnership came from Fabrice’s story.

. . . Our Charity Partner “Never before have I witnessed such an event that has brought football fans, clubs and players together in support of one man as what happened on that horrific day at White Hart Lane. “The story touched the hearts of everyone and transcended sport. Those events really hit home to everyone at St Helens Town how quickly and unexpectedly tragedy can

strike in a community and having access to this essential equipment will save hundreds of lives. “We are proud to be associated with Hearts and Goals and with Fabrice, and we will work tirelessly throughout the year to raise every penny poss ib l e for the campaign.” Trudie Lobban MBE, Founder and CEO of Arrhythmia Alliance, said: “We are absolutely delighted St Helens Town AFC have chosen our Hearts & Goals

campaign as their official charity campaign. “Hearts & Goals focuses on tackling the UK’s biggest killer, sudden cardiac arrest, which kills 100,000 people in the UK every year. “We have already been able to help communities up and down the country place lifesaving AEDs (automated external defibrillators) and with partners like St Helens we can continue this work. “It is clear all involved at the club are very passionate about the campaign and we are delighted to welcome them on board.” A host of fundraising events are already planned throughout the year, including a Question of Sport tournament evening on Saturday 24th August and a Race Night on Friday 18th October. For full details of events or to make a donation to the campaign contact Darryl Picton on 07908 833 554 or by email at [email protected] Visit www.heartsandgoals.org for more information.

Getting back to Business . . . Its been another busy week on and off the pitch for St Helens Town. With fixtures coming thick and fast, this past Tuesday night saw us get 3 points on the board for the first time this season with an emphatic 4-1 victory over Wigan Robin Park Town dominated the game and were rewarded for a much improved performance with a confidence boosting win ahead of today’s clash. Off the field, things continue to progress on a commercial front with a number of match sponsors secured this week, and I can also confirm that the club are in discussions with Premier League contenders Manchester City with regard to staging a Memorial Match in memory of our iconic Club President Bert Trautmann who recently passed away. Bert of course transferred to City from St Helens Town and went on to perform legendary heroics in the 1956 FA Cup Final, playing the final 17 minutes with a broken neck, and a City Legends XI will face St Helens Town in the game to mark the loss of the man who was a hero to fans of both clubs. The venue has yet to be confirmed for the match but further details will be announced over the coming weeks on our club website, Facebook and Twitter as well as through the NWCFL website and local media. Today, we take a break from league action to host our landlords Ashton Athletic in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round. It should be an enjoyable day with plenty of banter flying around due to the close connections between the clubs. Not only are Athletic our landlords, but former Town captains Ben Kay and Dougie Pitts form part of their new look management team, as well as having a couple of other former Town players in their ranks.

We also welcome today the Mayor of St Helens, Councillor Andy Bowden, and my old friend Councillor David Baines to one of our games for the first time, and we hope to work closely with Andy and David on a number of projects to raise both the clubs profile and our increase our fundraising efforts in the town throughout the coming year. Our warm welcome extends to each and every one of you visiting Brocstedes Park today for this eagerly anticipated cup clash and we hope you enjoy the game. Please keep an eye out for further details of the Trautmann Memorial Match as well as our other fundraising events. Tickets are now on sale for our Comedy and Curry Night on Saturday 7th December at Windleshaw Sports Club, St Helens.

Warm regards Darryl Picton St Helens Town AFC, Commercial Manager

St Helens Town . . . Today’s Extra Preliminary Round of the FA Cup – sponsored again this season by Budweiser - brings Town together with Ashton Athletic for the first time in the competition. The clubs have met in North West Counties League matches on 10 previous occasions, most recently on 24th November 2012, a 2-2 here at Brocstedes Park in the NWCFL Premier Division. Earlier in the season (4th September 2012) the two clubs had recorded an identical score line at Edge Green Street - Town’s Ste Edwards scored 3 goals in the two games. Of the remaining eight league meetings both clubs have won 4 each. If today’s game is drawn, there will be a replay back here next Tuesday evening. Prize money of £1500 awaits today’s winners, as well as a Preliminary Round tie away to Curzon Ashton. Both clubs battled against relegation for most of last season and Town eventually ended 1 point and 1 place better off than today’s opponents. There’s been quite a few personnel changes since the teams last met but it looks like being a tight game. Town have featured regularly in the First Qualifying Round since the club was re-formed in 1946. Their reformation actually resulted in a false start as they were unable to raise a side against Prescot Cables that season and forfeited the tie but their debut in the competition came the following season in 1947/48 which resulted in a loss again to Cables but in 1948/49, they won through three rounds, including a 1-0 win at Formby, but Bangor City (a frequent stumbling block over the next few years) won 3-0 at Hoghton Road in the Second Qualifying Round. The following year, in Bert Trautmann’s final match for Town, Bangor City again won 3-0 at Hoghton Road, in the First Qualifying Round. In 1952/53, a trip to Bangor resulted in a 2-0 defeat and the following year the clubs met again in the Preliminary Round at City Road: the game ended 2-2, but Town lost the replay 5-1. The next occasion Town reached the First Qualifying Round was in 1957/58, when they lost 3-5 at home to Llandudno and the same team put Town out the following season at the Council Field, this time by 3-0. Between 1961/62 and 1970/71, Town had the good fortune to avoid the Preliminary Round altogether, but only three times did they progress to the Second Qualifying Round, where they lost at Altrincham (4-1 in 1964/65) and at home twice to Skelmersdale United, 0-3 in 1965/66 and 0-1 in 1968/69. Prescot Cables (twice), Ashton United (twice), Earlestown, Rhyl, Chorley, Droylsden and Rossendale United were our conquerors in between. Skelmersdale again, Rhyl once more, New Brighton, Oswestry (after

two replays) and Macclesfield accounted for Town at the First Qualifying stage in the remaining years of the 1970s. The 1980s was undoubtedly the best decade for Town in the FA Cup. In 1980/81, wins at Southport (3-1) and Leyland Motors (4-0) set up a Third Qualifying Round clash against Fleetwood Town at Hoghton Road, but Town went out 0-1. Although a 4-0 defeat at home to Bootle in 1982/83 was a

