Zoom Etiquette

The following helpful hints will ensure best results for all when using zoom.

1. Please click on mute. Only turn off mute if you have been asked to read in the service. Then click on mute after finishing reading.

2. At the end of the service I will turn the mute off so you can chat to one another if you wish for 10 minutes.

3. It is advised that you switch off your video unless

speaking. 4. Use the “raisehand” feature when you would like to

make a comment or ask a question. 5. Please turn mobile phones to silent. 6. Find a comfortable place to sit during the service. 7. Every endeavour will be made to limit the service to

40 minutes. 8. Please do not try to adjust your controls once the

service starts. 9. It is good to connect no later than 5 minutes before

the schedule time. Dress, I suggest, as if you were

going to church.

Christ is Risen. He is Risen Indeed. Alleluia, Alleluia! I want to begin my letter by expressing my thanks to everyone who assisted in our Easter Worship through the medium of Zoom technology. We have all been on a steep learning curve and risen to the occasion despite the hiccups and the need to adapt our liturgies to the technology. A number of people have asked for a copy of the sermons for the Easter period. I have not distributed them but if you would like a copy please let me know via SMS text or email. I am happy to provide them. “The readings for the second Sunday of Easter feel like a bit of a time warp between two distinct periods in history. The Gospel of John is told in real-time, as we witness the disciples on the evening of Easter Sunday holed up in an upper room in great fear. In the Acts of the Apostles, the writer provides a historical account of the resurrection of the Lord to inspire future generations of his great witness and presence among us. In order to grasp the Lord’s presence following the crucifixion, human senses must be employed, followed by a great dose of faith. As we continue to celebrate these great fifty days of Easter, we are encouraged to leave our rooms of fear, wrap ourselves in the love of the risen Christ, and boldly proclaim that Jesus is alive and will be with us until the end of the ages. Alleluia!” The Church Wardens and I have recently met to discuss ongoing arrangements for worship. The Victorian Premier has extended the social isolation requirements until the 12th May and this means the church and parish property will remain closed until this date. Brenda and I will continue pastoral visits including Holy Communion. There are restrictions associated with this. If you would like a visit, please ring me on 0419371613. I understand that you may be having difficulty downloading and or printing the order of service. In future, the pew bulletin will be sent in two forms. One as a word document and the other as a PDF. This should allow you to download in whatever form you like and suits. Each week by Wednesday evening or Thursday morning you should receive the documents. The first part will include times of services and the ID and password. Please remember that you will not be able to log in until I start the service. This will occur 15 minutes before the service begins. It is important for technical reasons that you log in before the starting time of the service so to avoid any hiccups. The current challenges to our community life will, I have no doubt bring some lasting changes to the ordering not only of our life here at St Georges, but the state and nation. One of these hopefully will be the treatment of asylum seekers, the unemployed and those who are on disability pensions. We must not be allowed to return to old discriminations and

abuse of those who are on the margins of society, many with complex and challenging’s needs. Health services will also I suggest come for further scrutiny. While we have one of the best and accessible health services in the world in our global environment Australia like other countries will need to address our preparedness for future events in our globally connected world. While social isolation rules may be relaxed in the days ahead, the long-term impact on the economy and particularly those who have lost their jobs, struggling to pay mortgages and rent will continue for some time. I know even in a suburb like Malvern and others from which our parishioners come from, this will be an outcome and struggle for many. Let us all continue to do what we can to assist those who need our support as well as governments at this time. I am thinking of conducting a Zoom study on the Gospel of Matthew. If you are interested, please let me know. We can drink our coffee while we chat. Have you thought about using Zoom technology to speak with other parishioners? I did this on Easter Day, speaking with our family via zoom both at home and in London. Worship times this week by Zoom will be: 19th April Sunday 8.00am - Said Eucharist 10.00am - Eucharist with Hymns 23rd April Thursday 10.15am Eucharist Please see the ID and password on the front page for each of these services. Blessings for the Easter season. Ray

GATHERING IN GOD’S NAME

The Setting: Christ Church Mass Dudman

Sentence Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy he has given us a new birth into a living hope through the Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 1:3

HYMN 360 vs 6-8 (10.00am only)

That Eastertide with joy was bright, the sun shone out with fairer light, when to their longing eyes restored the apostles saw their risen Lord. Jesus, the king of gentleness, come now yourself our hearts possess, that we may give you all our days the tribute of our grateful praise.

