CHRISTOS ANESTI—-CHRIST IS RISEN!
“For mighty is His love for us, and the truth of the Lord en-dures forever. Today Hades lets out a groan: ‘My sovereigntyis destroyed. I received Him as a mortal, one among the dead;but this One I am powerless to contain; instead with Him I loseall I had governed. I had held the dead for ages, but behold,He resurrects all.’ ” (From Holy Saturday Morning)
The entire Christian confession is contained in the threewords “Christ is Risen”. Saint Paul, referring to this fact, clearly and emphatically states: “If Christ has not beenraised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain.”(1st Corinthians 15:14) This is the reason why, from the be-ginning, the Church of Christ set forth the Resurrection ofHer Lord as the center of her worship.
During the Great and Holy Lent, we begin to see, throughthe services and hymns of the Church, our lives laid out be-fore us. Sometimes, it isn’t a pretty sight. But the seasonof Great Lent provides us with the opportunity to reviewthe slides of our life, tarnished by our living as the ProdigalSon, squandering all that God has given us and continues toprovide us each and every day.
Then comes the glorious entry of our Lord into Jerusalem, remembered on Palm Sunday. We then see, unfolding be-fore our eyes, the events following this glorious entry, Hisultimate betrayal, His humiliation, His punishment, deathand burial.
It would truly be sad if that were the end. But it wasn’t andisn’t! It is just the beginning of a new life that God prom-ises for each and every believer who acknowledges JesusChrist as Lord.
We are reminded of that on Holy Saturday morning as weread the Gospel lesson of the “first Resurrection”. We arereminded that the ladies went to the tomb very early andthey found it empty. They are told that “He is not here, HEIS RISEN, see the place where they laid Him.”
Reliving the events through the life of the Church and itsservices, especially the Holy Week services, we can actually
say that we have seen Christ’s Resurrection. But then, wemust, as the ladies who went to the tomb were told to do,“Go, tell the disciples”.
We can and MUST do the same thing, not merely in wordsbut in all our actions. Others must be able to see, in the waywe live and relate to others, that we actually believe thatChrist’s Resurrection has set us free. They must be able tounderstand, by our lives of example, that we have actuallyseen the Resurrection of our Lord and live our lives in thatfreedom that comes from Him and truly love one anotheras He has loved us by His example.
His Resurrection brought a new reality to the world. It isthe Church’s (we are the church) responsibility and missionto manifest that new reality. No longer the older way, butrather the New Life in HIM, living and loving as though Hehas really set us free…because HE has.
The life of the Church, the evidence of this new reality, isthe care and concern we show to one another. As the greatdoxastikon (hymn) of Pasha proclaims, “Let us embrace oneanother…let us speak to those who hate us…and let us for-give one another.”
The message is universal, not just for us Orthodox Christians, but for all. Therefore, let us extend our care and concern toall. In the Resurrection, we have all have become brothersand sisters. We must embrace all, dialogue with all, and for-give all because “WE HAVE SEEN CHRIST’S RESURRECTON”.
My dear spiritual children in Christ, let the proclamation ofChrist’s resurrection not only flow from your lips, but in-scribe them in your hearts.
May this year’s celebration of His resurrection enlighten youto truly LIVE THE RESURRECTION of this Feast of Feasts andfor the rest of your lives. Glory Be To God!
CHRISTOS ANESTI! ALITHOS ANESTI!
CHRIST IS RISEN! TRULY HE IS RISEN!