. . . in the FA Cup disappointing result, two years later a 2-0 win over Congleton led to a Second Qualifying Round game at Formby, where another 1-0 defeat was the order of the day. 1985/86 saw Town get within touching distance of the First Round Proper when wins at Colwyn Bay by 3-0, at home to Eastwood Hanley (2-0) and at Leek Town (1-0) took Town to the Fourth Qualifying Round for the first and only time in their history. Morecambe were the opponents and a 1-1 draw was achieved at Christie Park. York City awaited the winners in the First Round but, sadly, Town slipped to a 1-0 home defeat in the replay. The Second Qualifying Round was reached again the following year (Town’s FA Vase winning season) when, having thumped Heanor Town 6-0, Armthorpe Welfare were the winners in another Hoghton Road replay. 1987/88 saw another memorable campaign as Town reached the Third Qualifying Round, going out 2-3 at Northwich Victoria, having seen off Ilkeston after two replays and Horwich RMI after another drawn game. The last two decades have seen only modest progress by Town in the premier knock-out competition. On only 4 occasions since 1987 have St. Helens reached the Second Qualifying Round and every time the club has been beaten. In 1993/94, there was a 2-1 defeat at Knowsley United, Ryhope CA won 2-1 in 1997/98, Droylsden 6-0 in 1998/99 and, most recently, in 2005/06, having defeated Crook Town 3-0 in the Preliminary Round and Northallerton Town 3-2 away after a 3-3 home draw, Alfreton Town were 2-0 winners at Knowsley Road. Town are pictured opposite as part of the BBCs Road to Wembley when Everton’s Dave Watson came to Hoghton Road with the famous trophy prior to Town’s tie with Bootle. The last two seasons have been disappointing, in 2011-12 Town slipped to a disappointing 0-2 home defeat to bottom club Atherton LR in the Extra Preliminary Round at Edge Green Street. While last season they were routed 1-5 when Division One side Abbey Hey were the visitors at the same stage. Just prior to this in season 2009-10, they went out after extra time in a Preliminary Round replay at Glossop, the drawn game proving to be Town’s last ever at Knowsley Road (pictured above), having overcome Nostell Miners Welfare in a penalty shoot out after extra time could not split the teams in the home replay. In 2008-09, Town made the First Qualifying Round, beating Parkgate 3-1 and then Colwyn Bay 4-2 in a famous victory at Llanelian Road, before falling 1-3 to Cammell Laird.

Club News . . . Win a Toyota Car for a Week! That’s the incentive for St. Helens Town players throughout the 2013-14 season! St. Helens Town is delighted to announce an extension to their recently agreed sponsorship deal with Johnsons Toyota Liverpool. In addition to becoming the club’s main sponsor, Johnsons Toyota Liverpool, the Bootle based car dealership has now agreed to sponsor the club’s ‘Player of the Month’ award. The club will present their NWCFL Premier Division monthly nomination with a framed certificate and a bottle of ‘bubbly’ but the added bonus will be provided by Johnsons Toyota Liverpool who will supply each winner with a brand new car for a week. Town Commercial and Sponsorship Manager Darryl Picton

said, ‘It’s a unique sponsorship deal and something that was extremely popular with players a couple of seasons ago! There will be some excellent publicity for the club and Johnsons and it will be a great experience for the players.’ He added, ‘The 2013-14 season will see club officials and supporters vote for each monthly winner and one lucky fan will get to present the car keys at one of Town’s home games’. Gareth Shone (pictured above with Town Chairman John McKiernan), General Manager at Johnsons Toyota Liverpool said, ‘We are always looking for ways to promote our brand and support the club and the ‘win-a-Toyota-for-a-week’ sponsorship will give the players some added incentive and reward for their endeavours as well as giving the Toyota brand some valuable marketing.’ He added, ‘Each monthly winner will get the VIP treatment, choose a car from our extensive range, have their photograph taken collecting their car and spend a week experiencing the quality offered by Toyota.’

St Helens Town Football Club is delighted to announce a new kit partnership with Umbro Teamwear. Commercial and Sponsorship Manager Darryl Picton said, “Like many clubs at this time of the year we have been searching around for the best deals on playing

and training kit. We were looking for exceptional quality and a great price and we’ve found this at Umbro Teamwear. I had a meeting with Dave Kay, the National Kit Manager of Umbro Teamwear and was impressed with Umbro's plans for the future and after a negotiating a fantastic deal for the club, St Helens Town is proud to announce it will be providing Umbro kits for its senior teams.

Town Chairman John McKiernan, clearly delighted with the new deal, went on to add, "We are extremely proud to be developing a strong relationship with such an iconic brand as Umbro and we look forward to working with them.”

The new St Helens Town kit will be launched at the start of the 2013-14 season and replica shirts will be available via the club shop.