The priest says

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. Christ is risen. Alleluia. He is risen indeed. Alleluia.

Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

PENITENTIAL RITE Risen Christ, rising in glory, dispel the darkness of our hearts and minds. Silence is kept Lord, like Mary at the empty tomb, we fail to grasp the wonder of your presence. Lord, have mercy. Lord have mercy. Like the disciples behind closed doors, we fear to be seen as your followers. Christ have mercy. Christ have mercy. Like Thomas in the upper room, we are slow to believe and to trust in you. Lord, have mercy. Lord have mercy.

Kyrie eleison sung Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy Christ have mercy, Christ have mercy, Christ have mercy Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy

Glory to God in the highest, and peace to God’s people on earth. Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father, we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory. Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father. Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us. you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

The Collect for Easter Day Almighty God, Whose son Jesus Christ is the resurrection and the life of all who put their trust in him: raise us, we pray, from the death of sin to the life of the righteousness: that we may ever seek the things which are above, where he reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

At the time of choosing an incumbent {we say together} Bountiful God, give to this parish a faithful pastor

who will faithfully speak your word and minister your sacraments;

an encourager who will equip your people for ministry and enable us to fulfil our calling.

Give to those who will choose, wisdom, discernment and patience, and to us give warm and generous hearts,

for Jesus Christ’s sake. Amen.

THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD

A Reading from the Acts of the Apostles. But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them: ‘Men of Judea and all who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to what I say. ‘You that are Israelites, listen to what I have to say: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with deeds of power, wonders, and signs that God did through him among you, as you yourselves know— this man, handed over to you according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of those outside the law. But God raised him up, having freed him from death, because it was impossible for him to be held in its power. For David says concerning him, “I saw the Lord always before me, for he is at my right hand so that I will not be shaken; therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; moreover, my flesh will live in hope. For you will not abandon my soul to Hades, or let your Holy One experience corruption. You have made known to me the ways of life; you will make me full of gladness with your presence.”

‘Fellow Israelites, I may say to you confidently of our ancestor David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. Since he was a prophet, he knew that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would put one of his descendants on his throne. Foreseeing this, David spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, saying, “He was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh experience corruption.” This Jesus God raised up, and of that all of us are witnesses.

Acts 2:14a, 22-32 Reader Hear the word of the Lord ALL Thanks be to God Gospel Acclamation sung ALL Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia! The stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This is the Lord’s doing and marvellous in our eyes. ALL Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia! Reader The Lord be with you ALL And also with you Reader The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew. ALL Glory to you Lord Jesus Christ When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you.’ After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.’ When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.’ But Thomas (who was called the Twin), one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, ‘We have seen the Lord.’ But he said to them, ‘Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe.’ A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you.’ Then he said to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe.’ Thomas answered him, ‘My Lord and my God!’ Jesus said to him, ‘Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.’

Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book. But these are written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name. John 20:19-31 Reader For the Gospel of the Lord ALL Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

HOMILY

Let us together affirm the faith of the Church We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: Was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary And became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. Who has spoken through the Prophets.

10

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

PRAYERS FOR THE WORLD AND THE CHURCH

Let us pray for the world and the Church Let us pray to the Lord, who is our refuge and stronghold. For the health and well-being of our nation, that all who are fearful and anxious may be at peace and free from worry: Lord, hear us, Lord, graciously hear us. For the isolated and housebound, that we may be alert to their needs, and care for them in their vulnerability: Lord, hear us, Lord, graciously hear us. For our homes and families, our schools and young people, and all in any kind of need or distress: Lord, hear us, Lord, graciously hear us. For a blessing on our local community, that our neighbourhoods may be places of trust and friendship, where all are known and cared for: Lord, hear us, Lord, graciously hear us. We commend ourselves, and all for whom we pray, to the mercy and protection of God. Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

THE GREETING OF PEACE We are the body of Christ. His spirit is with us The peace of the Lord And also with you

OFFERTORY HYMN 624 (10.00am only)

Christ be my leader by night as by day; safe through the darkness, for he is the way. Gladly I follow, my future his care, darkness is daylight when Jesus is there. Christ be my teacher in age as in youth, drifting or doubting, for he is the truth. Grant me to trust him, though shifting as sand, doubt cannot daunt me; in Jesus I stand. Christ be my Saviour in calm as in strife; death cannot hold me, for he is the life. Nor darkness nor doubting nor sin and its stain can touch my salvation: with Jesus I reign.