CHRISTOS ANESTI!! ALITHOS ANESTI!!CHRIST IS RISEN!! TRULY HE IS RISEN!!
What a joyous message!!! The solemnity of Holy Lent haspassed and we have heard the Good News! The Tomb isempty! Christ is Risen and with His Resurrection He hasbrought hope to us. There is a better place—the Kingdom—and He has prepared a place for us there with Him.
As a child I remember being in awe as our family gatheredaround the table on Easter Sunday and began the festivitieswith the singing of Christos Anesti. All of the adults hadsung in the choir at one time in their lives so it was done in4-part harmony. Oh the joy and happiness! The fast wasover and the feast was about to begin. As an adult the firstsinging of that special hymn each year always puts a lumpin my throat and tears in my eyes. I hope that all of us willkeep hope alive as we “expect the Resurrection of the deadand the life of the ages to come” in His Kingdom. May wecontinue with the good works we began during Holy Lentto improve ourselves and our community.
Speaking of good works there are many people who deservethe thanks of our community. Let me begin by first acknowl-edging the many people who took time out of their busyschedules to attend worship services. Some services hadbetter attendance than others but each of us attendedwhen we could and each time our spirits were uplifted.
Thank you to everyone who came and helped to clean ourchurch in preparation for Pascha. The weather outside wasdreary but those inside paid it no heed. They scrubbed andpolished every surface they could reach until it shone.
During Holy Week we had many people who worked to makethe week special. Fr. Andrew’s attention to detail and his de-votion to our parish is evident every day. Our chanters MarkAdam, Jason Cote and Nola Kalantzis along with our choirunder the direction of Cathy Moufarge helped Fr. Andrew toprovide us with uplifting worshipful services. Our Altar Boysfollowed Fr. Andrew’s direction and were right on the mark.
Your Board of Directors followed the schedule that they setfor themselves to not only be present for worship servicesbut to do everything in their power to make certain thateverything went off without a hitch. I am constantly amazedat all the behind the scenes work that needs to be done.
The ladies of the Anagennesis sold tsourekia (saving manyus from the task of baking our own) and wrapped the Eastereggs that you brought to church for distribution after theResurrection Service and the Service of Agape. They spear-headed the effort to decorate the Kouvouklio and thechurch for Good Friday and the Resurrection Service. YOU
provided the funds for the decorations through your gener-ous donations. It was heartwarming to see so many youngpeople helping and learning.
The GOYANS came Friday afternoon and took care of workin the Narthex so that Board Members could assist parish-ioners. They returned on Sunday morning to assist in prepa-rations for the Easter Egg Hunt. They are always ready, willing and able to help.
We have a dedicated group of women who work way behindthe scenes at home baking Prosfora and then bringing themto church—and they do this year round. Many women alsogather to make koulourakia and tiropetes for Coffee Hours.
Our Second Annual Pot Luck Dinner was a success becausepeople shared the delicious food they had prepared athome. Those who aren’t in to cooking knew exactly whatelse to bring to add to the table. Everyone shared. It waswonderful to break the fast together. These are all perfectexamples of people sharing their time and talents as a partof our Stewardship Program. We can’t all of us do every-thing but each of us can do something to contribute to ourcommunity. Our parish is blessed because of everythingthat you did to make this holy season so special and every-thing that you do to make all of our efforts a success.
On Saturday, May 3 we will have a Community Cleanup Dayto spruce up the outside of our facilities. Bring yourbrooms, your rakes and your shovels and we’ll get busycleaning and spreading mulch. Can’t work outside? Per-haps you can help to prepare lunch. We will begin at 9 a.m.and hope to have the project completed by 1 p.m. All ofyour Youth Groups have been invited to help but they willneed some adult helpers. I hope to see many of you there.
Soon we will begin cooking for Glendi and making all thenecessary preparations for a successful festival weekend. There will be plenty of opportunities for all of us to help. Please don’t wait to be asked individually. Volunteer to dothat which you can do best!
I would like to thank everyone who has completed and re-turned their Stewardship Form. Together we can makethis work and it is working!! Haven’t returned it yet? It’snot too late.
The month of May will be a busy one for us. The Ahepanswill hold their annual spring breakfast on May 4 which willbe followed by the First General Assembly of 2014. May 11the Board of Directors will provide the Mother’s Day Lunch-eon. May 18 is the end-of-the-year program for the SundaySchool. On May 26 Fr. Andrew will be at Pine Grove Ceme-tery for the Memorial Day Prayers.
Wishing you all a joyous spring!!Nikki Moutsioulis

STEwARdSHIP UPdATEI'd like to thank all of our parishioners who have pledgedtheir support of our stewardship program. As we close outour initial phase of the program, I am please and warmedby the number of pledges and the amount pledged. To date,188 families have pledged $72,677.00 We are ahead of lastyear's dues program at this time, yet well below the expec-tation of the number of parishioners we believe to havewithin our community. As I've communicated in the past, the goal this year is to become more transparent with ourfinances, to restore the faith in our leadership, to raise thenecessary funding to operate our facility in a responsiblemanner and finally to build an accurate data base of the realnumber of congregants we have. Once we have a real num-ber of parishioners, it is only then can we plan and forecastresponsibly. To this end, I am asking each and every parish-ioner to compete a pledge form soon as we embark uponthe outreach phase of our stewardship program. It CAN be done!
My best,Greg TimbasStewardship Chairman

SUNdAY SCHOOLDear St. George Community, The snow has finally melted andit is beginning to feel like springtime. I can see tiny buds onthe trees, the grass is getting greener and the tulips havebroken through. Pretty soon there will be color in the gardenagain. My son Athan came home with a craft project frompreschool describing the colors and what God did for us andwhat He gave to us. “Red is for the blood He gave. Green isfor the grass He made. Yellow is for the sun so bright. Orangeis for the edge of night. Black is for the sins we made. Whiteis for the grace He gave. Purple is for His hour of sorrow. Pinkis for our new tomorrow.” God gave us many gifts, includingour precious children. I hope you will join us on May 18 tocelebrate the achievements of our Sunday school children. The Sunday school students have been very busy this year.Especially the past few weeks with Lent, Easter and prepar-ing their class prayers for the end of the year program. TheSunday school is still collecting new and gently used booksfor babies, children and young adults. The books will be do-nated to the Easter Seals Development Center in Manchesterand to Penelopeʼs Place in Brockton, MA. The book drive isopen to the entire St. George community. The books can bedropped off in Sunday school or in the drop off box in the
lobby of the community center. With the communityʼs helpwe can make this book drive a huge success!Sincerely,Athena Moutsioulis Bevan