THE EUCHARIST

We now lift up to God the world and the church as we offer prayers and thanksgiving.

The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise.

It is right to praise you, faithful God,

always and everywhere, for with your only begotten Son and life-giving Spirit, you are the one true God from everlasting to everlasting.

12

At the dawn of time you wrought from nothing a universe of beauty and splendour, bringing light from darkness and order from chaos.

You formed us, male and female, in your image,

and endowed us with creative power. We turned away from you but you did not abandon us.

You called us by name and searched us out, making a covenant of mercy, giving the law, teaching justice by the prophets.

And so we praise you,

joining with your faithful people of every time and place, singing the eternal song: sung Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

When the fullness of time was come, you sent your Son to be born of Mary. Bright image of your glory,

he learnt obedience to you in all things, even to death on a cross, breaking the power of evil, freeing us from sin, and putting death to flight.

You raised him from death, exalting him to glory and the new day dawned. On the night he was betrayed your Son Jesus Christ shared food with his friends, his companions on the way. While at the table he took bread, blessed, and broke it, and giving it to them, said: ‘Take, eat; this is my body.’

13

He took a cup of wine, and, giving thanks, he gave it to them, and said, ‘This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many. Do this in remembrance of me. Let us proclaim the mystery of faith Sung Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.

Therefore, living God, as we obey his command,

we remember his life of obedience to you, his suffering and death, his resurrection and exaltation, and his promise to be with us forever. With this bread and this cup we celebrate his saving death until he comes.

Accept, we pray, our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving,

and send your Holy Spirit upon us and our celebration that all who eat and drink at this table may be strengthened by Christ’s body and blood to serve you in the world.

As one body and one holy people, may we proclaim the everlasting gospel of Jesus Christ our Lord, through whom, with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory is yours, eternal God, now and forever.

sung Blessing and honour and glory and power are yours for ever and ever. Amen. As our Saviour Christ has taught us, we are confident to pray,

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.

14

Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen.

THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD AND THE COMMUNION Alleluia! Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us; Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia! The disciples knew the Lord Jesus in the breaking of the bread. The disciples knew the Lord Jesus in the breaking of the bread. The bread which we break, alleluia, is the communion of the body of Christ. The disciples knew the Lord Jesus in the breaking of the bread. We are one body, alleluia, for though many we share one bread. The disciples knew the Lord Jesus in the breaking of the bread. All who wish to come are welcome for this is the table of the Risen Lord. The words of administration are: The body of Christ, the bread of heaven. Amen. The blood of Christ, the cup of salvation. Amen.

THE SENDING OUT OF GOD’S PEOPLE

Living God, make us apostles of the risen Christ. Give us joyful hearts, words of hope, and grace to recognise the Lord Jesus when he meets us, wherever we are on the road.

POST COMMUNION HYMN 382 (10.00am only)

Now the green blade rises from the buried grain, wheat that in the dark earth many days has lain: love lives again, that with the dead has been: Refrain: Love has come again, like wheat that springs up green. In the grave they laid Him, Love whom hate had slain, thinking that he never would awake again, laid in the earth, like grain that sleeps unseen. [Refrain] Up he sprang at Easter, like the risen grain, he who for the three days in the grave had lain, raised from the dead my living Lord is seen: [Refrain]

When our hearts are wintry, Grieving, or in pain, then your touch can call us back to life again - fields of our hearts that dead and bare have been: [Refrain] The Deacon bids the people depart.

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord, alleluia, alleluia! In the name of Christ. Amen. Alleluia, alleluia!
